This is the team I ended up with, out on the quarters to England on penalties.

Yeah it's a good game.

Went out to Brazil in the semis!!

FIFA have backed down to an extent on their ban on taking plastic bottles of water into grounds. Given the temperatures and humidity at night games let alone day games, how idiotic are they to announce the ban in the first place? How out of touch? Bah.

It was a typical Tuchel-ball display, somehow both cutting and insipid at the same time. Loads of crosses/cutback chances, few actual shots.

There's been a lot of talk about his squad selection and rightly so, but this is a squad tailor-made for Tuchel-ball. Lightning fast on the counter, physical midfield, dominate set pieces. He's not interested in picking the lock of a deep block, the jeopardy of ET and penalties will do that for him.

Tuchel-ball is such that England could either bomb out in the group stage or get to the final. Anything in between is the unlikely option.

I’m OK with it,” was the German’s forthright assessment of England’s display. “I’m not super-happy about it. I like the second half more than the first half. We played more from our positions and that’s why we played with more speed and off the ball we played with a bit more bite. The first half we were out of positions and it was a bit too much freestyle.

That slowed our game down and made it difficult for the counterpress because we were not in the positions that we wanted to be when we started attacking. That’s basically the story of the match.

Tuchel explained that his “freestyling” comment mainly related to positional awareness. “We were lacking width so players were coming inside and narrowing ourselves down and slowing ourselves down and changing positions for too long,” he said. “We were taking crosses, a lot of long-range shots, normally not our style of play. We played a lot of long balls, we played a lot of long passes. That was not part of training in the last four days.

(From this Guardian article)

"Not boring enough, do better."

Tuchel clearly understands English heritage. We did, after all, sh*thouse our way to our one and only men's tournament win.

Ive noted the drinks breaks and the potential for delays or postponement for adverse weather...for the final group games its the norm to start them at the same time in any given group. If one gets a weather delay does the other game in that group get delayed also. Or is the risk of collusion put aside?

I doubt they've thought that far ahead. The evidence thus far is that they're making it up as they go along.

The ban was just a commercial decision to force fans to buy overpriced drinks in the stadium.

And yet again in a World Cup year we have to watch England's only appearance in a World Cup Final...... 1966

Channel 4 showed the whole match yesterday., surely, it's not beyond us to at least reach a final never mind win it so at least generations to come can watch a different England game every World Cup year.

Can't see it being this time around, at least we've got a German to blame if we don't !!
