MOTM vs Spartak Moscow

Ivan would be the obvious choice but I have gone for Mikel who I think had a superb game and banished the memory of his performance last weekend to history.

Mikel for me as well. Absolutely excellent in mopping up their midfield surges, and had a range of passing which you'd never have dreamt of seeing from Maka.

I thought the entire back four were great too (Ivan's slip aside), and am very happy that Paulo got to don the armband.

Getting a bot bored of voting for Mikel now, but I have again. Controlled the first half and was superb all game. Closely followed by Ivan and Nico who both played really well. Also well done Ramires, had a fairly poor 1st half but was everywhere in the 2nd, really put himself about and had an influence.

went for 5 goal--Bran, excellent throughout (1 small lapse when game over), closely followed by Nico. Thought Obi was assured against a mediocre midfield,also (1st half Yuri) & special word for Paulo, who i thought was excellent and shows how good a squad player he is... nice to see him as captain for last 20 or so as well..

getting excited everytime i see Josh on the field, great composure for such a young kid and the senior players seem to have full confidence in him..

Anelka for me, great movement composure and seems to beat his man anytime he wants to get a shot off, Ivan and Mikel very close behind.

Have to be Mikel once again. Has he even played one game this season without one of the contenders for the MOTM award? Incredible player, and by a clear mile my player of the year so far. Ivanovic very solid aswell, but one slight mistake that could mean elimination if he does that in the knockout-stages. Kalou and Anelka very good aswell while Drogba is in poor form at the moment. He did score and can do marvelous thinks when he is motivated but it seems to me like he lacks something at the moment. Great play to win the penalty though. Ramires very solid in the second half aswell.

quite a few, especially on Saturday when he was shocking. In general he is having a great start to the season though.

I chose Mikel too. He is having a fantastic season.

No one really stood out for though. That isn't an insult, just that everyone played pretty well. Ivan and Anelka would be my next two.

Zhirkov -great movement and link-up play.

Ivanovic solid in defence and lethal in attack.

Good determination from Ferreira.

Mikel - very reliable in the middle

Kalou - dangerous.

Kids did well.

But, my man of the match is Anelka. His goal broke Spartak and changed the game.

Mikel for me, he's really matured into a brilliant defensive midfielder and is probably now one of our better first teamers. Barely misplaced a pass and bar one rash challenge was faultless.

Looks like Ivan isn't getting the credit because of that one lapse. Anelka was good, but not that good i thought.

seemed to me they were thinking about the liverpool game in the first half,much better second half though,some good performances especially from some who dont usually fill me with confidence(ferreira,and kalou),although kalou,s finishing was awful today.good to see the youngsters get on.
