June 28, 201610 yr Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard ! That is so true but I wouldn't even say it is down to hard work. It's not as if our players weren't trying (with perhaps the exception of Sturridge who always comes across as a lazy f**ker). Cahill, Walker, Rose, Ali, Rooney - they were all running about, going into tackles, busting a gut...........but we were just void of cohession, ideas and quality. Players switching off as we did for their throw-in and then Hart for what turned out to be the winner doesn't help, but at the end of the day, doesn't matter how hard you work and effort you put in, when you look as clueless as our side and manager did, you have little chance.
June 28, 201610 yr I heard its his assistant thats a part time dentist. He himself has a long managerial career with Sweden and Nigeria. There's a joint managerial partnership at Iceland. Lars Lagerback has been managing Iceland since 2011 previously coaching Sweden throughout all of the 2000s and Nigeria for a year in 2010. The other manager, Heimir Hallgrimmson was an assistant with Iceland between 2011-2013 before signing a joint managerial contract with Lagerback. Hallgrimmson has remained a part-time dentist throughout this time. Lagerback plans to retire after Iceland's Euro 2016 campaign ends, and Hallgrimmson will be the sole full-time role as manager of Iceland after that. Edited June 28, 201610 yr by Jezz

They should be giving the players clear instructions so each know what is expected of them in the game, however it looked like Roy just chucked them altogether and was hoping for the best. 11 players with european experience with top end clubs will have too much for Icelandic journey men….it was a foolish move and he fell on his own sword in the end. What Iceland lacked in talent they made up for in preparation, belief and of course hard work…without all of that they wouldn’t be where they are today. If England applied even half of the above into their preparations for the Euros then they would still be in the completion and not heading home like national jokes. Roy was never the right man to lead England, he kept players in his starting 11 who were terrible in the group games like Hart, Sterling and Kane while others who showed the correct attitude and quality were benched or even worse left at home (Drinkwater). There was no clear plan to these Euros for England…far too much chopping players about trying to fit in manger favourites like Wilshere and persisting with spent forces like Rooney and Sterling. The FA have much to answer for as do each of those players but until the powers that be change the structure of the international game and invest like Germany did more than a decade ago then this same routine of abject failures will continue to dog English football. June 28, 201610 yr Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard ! Leicester City's season there in one sentence.
June 28, 201610 yr Apparently Iceland, the food store, had to remind social media that it's the shop and not the football team! Made me chuckle.

June 28, 201610 yr England out of Europe twice in one week. Once by Iceland, the other by the people who shop there.
June 28, 201610 yr England out of Europe twice in one week. Once by Iceland, the other by the people who shop there. I see you've been reading the Guardian comments too....
June 28, 201610 yr England out of Europe twice in one week. Once by Iceland, the other by the people who shop there. Even if every Iceland (the frozen food superstore) customer voted for brexit, where did the other 16.5 million votes come from ? Waitrose ? I bet Iceland (the frozen food superstore) would just love to have 17.5 million customers. I voted remain and shop at Lidl for the record.
June 28, 201610 yr It's infuriating the fake quotes that I've seen, and frustrating to the extreme that people believe it. Something similar happened with Jack Colback last month. The people who make this sh*t up should be sued for libel.
June 28, 201610 yr I don't for a second imagine that quote is actually real. If they left the bit out about Kane, I may have bought it you know.
June 28, 201610 yr It's satire doing the rounds on social media. I found it amusing! Unfortunately many people think it's true, which makes an amusing piece of satire not so amusing anymore.
June 28, 201610 yr It showed an an actual quote with a player's face next to it. So pardon me for thinking it is true. I generally don't do a cross check of every quote that is posted on forums. Seemed plausible the way England crashed out and Iceland played with motivation.

June 28, 201610 yr It doesn't break any rules relax. I have seen countless pisstaking pictures on my FB page today, all posted by English people.
June 28, 201610 yr well here is a legit quote: Roy Hodgson starts interview with: "I don't really know what I'm doing here"
June 28, 201610 yr Any truth to this? http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/10327446/senior-england-players-lost-faith-in-roy-hodgson-sky-sources
June 28, 201610 yr Anyone know the reaction in the Netherlands when they lost to Iceland and didn't even qualify for Euros? That surely was a greater upset than England. I know Hiddink lost his job. The more I think about this, the more it's not that huge a shock.
