February 17, 201610 yr There's no way the second leg will finish 1-0. There will be goals in it which potentially makes it harder for us given the away goals.
February 17, 201610 yr There's no way the second leg will finish 1-0. There will be goals in it which potentially makes it harder for us given the away goals. I really think we can keep a clean sheet at the Bridge-Yes we did concede twice but they hardly ripped us apart and we were missing our 2 main CB's Hopefully Terry will be fit for the 2nd leg and I can see us getting a 1-0 or 2-0 win
February 17, 201610 yr We're going to need at least a two goal cushion - even then, I can't see us keeping a clean sheet.
February 17, 201610 yr I think the City game will be huge for us-If we can get a result alongside a clean sheet I can see us taking that momentum into our game against PSG but if we lose against City I can see everything going up in smoke
February 17, 201610 yr Rabiot is only 20 years old but has made nearly 100 appearances already for PSG. He's much further along in his development than any of our equivalent youngsters. Plus he's having to compete in a quality midfield and a larger squad. Sure. But whose fault is it that Traore, RLC and/or Kenedy have hardly seen any playing time? Where would they be if Mourinho and now Hiddink gave them their fair share of games? They can only be in the same place as Rabiot if they are actually afforded opportunities, not given gametime solely because of injuries to first team players. I'm actually very impressed that despite the quality high-end purchases at PSG they still find the opportunity for youth prospects to play for the first team (Rabiot, Kimpembe, Augustin, Ongenda all get a decent run-out). Also the Ligue 1 is weak argument is weak given our season. We've been playing terrible all season (better lately but still) and despite fans clamoring for giving youth a chance Mourinho and Hiddink continue playing same old, same old and won't even let the youth try to make a change for 30+ minutes. There were loads of dropped opportunities to give all of our youth a decent runout. Edited February 17, 201610 yr by Jon Stakes
February 17, 201610 yr I thought Baba played really well, and that allowed Azpi to continue to boss the game from the right - this should definitely be our wing-back setup for the rest of the season. Pedro also really impressed me more than he has in any other game since his debut. On a more unfortunate note: the amount of hate thrown at Mikel for his mistake on this thread and in this forum is honestly shocking. He's a Chelsea man through and through and has performed brilliantly since Matic has dropped the ball. He's been one of our best players this season - and I absolutely loved the poetic justice his goal provided - he stepped up and took it really well for someone who rarely scores. Someone on here was calling him a 'useless c*nt who's been a liability his entire career' or something along those lines - even in the heat of the moment, how you can talk about one of our players, who's been at the club for so long, given everything and won everything is beyond me. Some people really need some perspective. I can see us beating this PSG side - we'll need a stroke of luck and ideally a clean sheet, but its' doable. UTC Mikel's a weird one. Been here years, will be the most senior player in the squad when JT leaves and whilst there's a jokey factor about his goalscoring exploits, the crowd as a whole have never really taken to him. So when he bottles his job in the wall, people will express dissatisfaction with him. I also think some might take umbrage with you saying he's given everything when that's something we say about JT as well. Not saying he isn't a good player but usually after playing 350-odd games and being at a club for almost a decade you're given a certain status but I don't think he has been. Maybe he's just under-appreciated which means some people over-appreciate him. It's very strange and that probably adds to his mystique.

Im sure we'd play more youth players if we could walk the domestic league. Fact is we can't, no team can and in that regard PSG are very lucky.

PSG don't have the pressures we have so it's easier to take a punt because even if those players lose you 5% of what you're capable of, you're still 30-40% better than your rivals. In the Premier League, every detail matters.
February 17, 201610 yr Also would like to give a shout out for that 5 minute or so passage of play towards the end of the first half where our passing was so crisp and accurate under extreme pressing from them I thought we were going to win comfortably.
February 17, 201610 yr All in all, in relative context, I thought it was a very good performance. We created enough to win it, enjoyed some dominant spells of the game and on the most part defended very well with a second choice pairing at centre back. A couple of sloppy moments (and a cruel deflection) cost us but overall I thought we played well. Promising performances from Baba and Pedro with Willian one again showing why he a dead cert for player of the season. Result is ok. Not as good as the pundits seemed to suggest- I think it will be a tall order back at the Bridge purely because I do think PSG will score, which obviously means we need 2 to stay alive. I could see it being very close and going a similar way of the last two clashes...... extra time and away goals etc. I just hope we go for it, I think we showed last night we have got the beating of them in us. Really hope we create a proper atmosphere back at the Bridge for this one similar to the likes of Napoli in 2012; I think we will need every little advantage we can create... this is going to be very close I feel.
February 17, 201610 yr Overall a good match from Chelsea, just unfortunate goals allowed. Courtois should have been quicker off his line when the chip pass was played in, Cavani should not have had a chance. I really hope Hiddink now fully understands that Fabregas MUST play in the deep midfield and not at #10. His passing from depth positions is what make us dangerous. Pedro and Willian should also be locked in to the starting 11 going forward which should leave Hazard over Oscar at the #10 or left. I think Hazard should start in the #10 position from now on and leave Willian and Pedro to to the hard running down the lines.

They have no competition at all in that league so can afford to play one or two youth players and still easily walk a game.
February 17, 201610 yr Anyone else hear more about this? Pretty harsh treatment for just celebrating a goal
February 17, 201610 yr I think the City game will be huge for us-If we can get a result alongside a clean sheet I can see us taking that momentum into our game against PSG but if we lose against City I can see everything going up in smoke We'll have 17 days and 3 more games between City and PSG games.

February 17, 201610 yr Tear gas But did he actually use it on anyone? All I could see was him waving it around in a threatening manner to silence the celebrations.
February 17, 201610 yr But did he actually use it on anyone? All I could see was him waving it around in a threatening manner to silence the celebrations. I don't think so. But he shouldn't have to threaten happy - calm people
February 17, 201610 yr But did he actually use it on anyone? All I could see was him waving it around in a threatening manner to silence the celebrations. To me that question is totally irrelevant, why threaten fans that are only celebrating a goal - even if there is a bit of gesturing at the rival fans. It's football, it's a passionate game. The police right across Europe have always had the nastiest and most untouchable mob going.

February 17, 201610 yr Personally felt both Costa and Hazard had stinkers. Hazard would have been in the top 10 players in the world last year but the fall has been dramatic. I really hope he picks up. Also, on another note, till last year I had Courtois and De Gea on par. Courtois is nowhere close to him this year. Maybe the injury. His girlfriend had a baby earlier this season. Practically all new parents are distracted, stressed, and have their sleep screwed up. Or maybe the lack of competition with Cech gone has caused complacency? Thibaut wasn't so great before the injury either. At the same time, his form hasn't been any worse than the team in general. Maybe even above average. Manchester United has underperformed too but not nearly as much. If they were the mess that Chelsea has been, you might see de Gea underperform too.
