Zola's Love Child Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Just come through on BBC Sport...more to follow I assume. Looks like the sell sell sell attitude finally pissed him off enough!
BLUENUT Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Just come through on BBC Sport...more to follow I assume. Looks like the sell sell sell attitude finally pissed him off enough! He could have swapped Milner for Ireland and been done with it, and £30 better off! Sven / Martin Jol are about the only 2 names that spring to mind!?!
bluemoon Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I will be the first to say it. It's all our fault...
Bez Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) Has to be about the sales, it's what Ashley Young to Tottenham and Milner to City? I wonder who will take over..Sven is open for talks! Edited August 9, 2010 by J.C.B
Gem Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Typical O'Niel - woe is me. Villa don't deserve that treatment. He knew the score with regards to transfers, leaving a few days before the start of the season is selfish.

This is what I heard too. Apparently he wanted to push on and build to get Villa in the top four, but Lerner wanted to sell Young and O'Neill wasn't allowed to spend the Milner money. Maybe they're planning on vacating the England job and O'Neill was interested. ^___^
cfckeane Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Aston Villa could be in trouble now, losing their accomplished manager and possibly a few key players just before the start of the season? West Ham at home on Saturday should be interesting.
PloKoon13 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Also - gutted for Liverpool. Missed out on O'Neill by a couple of months. He would have fit in perfectly as well, being a c**t and looking like a rat and all.

TheWestwayWonder Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Never understood the hatred for O'Neill, but i suspect its because of the Celtic connection. I always liked the guy and respected what he has accomplished especially with Villa, despite his dour attitude. People will always point to him spending alot on some pretty so-so players, but given what he inherited, to be able to point to the record of competitive seasons he has had is pretty impressive in my view. Until further details come out, I dont know why we can jump to the assumption he is jumping ship becuase of selling Milner. That deal has been in the works for months. But if there are rumors of Ashley Young to Spurs then that may have clinched it. And this is a guy who has put his personal life before football before, so it could be anything.

Spot on Gem sums him up for me ..................and to think a lot of people wanted him as an England manager.

I always liked the guy and respected what he has accomplished especially with Villa, despite his dour attitude. There's quite a few of us who hate him from back in his playing days in the 70's, he was a whining, whinging, mouthy c*nt back then and he's got worse as he's got older Also - gutted for Liverpool. Missed out on O'Neill by a couple of months. He would have fit in perfectly as well, being a c**t and looking like a rat and all. Couldn't have put it better myself :D
Andreas Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 too bad Hughes ended up at Fulham, could of been the perfect job for him to manage Villa. Who will be O'Neills replacement?

This hatred for O'Neill is unbelievable. Villa have become a selling club e.g. Barry, Milner, Ashley Young. I understand where O'Neill is coming from. It obviously became frustrating for him. Can you imagine the reaction of Ancelotti and Chelsea fans if our club sold Lamps, Malouda and Ashley Cole?
loz Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I think people need to have a look at the transfers in before starting to feel sorry for O'Neill and calling VIlla a selling club. He has not been short changed by the owners and has spent a lot of money on players that he doesn't even play.
Randy36 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) I don't feel sorry fror Martin O'Neiil. But I believe I understand where he's coming from. Milner leaving must have been hard to swallow. And the potential loss of Young was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back. With the exception of Dunne I can't recall a positive transfer. It looks as if the owners gave him nothing to work with. I believe he was pushed into selling his best players without being given the opportunity to replace them. Under such circumstances he had every right to resign. Villa will feel his loss. Perhaps there is something else going on behind the scenes I'm not aware of. Edited August 9, 2010 by Randy36

He has not been short changed by the owners and has spent a lot of money on players that he doesn't even play. Just off the top of my head he has signed Heskey, Curtis Davis, Sidwell, Beye, Shorey, Luke Young and Delph who barely played for him last year and must have cost more than £30 mill between them.
loz Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Add to that the £8m or so he spent on Reo Coker to be a player who oscillated between beng back up and first team. Then there are the players he was given money to buy who are in the first team such as Milner, Young, Cuellar, Downing, Dunne etc. He hasn't been short changed by any means and they are still playing fairly dire football.
Liam Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Typical O'Niel - woe is me. Villa don't deserve that treatment. He knew the score with regards to transfers, leaving a few days before the start of the season is selfish. I'd go along with that too. It's always about Martin.
liamski Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Probably the best irish manager we've ever seen , and good luck to him . Someone will get a good honest manager in Martin O'Neill .
Zola's Love Child Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 He could have swapped Milner for Ireland and been done with it, and £30 better off! Sven / Martin Jol are about the only 2 names that spring to mind!?! After the Fulham debacle, I can't see Randy handing over the money to get Jol released. Sven would be a huge step backwards, they might as well get Zola - at least he has recent Premier League experientce!
Randy36 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Martin O'Neill was the best thing to happen to Villa. He converted it to a top six club for the last few seasons. It will be difficult to replace him. I find it hard to understand why people complain about him and his record at Villa. Managers such as O'Neill and Moyes are financially strapped by a club such as Man City which throws silly money around. O'Neill signed Richard Dunne for 6 million quid which was smart business. We don't really know why he resigned. Perhaps a reaction to restraints placed on him which he interpreted as preventing further progress. Until we find out why he left it's difficult to make an informed judgement.

Until we find out why he left it's difficult to make an informed judgement. People DON'T complain about his record at Villa. Well, other than Villa fans a bit. I, and many others, find the man himself to be an odious, mouthy twat who always has an excuse for his failings and the failings of his teams. As BB said, he was always a c**t when he was a player, he has got worse as he has become more high profile, and I don't think he has actually done that well at Villa, anyway.
Zola Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Dont find him all that mouthy to be honest. Not sure where that came from? He is not like Fergie, Wenger etc..doesnt make excuses when he got beat.
