No matter what happens in final week of the window, heads should roll

I bet we are going to end up in some kind of bidding-war for the likes of Johnny Evans or Lamine Kone on deadline day. Which we'll win and we end up paying 25-30 million for Evans.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes...could be that Mangala going to Napoli will initiate the dominoes that leads to us getting K2 or Maksimovic...keep the faith brother

People need to get their head out of the FIFA mentality, we can't just sign anyone, we are in a stupidly competive market.

Also other factors too consider is some players don't become available till late in the window, James Rodriquez the example.

Some years business gets done early, other times it will come late, people expecting things to be like 2012 and 2014 every summer in the nicest possible way don't have the slightest clue on how football and transfers work.

The club have been working on a CB all summer, first choice was Bonnuci, who made it clear (probably to Antonio's face during an international meet up) he weren't coming so then we moved on to Rudiger, who unfortunately done his ACL meaning we had to move to plan C which was Koulibaly.

The problem with Kalidou is he is under a contract with De Laurentis, so was always going to be drawn out, that isn't the clubs fault, even hostage negotiators would struggle to break him, we are also keeping other options open just incase it doesn't happen, hence the Maskmovic links.

You are just making things up and inserting Rumours as facts while dismissing the opinions of others are baseless.

Show me proof that Rudiger and Bonucci were first choices for the club.

Typical of you Argo aka Tomo the board apologist !

No we are not, last season was our lowest ebb defensively, Kante arrival and Conte's tactics instantly boost the defense without a new defender being signed.

Boosted the Defence? I beg to differ. Two goals were conceded against the mighty Bristol Rovers. What cock are you babbling about?

So many miserable pricks on here.

Ah, I thought someone might try and be clever and refer to a comment I made in a match thread...accuse me of double standards all you like, but think there is a difference between moaning after seeing the team win, and making judgements on the club's transfer performance over two summers which are undermining contes hopes of leading us back to where we belong

'I hope to improve the squad in the market but we understand our targets are very difficult to reach

Conte at todays PC. He doesn't sound too optimistic.

Brit, while I don't necessarily agree with your opening post, there is obviously a difference between a balanced, measured and considered criticism of the club (i.e. which you have delivered), and the kind of pathological whining we have been seeing from Chelsea fans of late in response to practically every setback the club has had, however minor.

He adds we have transfer targets but given the nature of the market admits it's 'very difficult' to buy. #CFC

Basically we're f**ked

Well don't leave your targets to the last minute is the lesson there......again

This man knows what he is doing.............NOT. He knows buying defenders is not exciting and we have to play exciting football. My guess is letting 2 goals in by Bristol Rovers is great  :face_palm:

I think this thread is born out of pure frustration but until the window has closed you can't really criticise too much in my book.

We are, in my opinion, two signings away from having had a superb transfer window, and if thee two signings (full back & centre back) were of a high pedigree, then you can assume we will have spent a total of around £150M, and will have in turn, launched ourselves into a position of which I believe we would be capable of a title challenge.

Let's wait and see.

I do agree that leaving ourselves with 4 defenders is crazy however.

I don't understand loaning Ake and Traore out when they are decent squad quality with potential. Hopefully there is a plan above my pay grade. It's easy to knock, let's see. I think Conte is a big plus. our problems in terms of Ivan, matic, pedro, oscar are not quick fixes. We have sold well so hopefully in long term that will be well reinvested.

Obvious difference.

Emenalo is not responsible for negotiating the prize for potential transfer targets nor does he determine the limit of our spending. But I do enjoy a good bashing so by all means, continue

You're right, it is born out of frustration from seeing the mistakes of last summer repeat itself - certainly in terms of defensive targets. even up front we're vulnerable should bats or Costa get injured...there is time for me to be left with some egg on my face..,but then again, I see we are now going after a full back that made little impression at Bolton a few years back...is he really better than what we already had but have loaned out? Just reeks of desperation

Are we really going after Alonso though? Hard to know what to believe from the press. We've been linked to so many players and the vast majority is untrue.

Is it worth pointing out that most of the major player moves are to clubs that have champions league commitments. I fully expected us to be down the pecking order for players and would have had to try to either "unearth" new talent or go for the more unfashionable players. I do find it ridiculous that we lend players to clubs that we are talking to about signing players only for them to turn us down. We should then cancel our loan player, f*** em!

I think the OP rightly stated in his post that we messed things up for the second summer in a row. Last summer we still had the CL, were coming off the title winning season and had Mourinho before his fall from grace which was to happen later. Yet  we failed miserably. Yes, things got worse since then and now we're negotiating from a weaker position, but arguably our failure to upgrade the squad was one of the biggest reasons for our disaster of a 2015/16 season.

Perhaps we should put this topic on hold till window closes next Wednesday...then, as many wish on here, we can all judge our summer Business in its entirety...still think it shouldn't be underestimated how any new signing will need time to play catch up to get used to chelsea and conte's tactics...not ideal when in a tough battle for top four...I would like to stress that I do think Kante and bats were top buys, but we need a lot more than two

It's not so much the not buying anyone really it's the loaning out and selling the back up options we had and not replacing them that's the real issue.

We have literally no depth at all at the back and 1 or 2 injuries and we will be calling up the youth players (the ones who we haven't shipped out on loan).

I don't understand how we can put ourselves in that situation, surely you buy before you sell?

That is a big part of my point chelsbear...surely you wait till deals are done before loaning/selling squad players
