I doubt it's true because it was in the People but if it is then I'd bite their hand off for it. Apparently City are in the frame to put a £15m bid for Alex. If they do, take it and don't faff around.

Now that would be a good deal to do for sure. Solid he has been, but we have seen a few mistakes from him recently, and as we've discussed many times we probably do need to let one of Alex or Ivanovic go if the club have any faith that Mancienne will make it.

ill drive him there for £15 mill.

He's been everything but confident lately. I think he also looks very uncomfortable playing for us. I don't know if he looks that sour all the time but it certainly doesn't look promising. I think he actually wants out of the club. If City offers 15mill take it and leave. We have got Mancienne and Ivanovic to cover.

are all of you mad? madmen? why the hell you you be happy to let go of the first good 2nd string centreback we have had for years!! for what, £15m which isnt exactly crazy money these days - Alex has been totally superb and you cannot say "oh he made a couple of mistakes so let him go" because JT this season would be out the door by now!

you mentalists We need to keep Alex on a short leash and give him a payrise if thats what it takes! mancienne... psh you lot dont know nuthin. Look at him, hes a slip of a lad. no striker is afraid of that, but the mere sight of Alex, the monster he is, takes the edge off most guys up front..

not only that but he made the transition from holland>reserves>bench>first team big games superbly. when Ricky was out who picked up the pieces? Alex. when JT was out who picked up the pieces? Alex.

now shut it!

:D

I'm with you there. Great player! Fills in well back there and also has a great free kick.

Dunno about 'great free kick' Mod!

The guy HAS scored some screamers is his time, but in Chelsea blue he really hasn't done much at all, with almost all attempts going well wide or hitting the wall. Despite the fact that he can belt it, I really don't think he has much claim to be anywhere near our free kicks at the moment.

(Not that any of our other options are really delivering now either, but I still think he's at the bottom of the potential takers pecking order).

At the moment we have 5 CH for two positions. I can't see us selling JT or Ricky. Ivanovic is a better utility player.

Mancienne is a good prospect and has to be incouraged so if one player must go, and I think that should happen,

then my choice would be Alex much as I like him.

Hmmm, tough one this. He has been reliable, but if we are to be selling before buying, I think 15 million for him is a good offer! We could use that money to strengthen other areas of the pitch (wings and upfront)!

Now, JT and Carvalho are the main CB pairing, but I am more than happy with what I have seen of Ivanovic when he has played, and it'd be fine to have him as 3rd chioce and mancienne as 4th. Had we not recalled Mancienne, I'd say we would be stupid to sell Alex. But $15 million....yes please

Well Mod I knew you would be able to find an example of one that did go in, but my argument is that they are very very few and far between!

He is a good defender though, for sure, which is what really matters, but I do think if we are to keep one of the two, Ivanovic is probably the one I would stick with.

I think for most people this isn't really a case of determining whether or now Alex is a player worth keeping (as I would think most, though not all, would agree he is) and is more a case of deciding whether or not it is am amount of money worth accepting. (I know this is paper talk and not a formal offer). Basically it is the first time in 5 years where we have had to start thinking like the fans of the vast majority of clubs and I personally don't think that is a bad thing.

The money we got for Bridge was very good and left back is a position where we are less endowed (in a manner of speaking!) - based on that logic £15m for our 3rd choice centre half when we have a further two options is excellent money and IF that money was goiung to be given to Scolari to spend then it would make good sense to accept it.

£15m for Alex would be great money and certainly not to be turned down given that we can simply promote Mancienne to be our 4th choice centre half.

absolutely right lozzer, and that's absolutely what we should look to do with mancienne.

JT and Carvalho have been showing signs of wear and tear over the last 12 months, with periods when both were not available for selection.

Weve just begun the 2nd half of the season and were fighting on 3 fronts for silverware over the next 16 weeks or so.

We may end up needing Alex more than we need the £15m.

Whats the point in selling more players, when were not buying any replacements ?

I'm not sure I agree with all the "we are selling players to buy new players" talk happening. With PK saying we are not buying this month, should we want to see players going out the door just to scrape back money into the club?

If it was a case of keeping Alex or putting a hot meal on PK's table of an evening, I know what option I would be ticking!

Just to be clear - I am totally in agreement with that - I would only advocate the sale of Alex if the money was to be given to Scolari to reinforce other areas before the window closes. If not then we shouldn't sell.

Also agreed... and even then it would depend who we were getting in return.

he has been uncharacteristically woeful of late and it makes me think all the reports he wants to go are true...he was mr dependable when jt was out last season, but he's been wetter than a wet fish recently...he's been at fault for a number of goals and the way he just let delap run in to score on saturday without making a challenge was unforgiveable. if one of jt or carv are out in future, i'd rather he be left out and branislav given another chance, or dare i say it a certain england under 21 international who has just come back from a loan spell...anyone notice wolves have hit the skids since he left?

I agree, has has gone from one of our best defenders to 4th choice (in my mind) and the only thing that has changed was the story coming out that he wanted to leave.

I don't think he would play badly on purpose, but i do think he has lost osme motivation for playing in our defense. No idea why though, he has played more games than some 1st choice defenders and with our injury problems he knows he will get games!

I dont think Alex is doing a 'Gallas‘ to try to get out of his contract. He was ordinary in the past few games, so was Terry and Ricardo lately. We have one in form defender, and we havent played him for a month while others struggled. Hopefully he will get a game this weekend
