February 29, 201610 yr Benzema has considerably more pace than Costa who is pretty slow. I don’ think he’d do much better than Costa here though, always thought he was a bit overrated myself. Yes, he can run, when he wants. He hasn't got any blood, lacks intensity in his play and he is totally overrated. Look at the opinions of the R. Madrid supporters in their forum (in Spanish): http://fororealmadrid.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=12810&start=38580 They are really angry at him and would be happy to see him go. Benzefail, Benzemeow and other nick names.
February 29, 201610 yr Costa is not a natural finisher, well I just don't think so anyway. I look at Longs goal at the weekend, poor mistake by Baba but the finish was quality. Players like Aguero and Cavani have it. Costa is more of 6 yard box finisher to me but what's really frustrating is he spends most of the match not being there. Costa is a natural finisher, because he is at the right place at the right time ( isn't that suppose to naturally be a striker's instinct) does mean he isn't effective outside the box. You forget he once played behind Falcao at AM. Your logic faults players like Inzaghi, Crespo, Nistelrooy, Shevchenko et al because they were players in similar mould.

February 29, 201610 yr Scoring from 6 yards out is no bad thing and I'm not slating that. I would actually regard Crespo and Sheva as natural finishers. A natural finisher is like using Long as an example at the weekend. 1 chance 1 goal. I couldn't see Costa doing that or maybe I could but the out of 10 chances it would be low. My logic doesn't fault because the amount of times Costa goes onto the left, falls over his feet or has the touch of Mr Bean is stupid. He is a fighter and defiantly when Mourinho was there it was like he was scared of the 6 yard box.
February 29, 201610 yr Most of Ruud v. Nistelrooy's goals were tapped in from 6 yards out or poached. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't believe Cavani is a natural finisher & certainly wouldnt put him in the bracket of Aguero Bringing in Cavani for Costa-I just don't see it as an upgrade
February 29, 201610 yr I don't believe Cavani is a natural finisher & certainly wouldnt put him in the bracket of Aguero Bringing in Cavani for Costa-I just don't see it as an upgrade The hype around Cavani seems to have diminished a lot since he went to psg.
February 29, 201610 yr The hype around Cavani seems to have diminished a lot since he went to psg. Probably because he either plays on the wing of doesn't play
February 29, 201610 yr I think costa is a natural goalscorer but he does lack a little finesse or composure at times, and he can be really clumsy with the ball at his feet. Really like benzema, I don't think his career has been helped by playing alongside ronaldo, and I think he would find another level if he came to the prem, but id be wary of replacing costa for benzema, as costa has proved himself on the prem already, and he is capable dragging us into back into games, which I'm not sure benzema has in his locker. It would nice to have them both if we played 2 up top more often, as I think it would be a very good partnership.
February 29, 201610 yr Costa is an excellent player and a great finisher. I agree he is not a finisher like Henry or Messi but he will score you goals as we all bloody well know. We are spoiled having these two in our ranks.
February 29, 201610 yr Hope we stay far away from Benzema. The Valbuena mess shows that he's willing to sacrifice his teammates in the worst ways for money. Under Guus the dressing room has become a supportive place. Benzema would willingly poison that if he can make some profit. The only reason it's not been a huge deal at Madrid is that the club culture is so dysfunctional and nasty already. Costa, if managed effectively, is an invaluable member of the team due to his drive and never give up attitude. Van Gaal would say he's the epitome of horny haha
February 29, 201610 yr Costa has gotten better with age, he's not lightening quick but he's fast enough as a striker. There aren't many Aguero/Suarez type strikers out there, and if we were going to get someone I'd go all out for Lewandowski now Guardiola has left Bayern, but that's not going to happen. February 29, 201610 yr Did anyone hear that Jose tried to sell Costa last year? Sure that makes complete sense. Sell a guy because of whom you won the league in his first year at the club. As I said, complete sense. Edited February 29, 201610 yr by JoseBlues
February 29, 201610 yr Did anyone hear that Jose tried to sell Costa last year? What part of last year?
February 29, 201610 yr Sure that makes complete sense. Sell a guy because of whom you won the league in his first year at the club. As I said, complete sense. Sell a guy who plays for a mid table team lol. Just someone told me they heard Shearer say it on telly and Costa knew of it. Costa did turn up late from a break the whole squad had in the last season and came back overweight to pre-season. Costa wasn't exactly playing well and spent most of his time of the left wing while watching crosses going into the box, his attitude was actually pretty dam poor while Jose was there.

Well, so have the rest of the squad especially Hazard. Tough to infer from that if Jose wanted to sell him. We finally got a replacement for Drogba who banged in crucial goals for us on the way to the title. Why in hell would we even think of selling him?He came back overweight and complacent. Doubt because he knew Jose wanted to sell him. Even Jose would not be that trigger happy to sell him based on pre season. Edited February 29, 201610 yr by JoseBlues
February 29, 201610 yr I ment pre season Doubt it very much-Knowing Mourinho he would have brought in a replacement before actually selling Costa No Manager would risk selling their main striker last minute without having a viable 2nd option
February 29, 201610 yr Doubt it very much-Knowing Mourinho he would have brought in a replacement before actually selling Costa No Manager would risk selling their main striker last minute without having a viable 2nd option You got the whole of pre season, there's no last minute. It's only what Shearer said. I don't know when in pre-season, why or if Mourinho did but if Mourinho did the club obviously didn't want too.

No but coming back overweight shows the attitude of Costa and maybe some of the other players, too relaxed.
February 29, 201610 yr No but coming back overweight shows the attitude of Costa and maybe some of the other players, too relaxed.Agree about the attitude bit. Even when we won the title last year, Jose warned about complacency and seeing his entire squad pig out on holiday pies must have really flipped him. Guess he tried to whip them into shape but by then we were already on our downward spiral and Jose doesnt handle failure well.

Should of signed some new players whoevers fault that was but no one could be prepared for how poor some of those Chelsea players was playing, never seen anything like it.
February 29, 201610 yr For all the Benzama fans, don't forget his legal issues. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3305027/Real-Madrid-star-Karim-Benzema-admits-role-blackmailing-French-international-team-mate-Mathieu-Valbuena-sex-tape-claims-forced-it.html http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a4e8d293cc6d461aa12658829e338b57/apnewsbreak-benzema-faces-possible-charges-sex-tape-case
March 1, 201610 yr I don't think Benzema would be that great in the Premiership personally, Costa is well suited especially with the style of football we play. I'd love us to find another Jimmy Floyd or Drogba though.
