loz
Saturday afternoon down at the caravan park. I would think it is very likely we will see some rotation now that Hiddink has all but given up on the title. Maybe we will finally see Stoch and or Di Santo get another start. blizeH
Cech, Belletti, Terry, Carvalho, Ivanovic, Stoch, Mikel, Malouda, Quaresma, Anelka, Di Santo. !LoL! etc Edited April 23, 2009 by blizeH
youlots
Given that Le Arse play a day later at home against Boro it's a given Wenger will play his 2nds (because of the CL game midweek) which may be important to us (and Boro obviously) if we drop points against Spam on Saturday or, worst case, lose and then Le Arse beat Boro. We have a healthy goal difference over Le Arse at the moment but we don't want to ultimately lose 3rd place to them (even if that does seem inconcievable at present) - it would ruin Kenyon's post season plans if we had to play the qualifiers for the CL next year. Obviously next week is all important and I doubt very much that (barring any injuries on Saturday & the LB dilemma) Hiddink hasn't already more or less settled his selection for Barca. So we may as well play all the kids including giving Mancienne another go at LB & Riccy needs a run as does Belleti. I'd give Kalou and Di Santo a go up front, Mikel, Lamps, Essien (the latter two always play better the more work you give em') & Stoch in the middle; Cech & Alex (on the basis that he's less likely than JT is to get injured) as well. Chippy
I don't like giving up on the league while it's still a possibilty buty I would like to see some rotation for this one.. I would hope Bosingwa is back for this as I don't think Ivan has been that good at LB in the last couple (although great back up) a tough decision is if to bring Riccy back at the expense of the able Alex as if he is to play against Barca a sharpening up game could be handy(maybe 60 minutes) would like to see Ash taken off at some stage to give whoever (Mancienne or Ivan) will be LB Tuesday a run out in that position. I would rest Drogba for fear of a knock and play Nic up front with Kalou who came on and done ok against Everton and deserves a start, maybe an idea to rest Malouda who is getting into some form but too many changes would be unwise so would only do that if some of my other options don't happen. Cech has to play as his confidence looks to be coming back. I hope Stoch is at least on the bench and if we are to the good him and Di Santo get on at some stage although for all my ideas we might need more subs than we could get away with. The Moos
Even if we do give up the league (which is stupid since we still have a chance) I can't see why we should give up everything. What about 2nd place? It's not as good as first, but it's better than 3rd. If ManU wins the title yet again then I would atleast like to see Chelsea end up 2nd. It's not too bad to finish 2nd behind ManU after all. Besides, I do NOT want to see us end up below Liverpool or Arsenal. So while I'd like to see some players get a shot at playing (Quaresma, Di Santo and Stoch for instance) I still want us to field a strong team and win every single game. mad_mac
I too don't think we should just roll over, but we should certainly try and place a few younguns on the bench. Not sure why hiddink hasn't played Stoch since his arrival, so I doubt we will see him. Scott
youlots
Moos - none of us wants to finish third & none us wants to finish behind the filth. But... Let's be realistic, we both have 5 league games left, they're 3 points above us with a superior goal difference, have an easier run in & they have no CL/midweek games left to play. Plus if we are going to have a new manager next year and the much talked of post season clean out it makes sense to give them game time now as opposed to in the initial games next year. Hiddink has recently said that the club should be run more like Wenger runs Le Arse. Regardless of what one thinks about his opinion on that issue, it'll be interesting to see his selections over he coming month: If, as we all suspect, Mancienne will start at LB on Tuesday then I for one would applaud the decision (and regardless of whether he f**ks up of not) on the basis that he's blooding the youth regardless of the "importance" of the game and even if it is the CL. In saying that I accept that the title has well and truly gone for us this year barring any major f**k ups by Manure. I, like any else around here would love to win the CL at long last (as well as, obviously the FA) but I don;t think we should, at the same time, turn a blind eye to already preparing for next years title race: Simply put, I want the title back!!! And I want it back next year, not the year after, or the year after that...If that means giving the kids a go in the remaining PL fixtures to see whether they're worth keeping and/or whether they're woth loaning out next year and ultimately how they react to pressure, then its a perfect opportunity - and I'd say regardless of whether we do Barca or not. evissy
On the left side we will most definetly see the guy who replaces A.Cole in the Barca game. Ivanovic, Mancienne or even Belletti. It would be brilliant to see Mancienne stop Messi succesfully. Think what it would do to his confidence. We need to play more unused guys at this point. Quaresma, Stoch, Mikel, Di Santo. mad_mac
