Ronnie Barker, Richard Beckinsale, Fulton Mackay etc were superb actors. Sadly missed. My favourite ever sitcom Porridge the episode with the map is just classic with two comedy greats in Ronnie Barker and David Jason.
January 12, 20188 yr I'm a latecomer to Peaky Blinders really enjoying it but Sam Neill's Northern Irish accent is off putting. He's a good actor but it happens all the time going back to Dick Van Dyke why not get an actor who is from the area or can do the accent. Can't remember the woman's name but she was in the first series of Luther she had an appalling Cockney accent. Mickey Rourke in a film called A Prayer for the Dying another awful Northern Irish accent. Edited January 12, 20188 yr by bluehaze
January 12, 20188 yr Do y'all get 'Shameless' over there in England? Its on Showtime in the US, and it is hilarious, about a family of misfits, to say the least!

For some reason it really unreasonably annoys me that they feel the need to reshoot British shows, sometimes pretty much word for word, in the US rather than just show the original! I remember they tried it with the IT Crowd and it was just dreadful. Imagine if we did it with all the stuff we import from there!
January 14, 20188 yr The it crowd remake was a disgrace, just garbage. Even worse though Was The remake of the great film Get Carter, Sylvester f**king Stallone...
January 14, 20188 yr Started watching Hap and Leonard last night, really enjoyable so far and well worth a watch.
January 21, 20188 yr I don't think Godless has been mentioned yet. It's a Western on Netflix, lots of horses, atmospheric scenery, and people murdering each other. It's really good.

I'm from the U.S and I can say that they tried to remake the British show Skins and it was just awful. They didn't even make it past season one. The British version was 10x better.
February 6, 20188 yr Currently watching the history channels scripted show Vikings. It's based off the historical viking Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. It's got everything you want in a TV show. Drama, blood, some historical facts, love, treachery, etc. 10/10 recommend.

I honestly don’t know why you bother, most of your actors are British anyway
February 7, 20188 yr The Wire. I know I am about 15 years late to this one but I am currently on season 3 and loving it.
February 15, 20188 yr Found the 1980s mini series of Bodyline on YouTube. About the controversial Ashes tour of 1932/33 with Jardine,Larwood and Bradman the protagonists. Video quality is slightly lacking as vhs the original source, good account of what was a very controversial tour at the time.
February 16, 20188 yr So, I've just started my Amazon Prime free trial, and I'm struggling to find something that I will enjoy. Anyone got any recommendations? For guidance, The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Spiral, things like that I have loved in the past. Game of Thrones, Spartacus and things like that I really didn't like. Thriller films, preferably with some comedic element are good, gross out American comedy films are probably aimed at a younger audience than me. Help!
February 16, 20188 yr I don't think Amazon Prime's all that great for TV, they have some good stuff like Mr Robot and American Gods but they're a bit different to the stuff you typically like. I've not seen The Bureau yet (French political/spy thing) but it has been getting rave reviews and has been on my to-watch list for ages, so if you like Spiral it might be worth checking out.

Sneaky Pete, vikings, Mr robot, American gods, the expanse (if you like science fiction, but gritty, not star trek etc), the man in the high castle, hap and Leonard (my favourite show I've watched in ages), red oaks (a sort of ode to 80's teen angst films, better than I made it sound.)

You don't like Game of Thrones or Spartacus. You, @yorkleyblue who for so many years now have headed my Shedenders to fantasize about list! And now you confess to being unmoved by the charms of Tyrion and Gannicus. Alas and alack , how are the mighty fallen. Try Vikings - Floki is a delightful character. There is a New Zealand series called Top of The Lake, which stars Elisabeth Moss ( Madmen and The Handmaid's Tale). It also has Peter Mullan in it, which is always a plus. Now I have a serious problem. Who on earth is going to take your place at the top of my list? Edited February 16, 20188 yr by moi Typo, as usual

Alas and alack , how are the mighty fallen. I loved Spartacus as having had psychic experiences and several bone crunching experiences in my life, I could relate quite well. Thought the characters like Gannicus, Crixus and Oenimaeus were neat too and reminded me of chats with my friends about current affairs who all said I was a nutcase are now saying 10 years later that they think I might be right. BTW from a recent history program on Rome by Bettany Hughes they were saying it was not just slaves fighting alongside Spartacus yet also poor Romans too. Game of Thrones was interesting not as violent as Spartacus though the power and intrigue was good as were the characters like Tyrone Lannister and the young princess played by Maisie..... Again with G.O.T there are analogies with modern day politics, the fall of Labour, the rise of UKIP, the fall of the Lib Dems, the fall of UKIP, the Rise of the Tories, the rise of Labour and the next stage might be the fall of the Tories............ I'm at least a series behind on the G.O.T for various reasons. I caught the new X-files and was not overly impressed yet will give it a bit longer before I make a judgment.
