June 27, 201610 yr I just don't get it. We had a formation, we had a style of football, we had everything set in place to have a decent tournament. Why ditch all of that for out of form players, why ditch that for one player who's legs have all but gone ? It's just unbelievable how we do this in every single damn tournament, it's unbelievable that we never frigging learn. People were calling it before the tournament started, i was one of them. We shoehorned Rooney in, nobody can deny it. He was bought in because he is Rooney, simple as that. Hodgson and the team ditched everything we had just to shoehorn that one player in. Absolutely pathetic and i am fed up with it. Are you on a commission for saying shoehorn in every post Scott?
June 27, 201610 yr The FA want someone who'll toe the line. Capello was sacked because he wouldn't go with the FA and drop Terry (England would then be knocked out because Uruguay didn't do the same and Suarez scored a vital goal). Woy at one point basically picked any English player who'd put on a Liverpool shirt, regardless of form and that reeked of interference. The FA won't hire someone who would be his own man. Hence Cloughy never got the call despite being the candidate everyone wanted
June 27, 201610 yr Are you on a commission for saying shoehorn in every post Scott? I like to shoehorn it in every now and then.
June 27, 201610 yr Thing is the first three games gives me hope. Say I'm mad if you will but it does. Some things definitely have to change, Rooney goes for starters and Hart is not the best keeper in Manchester let alone England. And the search for a solid centre-back pairing that compliment each other's game goes on. But this is a young team with talent most of them demonstrate everyweek in the EPL. We need a world class manager that comes in with swagger and a plan and makes them believe in themselves in pressure situations. Much the way Jose did for our boys in 05/06.
June 27, 201610 yr He wasn't even bad. Did you watch the game ? he was at fault for their winner. He was also at fault for Wales goal.
June 27, 201610 yr Are you on a commission for saying shoehorn in every post Scott? Sorry, i'm just too pissed off, my choice of words are a bit limited right now Edited June 27, 201610 yr by Scott Harris
June 27, 201610 yr What I don't get is the obsession with strikers from Roy, we had four strikers on at the end, how about we bring on players to offer service? Maybe Barkley or Lallana.
June 27, 201610 yr A lot of people are saying Hoddle again.......jeez. Do people forget when he last managed a football team ? it was 10 years ago in the Championship. This guy is another F.A yes man, he's no different than what we keep going for.
June 27, 201610 yr Come to think of it, how big an upset was this really? An upset for sure, but one of the biggest in football history? Not even close. Not even one of the biggest this millennium. Setting aside personal ties, you have the following. A nation that finished 2nd in their group behind Wales. That needed a stoppage time goal to get their only win of the tournament. A nation that crashed out of the most recent World Cup bottom of their group with only 1 point. That haven't won a knockout game at a major tournament for a decade. With the second youngest squad in the tournament (not that having an older squad helped them in the past). If Iceland beat Germany, THAT would be an epic upset. But beating England? Not really a giant killing because England haven't been a giant for a while. If Iceland had beaten rather than drawn with Portugal, that would have been a bigger upset. Us board members called it too. Look back at the posts from a few days ago. No one thought this would be easy. Edited June 27, 201610 yr by offside

June 27, 201610 yr Eddie Howe/Sean Dyche or a foreign manager, Southgate can f-ck off, A guy who couldn't hold a job down in the championship should not be managing the national team.

June 27, 201610 yr Graeme Souness' comments on Bein after the game summed it up for me. The players have minimal responsibility, minimal cares, they live in a gilded cage with their huge contracts detached from reality, they don't go to tournaments thinking about not letting the country down, they go into tournaments hoping they look good and make a name for themselves. And as he said, in a few weeks time when they are back in their mansions and at their Premier League clubs, none of them will care about this anymore. Really its a similar situation to what happened with us last season. A lot of Roy's decisions were terrible; Kane taking set pieces, Milner not playing a second of football, both Kane and Sturridge being selected ahead of Vardy, going to Wilshere as a first option off the bench. But as per usual, I think he's going to be the sole scapegoat, maybe Hart as well for his string of calamitous errors, but again the players get away with being useless bottlers. And it will only keep happening until we find a way to make players more responsible for their carelessness.
June 27, 201610 yr You need a manager who has experience at getting average players playing above their capabilities, for my money its either big sam or tony pulis to get something out of this bunch of sh*te players, f**k rooney off if he isnt good enough to get in as a striker leave him at home, stop picking players on reputation and get them in on form I mean really what type of idiot takes wilshere over noble/drinkwater??
June 27, 201610 yr Milner not playing a second of football, This is probably the one thing Hodgson got right. After Milner's last 2 tournaments, i think he was lucky to have gone at all. Milner did play by the way, he came on for Sterling against Russia, he rushed out of position in his usual headless chicken way and gave the Russia player the space to play a cross in for their equalizer.
June 27, 201610 yr Hodgson needed to be replaced, but I'm not sure he deserves as much blame as he's getting. I'm not sure changing his tactics or formation would have carried this team to the late stages of this tournament. The problems run much deeper than tactics or lineup. Things weren't great before him, and I think people who are laying this all on Hodgson are in for an unpleasant surprise.

I think he would have performed better than Sturridge or Wilshere did today but its a minor point in relation to what I was trying to say in my comment, that we are a team full of players that don't want to take responsibility for anything, and I think Milner was one of the few players in the squad I would have trusted to really put his hand up and get stuck in.
