September 14, 20241 yr Ooohh I'm on a roll! I love this cover (which is a very modest hit admittedly): Edited September 14, 20241 yr by Valerie

September 30, 20241 yr Not that they ever really existed as a band. Paul Leka also co-wrote "Green Tambourine".
October 4, 20241 yr Okay, Dobie Gray is an interesting one, as 'Drift Away' did not chart at all in the UK, but was a no.5 hit, in the USA. But Dobie Gray only charted twice in the UK, once with the In-crowd - which only made it to no.25 and once with the Northern Soul Classic, which made it to no.42 in the UK chart. Is that a hit?

Maria McKee was the lead singer. No idea what happened to it ... just looked on the shelf and it isn't there, so I guess I'll add that to the long list of stuff my ex helped herself to about 30 years ago 🙂
October 11, 20241 yr Dept S was an English new wave band from the 80s fronted by Vaughan Toulouse. This was their only hit reaching no.22 in the UK charts. Is Vic There?
October 11, 20241 yr Vaughan was good mates with Paul Weller. Remember he had another minor hit under the guise of The Main T Possee - Fickle Public Speaking. He was quite a character but sadly died from AIDS in 1991.
October 29, 20241 yr This reached No 10 in 1980. Can’t see any other hits by this band in the British Charts. Great band name!😀 For some reason I thought this was a song by Echo and the Bunnymen!😀 DOH !!

Is Vic There? Seem to remember the title came from a Monty Python sketch, when they were doing a spoof phone-in programme. It was utter chaos with crossed-lines and wrong numbers, and a woman's voice said "Is Vic there?" Edited October 29, 20241 yr by Backbiter
