Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas

Featured Replies

A natural finisher is like using Long as an example at the weekend. 1 chance 1 goal. I couldn't see Costa doing that or maybe I could but the out of 10 chances it would be low.

Fairly sure Costa had the best shots to goals conversion % in the league last season.

To expand, taken from The Guardians team of the season review:

If Agüero’s goals meant little in the grand scheme of things, Diego Costa’s were absolutely vital. The former Atlético Madrid striker settled into life in England in some style. Despite injuries and suspensions limiting him to a 26-game season, the Spain international notched his 20th league goal on the final day as Chelsea ran away with the title. With just 2.9 shots per game, Costa’s conversion rate of 26.3% was nothing short of exceptional.

And pinched from elsewhere stats on conversion rates minus penalties.

Costa had a great season and went through a hot streak but now defenders know his game and his goals have dried up.

I’d take Aguero in a heartbeat over him, far superior player.

The hot streak has returned with Guus stearing the ship

I think the most important thing was his fitness getting back to it's proper level. The guy turned up overweight and looked gassed in so many matches at the start of the season but apparently started doing two-a-days towards the end of Jose's time here.

After that he started making those dangerous runs. That changed the way the whole team could play and whilst it's a disgrace that he came back like that (something he's taken full responsibility for) his response has been great.

Have you been watching our games recently?

Cesc has looked great to be honest and moving forward if Conte is hired I believe he will be the focal point of our team.  Costa likely will stay as there is no better option that will likely come to us.  Not to mention Costa has been superb recently and shows no signs of slagging off.

I may be in the minority but I respect the way Costa plays the game.  He is a catalyst for this team.  Look no further than last weekend.  After getting the yellow and doing dirty work, our team was more inspired.  We responded with two goals to win.  There are little things in Costa's game that go unnoticed.

I can see why other teams absolutely loathe him though.  I'm happy he is blue

I'd go as far as to say Costa is unique. For all his faults, nobody picks up a game by the scruff of the neck like he does. What he lacks in sprinting speed he makes up for with quick thinking.

Doubt it very much-Knowing Mourinho he would have brought in a replacement before actually selling Costa

No Manager would risk selling their main striker last minute without having a viable 2nd option

If Jose wanted Costa gone, he would have found a way, or he would have totally isolated and ostracized Costa, so I have difficulty believing that he seriously sought to sell Costa.

Perhaps Jose was upset and made a frustrated rant like, "Damn it, Costa couldn't even do 50 push ups today. I wish I could auction him on ebay!" and that got taken at face value.

Just speculating. You know how the press loves to take things out of context.

Right now, there's a clear hierarchy when it comes to forwards. Messi and Ronaldo top the list, followed by Bale, Neymar, Suarez, Lewandowski and Aguero.

The problem with selling Costa and buying any of Benzema, Cavani, Higuain etc is that it's robbing Peter to pay Paul. Not quite in that top 6, they all offer little tweaks to our team- Cavani adds pace and serial threat, but goes missing frequently. Higuain is a bit quicker but lacks fight. Benzema is great all round but often is lazy. Each one has advantages and disadvantages over another but ultimately it's a sideways step.

Personally, we should be looking at making a serious play for either Bale or Lewandowski, but that's a discussion for elsewhere.

Have you seen what it did to our players and especially Costa now that Papa-Guus is at the helm. He doesn't do anything he doesn't need to.

In general we are not giving the refs any chances to send our lads off.

  • 2 weeks later...

sell him to Barcelona for 80 mill. there he will find a friend who has the same hobby.

And replace him with who exactly? Because it has been really easy for us to replace Drogba. As much as I hate his antics, I would much rather have him in the side than a saint.

^ Would take £80m and run if we were offered that amount, issue is we are not likely to get even half of that. 10 yellows for any player in one season is ridiculous talkless of a CF. Once he started getting stuck in yesterday, I knew it was only a matter of time and you can't have that.

I wouldn't sell him just yet but I reckon he needs top competition. Problem with that is we have Traore waiting to make a step up, bringing in an Higuain for example will be detrimental to his development but Costa needs that.

For all his faults, nobody picks up a game by the scruff of the neck like he does.

His attitude is frustrating. He should focus on his football instead of the constant bs of acting like a dick. It is all rosy when he acts like a douche and scores goals, but when his goals dry up he comes across unprofessional.
