December 2024 and people still trying to defend Sanchez starting for a team with ambitions. Crazy.

Mods - can we request an IQ test before creating an account. (this would only be for new accounts. Don't worry, you'd be safe @Gol15)

LOL. A team with ambitions, a team 2nd in the league for the first time since the 15th century, and a team you dont even support.................can we please make sure only Chelsea fans apply to post here. cheers.

PS.  A reminder that other than Liverpool (11) and Arsenal (15) Chelsea and Notts forest (18) ,every other team has let in more goals. It's not a perfect way to judge a keeper, but then if you're the kind of 'fan' who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing, have at it. Maybe Sanchez would perform a tad better without you in the stand behind (sic) him.............

15th century? Wait, do you think we're second because of Sanchez? pmsl.

PS. A reminder that no player other than Muric at Ipswich (4) has made more errors leading to goals than Sanchez (3). When looking at individual stats (not team stats like a Neanderthal) we'll also see Sanchez ranks 23rd (dead last in the PL) for post shot expected goals per shot on target. This means that no keeper has faced 'easier' shots to save than Sanchez on average. Although he's facing the easiest shots he still only ranks 19th when it comes to post shot expected goals minus goals allowed.

Are we sure we've not seen you on this forum before 'The Beard', if that is your real name...

Well, it has been a long time since we looked stable in such a position at the top end of the league, so yeah 15th century. It maybe a little hyperbolic. You got a century you prefer?

Of course I do not think we are there because of Sanchez, we are there because a team is finally being forged from an extremely large group of  very young guys. Team dynamics, are about more than individual skill, and it is the managers job to create that dynamic. We are  second Because it is clear Maresca  knows what he is doing. I'm happy with that, we are making clear headway, and I have no intention of  being negative about it. I watch the same match as you, I'm probably lucky that I don't have to watch it worrying about how my fantasy football team is performing, or how large a part the team plays in my own personal self esteem. You win some you lose some, it's a healthy attitude to have. But I do like to have a team I know the names of. I do like continuity, and I do like that players are being given time to grow into the position they are being entrusted with. Sanchez has his faults, and still we are second and looking the part. Lighten up. Support your team!

PS. The ony stat I really care about is the one that shows me where the team is positioned in. the table.

PSS.I joined a few weeks back and posted only a few posts because I was extremely busy. Uniucky for you I am now free until the new year. 😉

LOL. And what a great school it is. Can you even spell ad hominem?

PS. It's Beard, just plain Beard. Time's up Potter is not a line that you would have ever have heard from me That much should be obvious from the way I talk about our team.

Honestly I am at the point now where my biggest fault on Maresca is continuing to pick him as our number 1, when he is clearly not good enough.

I wonder if Maresca is doing it to protect Jorgensen? Maybe he rates him but thinks the pressure of being our number one so early in his career could break him, so he makes do with Sanchez as Bettinelli is only here as he is reported to be a good trainer and good for moral.

Now I kinda feel sorry for Sanchez. Sort of reminds me of Jose insisting on picking Brana when we knew his body would not do what his brain and heart wanted him to do.

Unlike Brana is not Sanchez body that has gone, but he clearly does not have the focus to be a top keeper, and he makes that clear week after week with terrible passing and bozo moments.

I don’t want to be a conspiracy Andy but for me it’s because we didn’t only get him but his GK coach from Brighton as well.

Last season Djorde was slightly better (which is not a lot) than him and he was the one loaned out straight away. I don’t think he even got a chance in pre-season.

I wasn't going to reply because you're clearly the same troll as before but never mind.

It was only 3 years ago we'd played 15 games and W10 D3 L2. Scored 35 and conceded only 9, better than what we are currently doing. Not sure if you supported us then but this isn't some unheard of dizzying height for Chelsea.

So you'd pick your team based on the names of players you know? Why ever make a new signing and improve when you can just field the same 11 every week for a decade. What a bizarre and frankly ridiculous statement. At no point should we be happy with frankly embarrassing performances just because the outfield players have done their job and got us the points. Three errors leading to goals, countless other passes to opposition leading to shots and dangerous attacks.

If that's the only stat you care about then you should realise a better GK would help push for 1st. 2nd wins you nothing.

"2nd wins you nothing"  You have my sympathies. You have obviously spent years in despair. Balance in life helps. I'm no expert so I won't charge for the advice, but I would suggest you spread you interests a little wider, and actually enjoy them warts and all. It's the best prescription I can offer.

If the season ends now what do we win? You can enjoy team performances and still realise we aren't perfect and where obvious improvements need to be made.

Maybe tell Mummy and Daddy you don't want that Chelsea shirt for Christmas anymore, i'm sure there's still time to swap it for an Arsenal shirt. They seem to be more than happy just being runners up, you'll fit in perfectly.

I can see you are well versed in coming second. Have a good day 😉

Im a critic of keepers as Im a former more rubbish one than sanchez. Yeah, totally agree,  he's had some howlers, his kicking is at times erratic, but ive also said he is capable of genius... It is fair to point out the mistakes leading to goals, but similarly, we dont see stats for key saves. He does make absolutely huge saves at points that either keep us ahead or in it. Im thinking of his save against Watkins when we're 1-0 up against Villa. there have been a couple of sublime passes up the pitch leading to goals and many more one on ones etc.

Also, across the league, there is a calamity virus going around Premier League keepers. Theyre all as bad as each other. Alison has had some clangers, Ederson too. Arsenal ditched Ramsdale, Even Englands number two up in Ant and dec land has loooked like a muppet... Then theres the likes of Carson et al at England level through the years.

Is he the best keeper at the club. No, I still think Kepa is a better option but fans and the club seem to think otherwise. I am coming around to the mindset that actually most keepers are walking mistakes and probably shouldnt have been born with velcro hands given how they now being asked to play, ie with a ball at their feet. Its playground law that kids who fall over shoelaces play in goal and get the ball smacked at their heads... there is no qualification from Primary through to secondary schools about Keepers needing to be good with their feet...

Back to sanchez, he reminds me of Gomez who played for Spurs and Watford and he was a very tidy keeper.  Im actually alright with seeing if Sanchez gets more conifdence and improves this season and moving on in the summer if nothing changes but - we're on an upward cure, in the top four and hes playing between the sticks so why change a winning formula.