As I have stated before, I fail to see what Quaresma has done when he has played. we have a resurgance in Malouda, which happens to coincide with him NOT being dropped in favour of a loan player. Quaresma is just that...a LOAN player. So why should we use him ahead of first team or reserve players unless there is an absolute necessity to do so? I see Hiddink as a manager brought in to save a sinking ship, and he's done a bloody great job at it. I don't think you will save a team, and build team morale, if you're cutting out first teamers, or reserves, or youth team products just to keep someone happy who is gone in a month...and who can't even play in the CL for us!!! What I am more alarmed at, is the sudden disappearance of Stoch Scott

loz
I have a feeling there will be a few changes - my BPL team is Starting 11: (1) Cech (2) Mancienne (3) Terry (4) Alex (5) Ivanovic (6) Mikel (7) Ballack (8) Lampard (9) Di Santo (10) Kalou (11) Malouda 7 Subs: (1) Hilario (2) Belletti (3) Essien (4) Drogba (5) Quaresma (6) Stoch (7) Mellis
The Moos
As I have stated before, I fail to see what Quaresma has done when he has played. we have a resurgance in Malouda, which happens to coincide with him NOT being dropped in favour of a loan player. Quaresma is just that...a LOAN player. So why should we use him ahead of first team or reserve players unless there is an absolute necessity to do so? The thing is, Malouda plays to the left and Quaresma plays to the right so I don't see how they can cancel eachother out. Both can play. I'm sure Quaresma could play to the left too, but that is not his natural position. Malouda is our only natural left winger. We could play Anelka there, but that would be wrong (how many goals has he scored as a winger? Can't be many); we could play Kalou there, but that would be wrong since he usually plays to the right; we could play Stoch there, but he too usually plays as a right winger; and we could play Quaresma, but as with Kalou and Stoch, he prefers the right side. So personally I would put Anelka on the bench (or Drogba but I think Drogs need to keep playing to maintain his form) and play Malouda to the left, Drogs as striker and then Quaresma to the right with Stoch coming on later in the game. My Team Malouda - Drogba - Quaresma Lampard - Mikel - Essien ?? - JT - Riccy - ?? Cech If JT or Riccy is injured then I guess Alex will play. I'm not sure who should play as LB and RB. I'm not even sure who is fit. Is Bosingwa back yet? I think that whoever will play as LB against Barcelona should play today (unless Hiddink want to keep that a secret) and then whoever is left could play as RB. I want to see Mikel play and since I can't put Essien or Lampard on the bench unless Essien is tired of course, then I have to put Ballack there. I have to say that I agree with everyone about Stoch. It's strange to see how he just disappeared from the squad. When Hiddink came Mikel, Quaresma and Stoch was cast aside. Stoch might not have been brilliant when playing for Scolari, but he definitely played well enough to be on the bench and be brought on every now and then. mad_mac
Trouble is Moos, if you play Quaresma out on the right, then he is outing two players (Anelka and Kalou) as opposed to the left where he's merely outing malouda. I just don't see him figuring in Hiddink's plans
evissy
Okay it is Bosingwa on left. Hiddink has stated it. Ivanovic on the right side. Wonder what this game is like. We are trying a line-up for our next game and Spammers are eyeing a spot in Europe...
ozboy
Could be quite an open game. The players that need the rest are Lampard and Ballack and maybe Drogba. They are in the central midfield which means lots of running and are both 30 or over and have played just about every game all season. The team will play much worse without them and the decision is not costless as finishing in the top 3 in the league does matter but it is a cost that maximises the chances against Barca. We can play a central midfield of Mikel and Essien and belletti if we have to Di Santo up front with Kalou and maybe Malouda and a back four. Personally I'd prefer not to play Belleti
PloKoon13
I don't think the team will be THAT much weaker than our first XI. Maybe Cashley out in favour of whoever is being played on Tuesday, and maybe Mikel in for Essien, and maybe a swap up front, but other than that I expect very much the same from Hiddink. bjd
Team News; Cech;Man;Ivan;JT©;Bos;Bel; Mikel;Lamps;Kalou;Anelka;Malouda. Subs;Hil;A;Cole; Ess;Bal;Stoch;Di Santo;Drogs A fair few rested then. great to see MM in there - i presume he will be at right back, but i dont like the midfield (no pace) and we all know about that attacking lineup. gonna be a tough match though i reckon, still we can do it - come on boys! Mod
I'm concerned about picking up injuries in this game, we all know West Ham can be dirty! mad_mac
Hope we see Si Santo and Stoch. I am also glad to see Ivanovic in the middle with Terry, as I think that might be what we see next season! Bosingwa at LB suggests that is what we will see midweek. It isn't a abd ploy as it will mean Bossie is on his strong foot whenever Messi tries to cut inside. Plus, other than Mancienne, I think he's our quickest! Scott
