I'm sure some people here will hyperventilate when I say this but I really haven't been impressed with Ivanovic today.

Nor his team for that matter.

serbia have a good group of players but they didn't impress at al really.

ivanovic had to get forward more than they did. krasic was doubled up on and he got no support (which is odd for ivanovic).

I expected serbia to go through and have £3 on no african qualification so nauturally I am fuming.

kuzmanovic; worse than hitler and only slightly better than loz.

When Serbia actually started to press forward, after the sending off, they did look as good as I was expecting them to be, but for some reason they couldn't do it with 11 men on the pitch. Hopefully they beat Germany and still get through, I want to see them do well this year. I think a 4-5-1 would have suited them more though, they just seemed to lack presence in midfield, and their strikers lacked movement. I'm not all that excited by the way they played, I want to see them improve.

Can't be arsed watching Germany vs Australia, which means it'll be a good game, but I'm gonna go kill some virtual people to deal with my anger issues.

I want to see a demolition today, probably of Australia by Germany.

You're getting your wish, Germany look clinical and quite capable of a Wigan-esque trashing of the Aussies. In another league to England from what I've seen so far.

My ears are literally starting to ache as I have to listen to this f**kING VUVUZELA BUZZING.

I have to watch it on mute. It's too much. Ruining the world cup experience for me.

Germany look fantastic. Able to maintain possession, pass the ball effectively and actually create scoring chances. Every other team so far was only really able to get a lot of scoring chances on a counter attack. Podolski and Klose are up to their usual world cup tricks plus Ozil, Mueller, Lahm, etc are all playing very well.

I do think Australia are a very weak side in fairness.

The Germans look very impressive, albeit against the Aussies who are a bit out of sorts today.

Their passing, posession, and through balls have all been very good. I do think that their preference for zonal marking from corners will be their downfall against a better team.

Cahill's sending off was farcical. He'd realized he was coming in late, and pulled back...yellow at the most

Cahill's red card was a terrible decision but in all honesty the result was about right irrespective of the sending off (though clearly unfair that Cahill will now miss game(s).

according to Jim Beglin, I think it was, the Australian supporters continued to get behind their team even when they were well beaten. so why don't ITV move their microphones? because all i could hear was that damned RACKET. horrible bloody things.

anyway. Germany looked good but that was one of the most blatantly wrong sending offs i'v ever seen. cahill's tackle was a booking at most, and even that would have been harsh. at 2-0 Gernany were already well on top, but there was still a remote possibility that Australia might snatch a goal and make a contest ot it. with cahill gone, that possibility was ended and the only surprise was that it took Germany so long to get their third.

Apparently there's a chance they might ban vuvuzela's from the World Cup stadiums. I heard the French have made an official complaint about the noise.

germany look good, but this australia side were never going to offer much resistance. mertesacker and freidreich could be exposed at some stage, possibly against a side that start a striker of some sort.

today's conclusion therefore:

germany: same kind of side they have been since klinsmann in 2006.

australia: not roma, start a striker next time.

Cahill's red card was a terrible decision

Cahill tackled from behind with no chance of winning the ball. It would have been worthy of a booking even if he hadn't be so late with the tackle, but because he was so late with his lunge, I think the red card was justified.

Extremely impressed by the germans. They outplayed Australia and the result was fair.

But I have to say that Australia was a bit unlucky that the ref got two major decisions wrong. First they should have had a penalty (could have made it 1-2 there) and the sending off was all wrong. Yellow card perhaps, but certainly not a red.

Germany was much better though. Could go far. And talk about an interesting new generation comming now. Players like Marin, Oezil, Kroos and Boateng can go really far. Germany will have a good team for years to come.

Too bad Ballack couldn't be in the pitch as well.

Miserable morning over here. 7AM and I've been forced to not only sit through a destruction by Germany, but also the unfortunate spectacles that were Slovenia vs Algeria and Ghana vs Serbia.

Agree with the fact that we deserved to lose. Matter a fact we probably deserved to lose 4-0. But for f**ks sake, how can these people ignore a blatant pen and then send off a player for a challenge that was barely a yellow.

I wonder this every Champions League but there have got to be thousands of football referees in the world how can they not find 20 decent ones to avoid screw ups that essentially mean we are no chance of qualifying. As I said we deserved nothing but a whipping tonight, but to rule Cahill out for the next game is disgraceful. Hopefully we can get the card overturned.

Word of warning to England, You better finish first. Comparing the way England played last night with the way Germany played tonight and Capello won't even match up to Sven if you face them in the second round.

Agree on this point. This is supposed to be the ultimate football tournament and yet it used as an opportunity for inclusion rather than ensuring the chosen officials are the best in their profession. The ref in the England game yesterday was actually suspended by his own association for incompetence yet here he is refereeing at the world cup - utterly farcical (note I am not saying he actually had a bad game yesterday as I don't think he did - just that he shouldn't be there in the first place)

Look the penalty I can get over, we didn't deserve to be 2-1 at that point. But honestly the red card was absurd. It reminded me alot of the card on Lamps against Alonso at Anfield two years ago, (given this was a worse challenge than that.) The player goes to ground rolls around and then the referee overreacts.

As I said I've no issue with losing, I'm Australian and I know that comes with a reputation for thinking we are the best at every sport ever, but honestly the red card now influences a game that matters against Ghana. It was a silly foul by Cahill but it was never a red card. Never.

Loz this is a perfect illustration of your point. Five years ago, Luis Medina Cantelejo refereed our playoff match against Uruguay. He was terrible he gave over 50 fouls in what was certainly not a dirty game, killing the match as a spectacle. Low and behold six months later he turns up and gives a ridiculous penalty in our second round game against Italy. A decision for which Sep Blatter apologises to Australia. Then he is given the Brazil vs France Quarter Final the next week. Finally the year after, he awards Russia a penalty for a Rooney foul outside the box in a game that ultimately costs England qualification for Euro2008. Despite this he is still in the boxseat for high profile Champions League games, and UEFA comes out and says he would have been awarded the Champions League final between Barca and Man Utd in 2009 had a Spanish team not been present, so they give him the UEFA Cup final instead.

I'm in an exceptionally bad mood but honestly sometimes these appointments make me wonder.

I think the last time the Wallabies met Germany the scoreline was 108-0. :laugh2:

I do agree with your point. Certainly not a red card in my opinion.
