Since Scolari was sacked and Hiddink took over (granted it has only been two games and Hiddink wasn't officially in charge of the first one) Quaresma hasn't had a look in.

On his debut, although not fantastic, he was clearly the best of a bad bunch and did give us a little pace and an option out wide that would attack players. He did give the ball away cheaply on a few occasions but then again so did everyone against Hull.

IN the two games under Hiddink he has spent the whole 90 minutes sitting on the bench and this despite the fact he can't play against Juve and therefore it was a chance to rest someone with Wednesday in mind.

The counter argument is that Hiddink realises our best chance of winning one of the 'big prizes' is the champions league and therefore he wanted to take as much opportunity as he could to see the players who would be available to him on Wednesday.

Guus didnt want us to use the wings in the final third, thats obvious, Shearer pointed it out last night on MOTD.

Thats why Quaresma didnt play, maybe if Villa were leading with 20 minutes left Guus would of used him ?

If you ever try and base an argument on what Alan Shearer said again I will personally see to it that you are institutionalised! :)

It is a fair argument - especially when you consider that against Watford we did exactly that, went behind and brought on a winger.

I did like Shearer's analysis - where he tried to point out times that there were large spaces on the flank that a winger would have taken advantage of. Sometimes he was right but other times he was pointing out 'spaces' were there was clearly a Villa man who would have covered the space if a winger had been there. It was as if he was desperate to make the point and needed enough examples to prove his point even if they were iffy ones.

shearer couldnt point out his own belly button. im sure hes only there to make hansen look slightly less dumb.

Agreed 110%.

I'm sure Guus will be using Quaresma for games where we dont need to be as tight as we were against Villa, like Wigan next Saturday ???

maybe guus thought he hadnt put the effort in in training, and wasnt worthy of a place

and those that got a run out had

riccy q did say scolari was a big reason he had come chelsea, maybe scolari buggering off as made him thing ball to it

I would use him. The guy needs games and could be quality. He was once linked to be as good as Ronaldo so why not lets play him and see what he can do.

I was reading on Sky sports the other day he played in the reserves and scored 2.

The worrying thing is will he get played or will Stoch? Before Hiddink, Wilkins need width and brought on Stock over Quaresma in FA cup which I couldnt work out? Quaresma was on the bench wasnt he?

Anyway, i hope we play him. We need someone with a bit of trickery. Yes he may give the ball away but then we need someone with a few tricks who can draw the fouls!

Quaresma is the best winger we have. Bar Stoch, who is hugely untested against anything like top class opposition.

Guus is not blind and I don't think he has it against Riccy Q, so if he wants us to play with wingers, our new No. 18 will be in the starting line-up. Exactly why he wouldn't play with wingers, as Shearer rightly pointed out, is a matter beyond my humble footballing brain.

I would like to see a frontline of Q, Anelka and Stoch, because I think the sped and guile of those three players would compliment eachother. And I think Quaresma is the type of forward that needs the ball, whereas Stoch is capable of getting into space without it.

Thats nothing against Kalou, because he was very good on Saturday. But hopefully between those three we dont see Malouda much, and they can supply the creative play that will keep Deco on the bench

Pretty lightweight front line though. I thought against Villa we saw some signs of the Drogba we know he can be and that strength is not to be sniffed at in the Premiership.

That might not be a bad idea, maybe alternating Anelka and Drogba.Queresma, Stoch and Kalou should, between them, consign Malouda to the stiffs where he belongs!

I think Guus just wanted to see the players he can use on Wed playing together as he hasn't had much of a change so far.

I see old Red Nose is suffering by not playing Vidic, who's not available mid week and getting Evans injured. I assume why he didn't was because he has see little of Evnas and Rio playing together and wanted to test it out before Tuesday.

Quaresma will get his chance but yesterday when we were ahead and Villa were gaining momentum we needed to make the game narrow to prevent Villa playing their normal game in order to play the game out. At home we're more likely to need to open up the opposition who will be playing the narrow game against us and Quaresma is the type of player who will help to open them up.

I was thinking Anelka more for his speed and ability to keep up with those two. But Drogba has definitely been looking his old self, and he was able to play with Robben and Duff so I guess he doesnt really need to keep up with the speed on the flanks.

Whatever happens as long as Malouda = last resort like bluevale says, I am happy

In which case -

Quaresma - Alex - Stoch

Qaresma had a run out in the reserves against stoke...by all accounts he never looked too interested, shame for him if he doesn't put his best into his time here,

with his reputation regarding his temperement you wonder how many decent chances he will get.

Posted

I get the feeling its probably a match fitness issue for him and that he will get a bit of a run once that issues dealt with

I would like to see Riccy Q play full 90 mins the guy's got talents sadly he does Ronaldo's bad points too diving.... he could help us against team employing the "Bus" technique frustrating us..... he and Stoch ofc...... should we use Kalou as a Striker or SS?? to make room for Riccy Q & Stoch.... and ofc selling off Malouda!!

Posted

when you look at the kind of player he is hes almost exactly what we need when teams come to defend deep. hes got pace, runs at defences, is tricky and difficult to handle (and most important of all hes not malouda). on the other hand hes also a greedy player, makes bad final decisions and can be as frustrating as kalou/gronkjaer (kalkjaer if you will). hes never got anywhere near his potential and it would be great to see him play as well as people expected of him.

quaresma looked good last night against portsmouth,he put in a couple of really good crosses aimed at drogba.i think hiddink will use him a lot more now.

Posted

ballacks assist? if he didn't completely airshot it, it wouldn't have come through to drogba

yea i voted for quaresma on mom thread. only seen 2nd half on match choice but he was a constant threat

now's the time to use him. make the switch to 4-4-2. we have 2 competent wingers in qauresma and kalou and decent backup in stoch
