Shevchenko

Featured Replies

We are reportedly looking for offers for shevchenko but nobody seems too interested at the moment, this is what can happen when you put a player out onloan. If the player is young and unsettled at a club it can be a good idea to 'put him in the shop window' on loan at another club. If he does well it increases his stock and at the very least gets the loan club interested.

If the player is on the other hand coming towards the end of his career as in Sheva's case, and as had a bad first season with us the club having decided it was working we should have cut our losses there and then by selling him. Other clubs might have thought it was just a bad season and he struggled to settle in the Prem, now they think he's not the player he was and is finished, at the very least he is a year older which devalues him.

We must stop putting players out on loan, paying part of their salary and then letting them walk away for nothing....crazy.

I totally agree, Veron and Crespo went on frees after loaning them out for the remander of their contracts. Chelsea have wasted so much money over the last 5 years or so.

I see your point, but I doubt anyone wouldve given us any kind of real value for Sheva last year, either. I think it was just hoped to send him back, and maybe he would find his old form back at the San Siro.

This signing has just been a disaster all around. I would look at just buying out his contract and moving on right now

In theory we could give him another chance. If he picks up form for the reserves he might just be worth another shot.

that would just be too sad for words. Ballon d'Or to Chelsea reserves in five years

Judging by my forum name, you know im going to be biased. Shevchenko was THE best player in the world many years ago no doubt about it. His move to chelsea sadly did not work out, however in my eyes he still is one of the best strikers ever and he will still be. Wish him all the best where ever he goes and i hope he gets some sort of success again in his football career.

He floped here but he tried, family reasons.. different countries affect a player greatly and this was a prime example.

I hear you and feel the same. My favorite player in all the world is/was Michael Owen. I say was because of course its the same story as Sheva. When players aspire to those heights, it just feels wrong to see them scrounging and trying to restart their careers in disgrace. And its hard to take watching them, remembering what was and what could have been

The two of them should retire and start a restaurant together or something. "Mickey and Shevy's Trattoria"

Also, I like the fact that when Sheva was here and wasnt scoring, he was still contributing. The goal line clearance against Man Utd was a perfect example. And everytime someone scored, he would always be first in line to congratulate with a huge grin on his face

Of course, there were all those Sheva v. Jose rumors

He'll be sold to a lower league team, whether that is in England or not is another matter. Look for him playing in the SPL next season!

send him back to ukraine so he can end his career were he started it instead of making him return to become a reserve, maybe we could sell him for liek 4 mil or something, it might not be much but its still something or just send him on loan and pay of his last year, just let him keep his dignity and not bee in the reserves

Owen's at least still worthwhile. His scoring rate at Newcastle isn't vintage Owen but it's not as disgraceful as Shevchenko's performance for us. And in Owen's case, injuries were a much bigger reason for his "downfall".

Owen's at least still worthwhile.

No. No he's not. He's made of glass and isn't(anymore) the kind of quality we should be going for anyway. The fact that he's playing for Newcastle should be a big enough clue.

owen was never the quality. built his massively overrated career on the back of a good goal against argentina

it's an insult to sheva to mention them in the same breath

Not sure about it being an insult. Both of them seem to have lost the thing that once made them great, but if you look at Sheva's career and compare it to Owen's, Sheva has had a lot more successful career than Owen.

Luton ?

The entire transfer was a joke from start to finish.

Signing a player the manager didn't want but the chairman did, the rift between them that insued, the departure of the manager who won 6 trophies in 5 years. Then loaning him back to the club we paid 30m for his services.

After the Veron and Crespo debacle, the people of Milan must think Roman is their sugar daddy!!

The entire affair has made the club look ridiculous, especially after not learning our lessons with the 2 Argentinians.

Only target players the manager wants should be the lesson learned, but I doubt it has!

He'll be back for pre season and then his future will be decided. Hopefully he can find some form. He's been in good form for Ukraine during the qualifiers

I disagree

Shevchenko was a better player, and was more skilled to be sure, but Owen's career was just more than one good goal against Argentina. 40 International goals and 118 in 216 for the dippers is like Inzaghi calibre poaching.

I think the Argentina goal just highlighted what could have been. He burned out too bright and too soon, but there was one time when he looked set to become a legend of the game

Shevchenko: I want to stay a Blue

Striker Andriy Shevchenko wants to honour his contract with Chelsea and will report for pre-season training with the Blues on July 9.

The Ukraine forward, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan, has one year left on his contract with the Premier League outfit - and intends to see it out.

"On July 9 I will join Chelsea in pre-season training," said Shevchenko to Corriere dello Sport.

"Then we will see what happens."

The 32-year-old hopes the arrival of former Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea will allow him to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge.

"I have spoken to the coach who has given me an appointment for pre-season training," he said.

"I have one year left on my contract with Chelsea and I intend to respect it and honour it in the best possible way."

Shevchenko's second spell at Milan proved unsuccessful with the striker scoring twice in nine starts for the Rossoneri last term.

Serie A club Roma are reportedly keen to acquire Shevchenko's services but the player insists his priority is to stay at Chelsea.

"If there was a concrete offer then I would evaluate it together with Chelsea," said Shevchenko.

"If it will not be possible to continue my career at Chelsea then I will look at other options.

"I consider (Roma coach Luciano) Spalletti a great coach, serious and prepared.

"He is able to bring out the best of his players. When I met him there was a good feeling between us."

I'll always remember against Man City at the Bridge in 07 (6-0 game) when someone right behind the goal had a Ukraine flag they were waving around. Sheva noticed it after he scored his goal and gave him his jersey after the game. Always liked that.

I almost wish we had subbed him in and he had taken the 5th PK in Moscow....he makes it and he's a hero, he misses it and he's just a bigger flop and JT is unscathed (but obviously hindsight is 20/20 and this is just me rambling).

Looks like he's being offered a way out...................

Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv are hoping to bring former son Andriy Shevchenko back to the club, and have reportedly made an offer for the striker's services, tabled to parent club Chelsea, where the 32-year-old is currently behind fellow strikers Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba in the pecking order.

Kyiv's new manager Valery Gazzaev has already spoken of his excitement at tempting the out-of-favour forward into a return to his homeland, after a series of underwhelming seasons where he has underachieved at both Chelsea, and also an underwhelming return loan spell with former club AC Milan.

Kyiv club president Igor Surkis confirmed the club's concrete interest to The Daily Mail, "We are interested in Shevchenko. An offer has been made. We are waiting for a response.

"My heart and soul is open to him. Gazzaev has no objection to him joining the team. Andriy has to decide where he and his family would be comfortable," he concluded.

Shevchenko will be familiar with Chelsea's new boss Carlo Ancelotti, having worked with him for many seasons at Milan, but it is widely believed that he is not a part of Ancelotti's plans at the Blues and will be allowed to leave should a reasonable offer be received.
