To be consistantly in finals indicates you are putting yourself in a position to win trophies. I agree, its not enough and im sure Southgate agrees because he has now resigned. But its delusional to not see appearing in a final as more successful than losing in the quaters. 

And if your only barometer for success is silverwear, then you get a lovely losers medal for losing in the final and you dont in the quaters. Lovely stuff. 

The main difference being a very fortunate draw, if we'd have been drawn on the other side it would have most likely been quarter final then bust, just like the World Cup.

Well the early front runner, for what little thar means, is Eddie Howe, Poch and Potter.

Potter woild be a good fit. Also a people person, nice guy and a good tactician.

Lee Carsley for me - he actually won the Euros with U21s against Spain - Cole Palmer winning goal and then a good old fashioned punch up with the Spanish lads.  what more do youwant/need?

i like the idea of putting Lee as the 'interim' coach - takes some of the pressure off.  Then give him the job.

😂 You're right about hoping the game was called off after a session the night before.

A few of us purposely " got lost " in our car before a game, drove around and really got lost only for our manager to drive past and direct us to the grounds 😂

We were gutted but had to thank him for finding us !

Realistically all English managers are pony, get a top draw manager in Pep Klopp Tuchel etc..

Will be interesting to see who the FA choose. Previously they have shied away from anyone controversial or who wouldn’t tow the company line. The job is as much a PR one as coaching the national team. Ideally any international team would be led by national by birth though as others have alluded to there is a dirth of homegrown talent, Howe or Carsley possibly the standout candidates. Maybe they’ll turn to a foreigner again, though as good a candidate as they are, I just don’t see a German or Argie being hired. Could they make a play for Pep in 12months …would his intense coaching work at international level given the limited amount of  time he would have with the squad? 
Whoever gets the job will have big expectations thrust upon them. A World Cup in the Americas, where European teams have a very poor record followed by a home Euros.

Howe could get it, still the manager of Newcastle and would remind me of Hoddle leaving Chelsea to take up the role.

Time is relatively short. Suspect they will kick the can down the road and go with Lee Carsley as interim manager. Just as Southgate was appointed interim in the wake of the pint of white wine.
