This is exactly what people should think about when mocking a transfer like Torres'. I bet his shirts are sold the most from our team. It doesn't matter if the fee is 20mill or 50mill if his shirts are sold for 100mill in the next 3 years or so. Player like Bosingwa for example will not be making such numbers so if his fee was close to 20mill buying Torres was a bargain.

Of course. Didn't think that through before I posted, but in any case, those sales are at that point were quite phenomenal, though.

The real value of a player from my understanding is in the wages. Which is why Modric is worth so much to Spurs. He is on nothing, where a player who would be bought in to replace him of anywhere near his ability would be worth at least twice as much as they are paying him. Even with a huge transfer fee, a player to replace Modric in terms of wages and the fee would probably go well in excess of a 30m offer for example.

At the same time if a player doesn't try his wages won't matter.

After tracking all these targets till the end of the window and not being able to sign anyone, if we pay a lot of money to buy Pjanic on the deadline day, will it be called a Pjanic buy?

Well put, and another reasion my Modric's agent is a total fool. Your client is a youngish up and coming player on a team who yo-yos in and out of Europe, and can easily finish outside the top six. So you go and get him a SIX YEAR contract when he is 24 years old? Madness.

Lavezzi would be a terrible buy for that kind of money. We'd be paying 17m + Kalou for an Argentine version of Kalou who is more prone to going missing and picking red cards.
