British Football Team

Featured Replies

I don't know why this country has such problems when it comes to competing as a country in sports. Remember when they tried to do this for the Olympics? South Africa managed to win the rugby world cup in 1995 with both black and white players in the Springbok jersey in the wake of Apartheid and we can't get England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to play a game of football together? Anyway, I thought it'd be fun if we came up with a hypothetical British starting 11 or world cup squad and how well you'd think they'd do. :D

Gordon/Hart

Johnson - Bale - Terry - Cole

Gerrard - Fletcher - Ramsey - Lampard

Rooney - Bellamy

Though I have to admit my knowledge of players outside the EPL, La Liga and Serie A is limited.

--------------Gordon

Johnson---King---JT---Cole

------------Fletcher

Lennon---Lampard---Ramsey

-----Rooney------Bellamy

Basically your team, with two differences. It sucks how only one Welshman would make it, but Ramsey is the best Welsh player we've had in years (Giggs doesn't count, he doesn't even like to be called Welsh anymore).

eh?

Asked about the prospect of a sensational return for Wales, Giggs said: 'It is something that I would have to talk about with John and Sir Alex Ferguson. But, at this stage, I wouldn't dismiss the idea.

'If I had that call from John I would have to think hard about it. I would properly consider the idea. I wouldn't rule it out.'

In other words, "I'd love to be still playing for Wales, but old red nose won't allow it."

And who is this Bale Castiel selected at CB? Any relation to the Spuds attacking midfielder who failed to make the grade as a full back?

I don't recall Giggs kicking up too much of a fuss about 'not being allowed' to play in one international friendly after another after another.

Bale at CB also puzzled me.

As for Ruh Buh Juh trying to deny Bellamy is Welsh - well sorry mate but we English don't want him so you're stuck with him!

I don't recall Giggs kicking up too much of a fuss about 'not being allowed' to play in one international friendly after another after another.

I think the ever smiling, jovial figure of old red nose ("I just love my players playing internationals") might have had something to do with that. And the fact that Giggs hasn't ever been one for throwing his toys out to get his own way.

And the length of Giggs' playing career will give Fergie every justification for restricting his players' international games in what's left of his reign at OT. Remember, Giggs was always very injury prone in his younger days, with dodgy hamstrings. He averages under 30 league games a season, although that's not bad seeing as he's just finished his 20th.

Personally I have no time for players who like to pick and choose the games they will play for their country (whether that choice is manager influenced or not). Just as England fans should turn their back on Jamie 'I will play for England because it is a World Cup and because Liverpool are not in the CL next season' Carragher I feel the Wales fans should have turned their back on Giggs years ago.

My guess is they might have done if it wasn't for the fact he was such a key player.

Fans.....what a fickle bunch they are! :D

Okay, maybe I did exaggerate that slightly, but still, you have to wonder why Fergie didn't let Giggs play for Wales, but Rooney/Ferdinand/Fletcher/Nani/Evra etc all play for their countries.

If only 1 Welshman can make it, why are there 2 in your starting line-up?

1.

Gordon

Whittaker - Jagielka - Terry - A.Cole

Lennon - Lampard - Fletcher - Bale

Rooney - Boyd

2.

Hart

Shawcross - Dawson - Upson - Warnock

A.Johnson - Ramsey - Parker - J.Cole

Miller - Bellamy

I've honestly not heard of quite a few of those! Whittaker, Miller, Boyd... good then?

(quite embarrassing as I do take a big interest in football and quite often other leagues too, but I guess it shows I don't know anything about the SPL unfortunately)

Come on admit it, you put miller and Boyd in for a bet didnt you.

Miller & Boyd are a bloody sight better than Heskey & Crouch ::ChELSeAFaN::

Touche old chap, Touche...

Capello favours a 4-2-3-1 formartion with the lone striker.
