Great word from Souness.

From today's Sunday Times .........

Thursday was the greatest night in my time as a Rangers supporter. I watched the club I formerly managed beat RB Leipzig 3-1 to reach the Europa League final on television but I’d have loved to have been at Ibrox for it.

It’s an unbelievable achievement and it’s not like they have been lucky. They have been better than Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, two big Bundesliga clubs, over two games, as well as Red Star Belgrade and Sporting Braga in the knockout phase.

It’s a remarkable run, given the budgets they are up against. Their starting starting line-up against Leipzig cost around £12 million and less than a decade ago they were playing in Scotland’s bottom tier against semi-professional teams. It wasn’t just the victory, it was the manner of it. Rangers looked like a team from the top end of the Bundesliga, La Liga or the Premier League. They have been sensational and there’s no reason they can’t go and win it now. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the manager, knows what he’s doing, he’s been around big games and handles himself really well. The players, to a man, have been sensational. They defend properly, they are workaholics, they’ve got pace and carry a scoring threat, despite having several strikers out.

Finally, my thoughts go to the family of Jimmy Bell, the Rangers kit man, who died suddenly last week. I brought Jimmy into the club. He had a unique character, he did not suffer fools and could be frosty, but also an authenticity around football players because he wasn’t overawed by them.

Jimmy had his own office and several times when I was manager people would say, ‘You’re going to have a word with him’ and I’d reply, ‘I’m not going near him, I’m as frightened of him as you are’. I only saw a mad Rangers man, somebody who was extremely efficient at what he did and had a personality that gave him so much respect around the place. He understood Glasgow Rangers and the standards people had to adhere to if they wanted to be part of that institution.

Fantastic achievement, now I want Rangers, Real Madrid , and maybe Roma to win their finals.

Yep same.

  • Real Madrid = Stop Liverpool.
  • Rangers
  • Roma = Would be nice to see Mourinho and Abraham have success.
