October 7, 201510 yr I know and the fact he was happy to play second fiddle and take his £100k pw shows exactly what stage of his career he is at. Perhaps he might just prove his worth if we progress in the CL but I honestly would have preferred us to go into this season with Bamford as our 3rd striker. But then counter argument is that Bamford can't get minutes at Palace ahead of strikers who Pardew was willing to let leave during the summer. I'm fairly sure deals for Gayle and Campbell fell through at the last minute. So if Pardew doesn't think he's ready for Premier League minutes at Palace I don't think he would be getting a sniff at Chelsea. To be fair to Falcao if money was the most important thing to him right now he could have just gone back to Monaco but he halved his earnings to push through a deal to play for us, that's got to show some sense of ambition? But it is just a loan and I don't think he'll stay beyond this season, I wouldn't be surprised if we're already eyeing someone up for next season. Here's a question though, if Dom Solanke has a better season for Vitesse than Bamford does for Palace, does he push himself ahead of Bamford in possibly being 3rd choice next year?

More than possible. Bamford appeared more ready this season after a decent season at Borough and has 4 years on both Solanke & Izzie Brown, but both of those could leap-frog over him in the pecking order, especially if he rots at Palace. Bamford's spell at Palace to date is frustrating. Pardew is building something there and right now they are a better side than us!! Why would he risk a young loanee unless he was something truly exceptional when he has his own players? I'm not totally convinced Bamford IS the answer and none of our youngsters may be. But I would still rather see them given a chance when they are hungry with something to prove, than a player like Falcao whose best seasons are clearly behind him and he ain't gonna get any better.

Of all the posters on here Nibs I'm sure you'll like this comparison more than most. Right now, doesn't Bamford's loan have a familiar feel to it that McEachran's loan to Swansea did? Our most promising youth prospect goes to a club playing good football under a good British coach. There's an optimism to the loan because why would they take them if they didn't intend on using them to their full potential? Then suddenly its six month of the lads development wasted and it ends up heavily impacting on their career.
October 7, 201510 yr Comes back to the question of who else was available and willing to play second fiddle to Costa? United ended up having to spend potentially up to £68m for Martial. Well that's it isn't it? It's who is available and who would be willing to be back up. I do think Charlie Austin was well worth a punt though.
October 7, 201510 yr Well that's it isn't it? It's who is available and who would be willing to be back up. I do think Charlie Austin was well worth a punt though. Austin was available for just £15m but all the Premier League clubs stayed away from him. Leicester had a £12m bid rejected but refused to go any higher. I reckon there's a reason so many clubs are reluctant to go in for him personally. ....But I also don't think he's suited to Chelsea.
October 7, 201510 yr Same excuses as we heard for Torres The mans a dud, an overpaid past it player. It's a shame but most of us saw it coming. Nice bloke but needs to go in the summer Edited October 7, 201510 yr by Chelsbear

October 20, 201510 yr Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Radamel Falcao has to "give more" than fellow striker Diego Costa if he is to become a regular starter in his team. Falcao has made just one Premier League and one League Cup start since joining the Blues on loan from Monaco in July. The Colombia international, 29, is again set to miss out in Tuesday's Champions League Group G game against Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine. "I always go for the performance level. The best one plays," said Mourinho. "He has to give us more than Diego because we normally play with one striker." The Portuguese also dismissed reports that suggested Falcao, who spent last season on loan at Manchester United, could quit Stamford Bridge in January after failing to make an impact.

It's such a nothing quote really isn't it. Basically Jose is saying unless he can play better than Diego (which he can't) then he'll have to be content playing 2nd fiddle which is pretty much why we bought him in.
October 20, 201510 yr I like him but he's too lightweight and doesn't assert himself in the game. I think he'll be gone.

We didn't buy him, he's on loan. Not that it matters when I keep forgetting he's with us at all.
October 20, 201510 yr We didn't buy him, he's on loan. Not that it matters when I keep forgetting he's with us at all. I think that's the point Jose is making. He's here on loan, he's not going to start ahead of a player that belongs to us unless he performs so well we can't possibly leave him out. Personally I think the loan is a stop gap because we already have someone lined up for next summer.

October 20, 201510 yr I hope he does go in Jan. Been a dreadful signing and there are no excuses he simply isn't a good player anymore.
October 20, 201510 yr WHO???!!! Could be that we were planning on bringing Bamford or Solanke into the squad depending on the success of their loans in top flight teams this season. Or I think more likely, it's a client of Jorge Mendes, we took Falcao on loan for the year to make up the numbers for us and to keep him in the shop window and in return we get first run at one of Medes bigger clients, possibly Griezmann from Atletico or someone of similar stature.

Our pattern in signing strikers is so pathetic, that I'm already trying to figure out which washed up player will be our next failure.

It won't be Bamford given he cannot get games at Palace. We should have kept Bamford/Solanke instead of wasting money on Falcao. He makes Torres look good. I just wish he would prove me wrong as i want everyone in a Chelsea shirt to be world class etc etc

October 20, 201510 yr Can't see remy or falcao being here next season. We've been linked with icardi a bit over the last 18 months, but apart from that, anyone would be a bit left field. Maybe solanke or bamford will get the 3rd slot.

October 23, 201510 yr I hope he does leave in January, Loan should be terminated and a spade called a spade. Not up to it.
