Actually there is a considerable amount of evidence to say that players improve performance and fitness during Ramadan including increased energy and concentration and reduced mental fatigue. The moderating factor of course is the water intake but I believe there are exceptions to the rule.

The problems occur as the body adapts to Ramadan and again to the "normal" eating cycle.

i have yet to see a scientific article that says ramadan improves your mental and physical performance, if youve find one id like to see it. not eating and drinking throughout the day just messes up too many thing

Still hopefull that we will get Mata/Hazard and Modric, maybe im just being deluded but surely we need one or two "proven" signings if we want to challenge on all fronts this season.

We've bought 2 belgians, and have another on the way most likely... I think we wouldn't have gone down this route if we weren't after the most talented Belgian footballer out there right now, I could of course be wrong.

Chelsea ready to hijack Man Utd bid for Sneijder

It looked like the Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was going to get a clear run on taking the Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford as his replacement for Paul Scholes, but it is being reported today that Chelsea are set to begin talks with the Italian giants this week.

Guus Hiddink has asked Roman Abramovich to get Sneijder to Chelsea for next season, and it is being reported that his representatives are on their way to Italy with an opening bid of £30m to persuade Inter to let him go to Stamford Bridge.

Italian reports indicate that both Sneijder and his model wife Yolanthe would much prefer to settle in London than Manchester so she can further her modelling and acting career, and she would certainly be an excellent addition to the Chelsea WAGs.

But it is thought that Alex Ferguson will not give up without a fight and is expected to put in a counter-bid as soon as Chelsea’s talks are concluded, and even if he isn’t successful he can certainly hope to make Chelsea spend more on securing Hiddink’s favourite target.

Having said that, I wouldn't give the story any credit. As is usual with this kind of thing, it includes no quotes, mentions that "sources indicate" and so on. My guess is that it's this kind of recycled crap is the basis for the twitter quotes referred to earlier.

Edit: there's a similar story in Metro dated June 2011 that also mentions Hiddink. As I was saying, recycled rubbish.
