Ray Wilkins as a pundit

Featured Replies

That fat scouse c**t Quinn is up there with the worst. Can't even understand the prick. Niall Quinn may as well do his punditry wearing a City shirt, and the rest are absolute dog sh*t. And the Redknapp duo should never be allowed near TV or Radio, even though the older one has a face fit for radio. Ray Wilkins and Gary Neville are the only that I have found to give constructive comments.

This morning on talk sport, I liked Ray Butch Wilkins comment........along the lines of ....... regarding top football teams playing in harsh winter conditions up in the north of England.....they should have more British players playing for them, because they're more up for the fight !! ............

He hasn't , been "sacked "  a couple of times

Whatever !!.............But he "always bounces back up again" ......why ? .....because he is liked by a Lorra Lorra people...... But obviously not by little old you & a couple of your mates!!!

I remember standing in the shed and following Chelsea all over the country, and I especially remember Ray's skilful playing days during the mid to late 1970's........when thousands of us, would all chant extremly loudly (much louder than crowds do now).......... "Edde McCreadie's Blue n White Army"......Senior Chelsea shed boys like me, remember when the club was in the doldrums, up one minute and down the next minute, beating the top teams, and loosing against the small teams.

We didn't have any money, and didn't have much silverware......But we Loved our Chelsea whatever the result. And I still Love Chelsea the same, as I did back then and always will till my dying days.

After great players like Peter Osgood, Alan Hudson and others had left the club. Ray was our best player at that time, he was made "Chelsea's Youngest Ever Captain"..............and call me old fashioned, but he should be respected for that.

For those of you out there, who don't know the true Chelsea history of why Ray went to Man ure.....I will reiterate again and again the simple truth.........back in the 1970's Chelsea Fc badly needed the money offered by Man Ure, and that's why Ray went there......otherwise he would have stayed at Chelsea. "Simples"

As for TV and Radio main stream Pundits..........They are very, very lucky people to be getting paid to do a job they love............Anyone of us on this thread, maybe with a few exceptions !!!! ......could most probably do better or certainly no worse than a lot of the pundits in the media....."Football is not Rocket Science"..........."In Conte we Trust"........" I'm Chelsea Till I Die"......

It doesn't make any difference whether he has played for Chelsea. For me he is not very interesting as a pundit. I don't enjoy his style. He is okay that is all.

If JT goes to TV at some point he could be sh*t in it. In our backline he was a legend and still is.

We still should show more respect for Ray, even if your not liking him as a pundit.

I respect him as part of our history, im just not convinced he is a particularly great pundit or coach.

If I remember rightly, Ray's wife used to work in the Chelsea ticket office when they started seeing each other.  And of course, he was one of three brothers on the club's books.  To many fans think that footballers are as dyed in the wool supporters as they are.  Whilst we were progressing from wide eyed first game infant to teenage fanatici, the vast majority of these guys were having trials with a whole load of different clubs.  The same applies today. They get over pulling on a rival club's shirt when it comes to making a living from the game.   Ex-Shed boys Gary Chivers and Tommy Langley went on to play for a club not exactly close to any Chelsea fans heart. So did Jason Cundy.  Yet, born and bred Man Utd  fan, Damien Duff, turned down a chance to play at Spurs so as not to upset Chelsea fans.  Funny old game.    It's just good that we have someone in the media, who though isn't sycophantic to CFC, will stand up for it when need be.  Some should also check out the Youtube video when Ray was assistant to Nigel Spackman at Millwall in 2006.   He's accused by their fans outside of The New Den of not caring about their club as 'he's Chelsea'.   Ray doesn't hold back trying to reason with them and gets respected at the end.  Met him at Knutsford Services on the way back from a game up north some years back.    Top fella.

That video proves my point..........I don't think any of the people on this thread that dislike Ray would have the bottle to stand his ground and take the abuse he was getting in that very heated situation, with milllwall fans.

Basically no ones perfect, and it's not a problem to dislike someone's opinion, however proper Chelsea fans should respect Old guys like Ray........for the part he's played in our clubs history.

Ray is a Top Man .......

The other morning talk sh*te played blue is the colour, Quin piped up that's a shocking song, thankfully Alan Brazil corrected him and said with the Leeds song it was one of the best!! Fat scousers what a vile breed!

I could easily lose respect for so called chelsea fans who disrespect a 100%er like Ray, he's forgotten more than we know about the game, i'd love to spend some quality time in his company, the man is us through and through..

I was queuing up to get in the Shed one match a few years ago, and Butch was beside me in the queue.  We chatted a bit, nice bloke, and I said I thought he shouldn't have to queue up like that, oughta be fast-tracked in for all the good sh*t he has done for the club.  Turns out not only was he queuing up with us muppets, but he had actually bought his ticket rather than take a freebie or a corporate.

Like I sais, nice bloke and a great servant to the club.  Some people should show some respect.

It's possible to both respect the man as a former player and staff member, and still dislike his punditry... People on this forum recently seem to think everything is so black and white.

Yeah .........there are some people out there who give us proper old school Chelsea fans a bad name, by slagging off our old senior chelsea thorough bred players just because their style of punditry is different to theirs! .......they need to get a life FFS !!!

He did flirt with Man City

did he really though, or was that merely press speculation?

He did a US Tour amidst all that commotion, and when asked about it outside an hotel he said "not a chance."

I'm sure it was agent stuff trying to wangle a better contract. There was zero chance of him wanting to go there or of the club selling him. To say he 'flirted with City' is simple regurgitation of what the press were putting about to create headlines.

Still love "Butch" but blimey, did anyone hear Wilkins on TalkSport this morning having a disagreement with Neil Custis? It was cringe-worthy - very uncomfortable listening. Lovely guy and can be very witty but you sometimes do wonder about his state of mind.

Custis is a c**t, an absolute weapon. Wilkins did nothing wrong initially, he just said the keeper should have saved it and Custis said "are you being serious" "dont be ridiculous" etc, it was him who started being an arse. and when you are questioned on your football knowledge its probably best not to ask ex Utd and England captain Ray wilkins "who are you?", the greasy fat sh*t.

Oh I agree, I don't like Custis. And I look forward to when Butch is on with Brazil as it's always better than Quinn and some of the others. But I think Wilkins does have a bit of the devil in him and of late he has been going out of his way to be a bit controversial and try and wind people up a bit. Often it turns out funny but today I found it terrible to listen to and our Ray was not totally blameless!

Yeah, it was cringey without a doubt, I think butch let's his mouth run away from his brain sometimes, not great to listen to. I just hate custis, he has a massively overblown opinion of his own self importance, one of those media dickheads who pushes his own opinion as fact, and believes that opinion carries weight. The fat vermin.

Yeah, maybe Butch hates him like you do and perhaps there's even a bit of history so he thought he would just "go for it" this morning!
