World Cup 2026

I liked it when there was a tournament of 16

four groups of four no messing about

quarters, semis, final.

No spaces for also rans.

The current format lets every man and his dog in. Many almost meaningless matches. Minnows thrashing minnows.

Entertainment and interviews at half time.

Yep and a wall chart that actually fitted on the fkg wall!!

Remember the qualifying groups were also more exciting, 4 teams max groups (usually at least two very strong) and only one team qualifying. Remember watching an Italy v England qualifier at school in the science lab lol, no idea why it was being played in the afternoon but remember we lost 2-0 was absolutely gutted back in those days.

  1. England at home, those nasty Argentinians, the cheeky North Koreans, the Germans as resolute as ever. Isnt it Arent they. Uwe Seeler, Tostao, Eusebio, Martin Peters. Oh suits you.

You all know that theyre going to all try to play pep football. Except for Tuchel who will bore the wet out of a c**t getting us to the the quarters before a team (hopefully Brazil) shows us entertainment still matters and probably ancelotti who is going for every single cup win in the game. Roman was such a nob for sacking Carlo....

Group D has Australia and Turkey.

The Australians work hard and the Turks have at least one player that can score from distance for the first time.

It might got the wire or the best official that money can buy, remember Italy against Korea.

sounds promising unless you play for USA

Fifa must answer questions after allegations of "artificially inflating prices" and "misleading fans" over the sale of tickets for the 2026 World Cup.

It comes as the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey officially launched an investigation into Fifa's practices.

New Jersey attorney general Jennifer Davenport called the process a "gauntlet of confusion, fake scarcity and impossibly high prices".

She added there would be a "thorough investigation of Fifa's conduct" with world football's governing body subpoenaed to provide information.

A subpoena compels a party to release specified internal documents or information.

Round of 16 and the round of 32 have become a badge of honour 😂

At some point we will have some smaller teams boasting at reaching the round of 64 or even 128🤣

and still Wales wont qualify.

And Scotland will go down to Haiti…

Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour is ruled out of the World Cup after picking up a knee injury during Saturday's 4-1 friendly win over Curacao.

Ah no, poor Billy 😪

I've just thought of another reason why a 48 team world cup is a bad idea.........it's even harder to fill up those Panini Sticker albums now.

Don't - Gives me bad childhood memories all that pocket money spent on Panini stickers at Martins the newsagents. I remember the one player that haunts me I just could not get was Teofilo Cubillas , although on second thoughts I probably got a lot nearer to him than Scotland ever did lol.

The problem was that they were never available long enough. You had a 6-8 week window to get them all. After that, the best you could do was swaps with your mates.

Interesting rule changes ahead of WC, including expanded VAR powers, and what looks to be limiting tactical slowdowns / injuries and time wasting. Arteta will need a new plan if some of these make their way to the Premier League, although knowing our lot, we'll find a way to limit ourselves here!

One or two of these might be very difficult to enforce without controversy.

Surely the 2 things will pretty much cancel each other out. Less time wasting from the players but more time being wasted on ludicrously long VAR checks ?

Panini albums were much cheaper to compile back then.
