Having said that, even Me & Mrs Jones only reached #12 in this country so if we are going on UK charts alone, then Billy Paul was effectively a no hit wonder 🙂 It's a fair point. However, I would counter that regardless of the UK charts, Let Em In and Only the Strong Survive are Billy Paul classics that would be found on pretty much any Philadelphia sound album.

September 9, 20241 yr Author What I would suggest is if you load a song then comment on why you think it qualifies, some of mine were only once in the UK yet more prolific in the US. I have also noticed it is quite difficult sometimes to see quickly what singles an artist had and where they were successful. Only done for a bit of fun so errors are not a problem 😀
September 9, 20241 yr This track was #1 just about everywhere in 1999. Can recall dancing to it in just about every bar in Ios that summer. Good times 🙂

September 9, 20241 yr This is probably a no hit wonder. This track is this band's most well known track, in fact is probably there signature track, yet the original never charted in the US or the UK and the re-release only ever got to 57 in the UK charts. For those into the Soul and r&b circuit this is still a stonking track.
September 10, 20241 yr A No 1 in February 1981. Keeping ‘Vienna’ by Ultravox from the No 1 spot! Unbelievable!! Cant ever remember him having anything like a hit after this song.
September 10, 20241 yr As far as I know this was their only hit. The video includes scenes from Metropolis a film made in 1927 and directed by Fritz Lang and considered by many to be one of the most iconic films of all time.

I know, I was there. Based on his Italian grandparents' mangling of English. Struck it lucky. These days he's a well-thought-of poet.
