Criteria for Next Manager

Featured Replies

Ok, lets assume that Guus is true to his word and will not be with us next season.

What do we want to see in our next manager? Try and come up with 2 or 3 traits you feel would be important criteria "check" marks for the person to take the helm next season

I'll start

1. Must be able to communicate to players and press alike without use of a translator.

2. Must be able to change tactics while a game is in the balance and not wait till the 88th minute to make a sub.

3. Must be willing to use some of the 7 sub spots for Youth team players

next....

Scott

-Must be able to speak English

-Must be an excellent player manager. Look at what Guus has done with Malouda and Drogba.

-MUST have astute defensive tactics

-Should have experience and a proud record in a tough league

-Should have a history of good signings and youth discoveries

agree with you on the three you mentioned but would add..

Must be given a total control of what players come in and go out,

Must be given a couple of seasons if he is going to stamp his mark and change the style of our play (much more important if Drogba is to leave)

Must not be called Frank

has 2 speak english

needs to have managed in big leagues i.e la liga, serie a...

needs a good track record and by that i dont mean 'winning the world cup' and some sh*te brazil league

obviusly chippy hit the nail on the head with must not be called frank

Ideally has some experience of working in England, either as a player or manager or coach. If not he should bring in an assistant/coach who has. At the very least.

I agree that speaking English fluently is simpy an utter must. We cant have any translators and we cant have any 'he is taking two lessons a day' bollocks. Before we know it its November and we are 9 points behind Utd while the manager is still learning who to tell JT and Percy to pick up at corners.

We had two seasons where we looked a joke under Ranieri because of this and Scolari wasnt much better. Im just talking about the media, god knows what it was like in the dressing room.

1. Shouldn't rely overly on specific player(s) for the way the team plays.

2. Not stick to a single system of play and must have a Plan B.

3. Results should come first, not the way we play.

4. Good attacking players must be signed.

5. Must give the youth that occasional chance they deserve.

6. Make sure that the players respect his presence and keep egos at bay.

7. Good communication skills.

Two cast iron requirements.

1. Must be a proven manager in one of the major European leagues, with a record of actually winning things not simply coming close or being "a team builder".

2. Must be able to speak fluent english from the very first day of his appointment.

No more Scolari's or Ranieri's. Even though they were nice very, very nice fellows.

1. Fluent English and good communication skills.

2. Has ways to cope with big egos

3. Has a great knowledge of the game. Has some experience of coaching and used to be a player.

-to be a either a proven high quality manager or be an up and coming one with chelsea connections (i.e. franco / clarkey)

-to have a lot of ambition and clear ideas about how to take the club forward.

-to be able to sign well

-to want to play a varied style of football

-to be a manager who wants to stay for the long term (and be suited to it)

- To happily be able to switch between 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 effectively, and not with 2 minutes left.

- Who's coming to Chelsea for the reason that he believes he can take us to European glory.

You lot make me laugh, youve all forgotten THE most important criteria.

1. Roman must like him. Whats the point if he doesnt.

Well if thats the case then Van Gaal and Jose should be at the top of our lists....I'm sure we could put fat Rafa on there as well

To be tactically aware and prepared to make the neccesary changes in a match when all isnt going well, that includes defending a lead. Above all though be able to communicate his ideas to all his players.
