Finished it already. Had some reservations before watching it but it turned out really good just like with Last Of Us. Going to binge watch either Alex Rider or Parasyte: The Grey this weekend.

It’s quality Fallout 4 is getting an update, didn’t know about that! Started watching the series last night and you’re right, it’s decent! A bit woke and corny in places but was to be expected!

May 12, 20242 yr Four episodes of Hancock's Half Hour on BBC 4. Tony Hancock was a fine comedian but a troubled man and sadly fell out with a number of people including Sid James. Hancock's Half Hour was written by those brilliant comedy writers Galton and Simpson.. Hancock's Half Hour; The Goons and the partnership of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore are, in my view, brilliant and paved the way for other British comedies. Edited May 12, 20242 yr by Boyne

Committed suicide in Australia after trying and failing to resurrect his career as the "Hancock" character but without those who were fundamental to the character's success. Which is to say Galton and Simpson. HHH is on almost constant repeat on R4Extra. Ground-breaking writing by G&S for a great cast. It was the first radio character-led "sitcom". Prior to HHH, radio comedy was essentially variety, comedy interspersed with music. Even the brilliant Goons followed the variety format with Max Geldray et al popping up.

Also between him and Andree Melly. Some great programmes on R4Extra: The Navy Lark; Round the Horne and of course The Goons. For me The Goons is one of the finest comedies ever made. Four great comedians if you include Michael Bentine who was in the line-up at the start. Milligan was a genius. I rate him alongside Peter Cook for their contributions to comedy. Would we have Monty Python without The Goons and the Q series?

Would we have Monty Python without The Goons and the Q series? Milligan was the ultimate tortured genius. So many issues, mostly the after-effects of his experiences during the war, later developing into manic depression. These days he would have been diagnosed with PTSD. His books - Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall, Puckoon, etc - are extraordinary. Huge influence on Python, opening their eyes to, amongst other things, the fact that comedy rules were made to be broken. Python would have happened regardless, they were too talented not to happen, but it would have been fascinating to see what form they took. HHH's Sunday Afternoon At Home remains one of the greatest radio comedy half hours, extraordinary for its time. A half hour in which nothing seems to happen but, in fact, under the surface, a lot happens. Galton and Simpson's finest achievement, I reckon.

Really spot on, even down to her manorisms. Do wonder if Netflix will catch some heat regardless of if they are deemed to have made it clear about any fictional elements or not. She's clearly someone with some issues and the fact its got to the point of her getting interviewed by Morgan indicates Netflix have dropped the ball on protecting her and her mental health.

Suffered very serious bouts of depression. Must have been horrible. A very talented performer. I've read some of his books; great reads. I wonder if his comedy would have been different if he had had fewer issues. You're right about Python. Would have happened but were shaped by The Goons. I remember Michael Palin saying he was an avid listener to the Goons. Just be Python you had At Last the 1948 Show which had two future Pythons and gave us the Four Yorkshiremen sketch. Brilliant sketch. Yes, Sunday Afternoon At Home is brilliant. I often prefer radio to TV comedy as like drama and reading a good book leaves so much to the listener's imagination. There have been some comedies that have made the transition from radio to TV but others that have failed. I liked Count Arthur Strong when it was on the radio. Don't think it came over well on television.
