Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea

Good save in the second half but there was a dodgy moment around the 25 minute (I think) when he just gave the ball away and it was like 5 minutes of Brentford coming on to us. He brings chaos into our defence. Then again, he had a good save in the second half. However, we need to improve the position, we can’t have a bloke in goal whom the defenders don’t trust.

There was also a moment in the first half where he almost let the ball roll into his own net under no pressure. Like you say, he brings chaos. The positives do not outweigh the negatives.

Rgdn sanchez...Yesterday was one of his best games in the shirt. He can be an amazing goalkeeper/shot stopper at times and a liability at others.

*If he keeps working on his weaknesses though, i.e. ball at his feet, stupid moments of lack of concentration, then he can be our number 1 for a while.

*( yes, I can't believe I said that, lol. But it's how I truly feel atm, might revise this once I come to my senses later today... 😆)

I really hope that the bold part is not the board's line of thought and they're already working on bringing in a proper number 1.

Glad to see him put such an assured performance in, particularly when dealing with crosses. He claimed a number of free kicks launched into the box which is normally a big strength of Brentford's, nullifying that threat.

If you think his lackadaisical passing invites chaos, then it's fair to say his claiming of crosses helped inspire confidence in his teamates

Think yesterday was somewhat typical of him. I’ve found his shot stopping and claiming crosses ok for the most part.

I don’t think he’s a terrible goalie but there is a dodginess/inconsistency about him. He’s probably a mid table level keeper but I’d of thought that about a number of his team mates until recently , so who knows.

Was good yesterday and made a couple of really good saves.

The key for me was that he went long a bit more and even released the ball quickly sometimes.

No need to do short passes all the time, mix it up and teams won’t know what to expect.

I have been very critical of Sanchez, but today (Everton) was another day when he saved us from a defeat.  Also another game where he looked safe in all he did, and didnt look shaky with the ball at his feet (which thankfully didnt seem to end up with him all that much).

Good display. Well played.

His admittedly terrible errors give the impression he's an overall bad keeper, he isn't.

That being said we do need "more" in the long run, but he gets a harsh press.

Sanchez's issues have always been in his head. He makes mistakes because he switches off or panics. If he sorted those issues out, we wouldn't need a new goalkeeper.

Here's a nice statistical titbit for all Robert's detractors LOL.

#3 is interesting too !

2 good games in a row, so against Fulham...

Its absolutely mental that we looked at Sanchez once again in summer and came to the conclusion he was good enough to play out from the back. Not only was this decision made, we publicly announced in the media that we thought he was good enough, which is embarrassing.

The bloke is thicker than mince, not got the brain to pass out from the back. The defense look like they have zero confidence in him when he has the ball at his feet. The pass last night was suicidal and we were very lucky not to concede from it.

Yep.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), he has the odd good game where he does make some great saves and everyone forgets about his flaws.

We were spoiled by having keepers like Cech and Courtois, who were elite keepers. There are not many of those around but Christ, there must be better than Sanchez. Every other PL team seems to have a more efficient keeper than we do - Spurs just picked one up for £12M and he looks way better.

Yeah, Spurs now have two keepers better than all of ours for the same price as we paid for Sanchez.
