Musical one hit wonders

Perhaps we need a thread definition of what constitutes a "hit" because those 3 additional Billy Paul tracks you've mentioned peaked at 30, 26 and 33 in the UK charts LOL.

Having said that, even Me & Mrs Jones only reached #12 in this country so if we are going on UK charts alone, then Billy Paul was effectively a no hit wonder 🙂

It's a fair point. However, I would counter that regardless of the UK charts, Let Em In and Only the Strong Survive are Billy Paul classics that would be found on pretty much any Philadelphia sound album.

Mmmm. Not sure they qualify as one-hit wonders. Two-hit wonders perhaps. The Beatles didn't release "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" as a single. Marmalade did and topped the UK charts.

Three hit wonders?

What I would suggest is if you load a song then comment on why you think it qualifies, some of mine were only once in the UK yet more prolific in the US.

I have also noticed it is quite difficult sometimes to see quickly what singles an artist had and where they were successful.

Only done for a bit of fun so errors are not a problem 😀

Gone for this one as allegedly his only hit in the UK

Maybe in the UK but no way can John Denver be classed as a one hit wonder. String of hits across multiple decades and one of the most enduring country singers across those years.

This is probably a no hit wonder.

This track is this band's most well known track, in fact is probably there signature track, yet the original never charted in the US or the UK and the re-release only ever got to 57 in the UK charts. For those into the Soul and r&b circuit this is still a stonking track.

A No 1 in February 1981.

Keeping ‘Vienna’ by Ultravox from the No 1 spot! Unbelievable!!

Cant ever remember him having anything like a hit after this song.

You're right. Australian stand-up comedian (actually American-born) who didn't really have a profile in Australia till this song.  I know, I was there. Based on his Italian grandparents' mangling of English. Struck it lucky. These days he's a well-thought-of poet.

Cheers for that information. Seriously!
