August 5, 201114 yr We ought to sign Jesus Christ, he looks great on crosses, is due a comeback and ought to annoy the y*ds!
August 5, 201114 yr IMO Kaka at the right price would be great Ok, hes not as fast as he once was but hes still one of the most creative players in the world and could be a good for a few years
August 5, 201114 yr And see, you were doing so well up until that point - then you went and shot yourself in the foot, big time! Adam was worth £8 plus some knocked off shell-suits, Modric is probably worth a bit more than that, but not much! Except that Charlie Adam (and all the names above Modric) play far higher up the pitch than Modric.

Adam was worth £8 plus some knocked off shell-suits, Modric is probably worth a bit more than that, but not much! I see where you're coming from, but I was attempting to dispel this suggestion that Modric wasn't creative enough. Adam being regarded as pretty creative, I was just comparing his numbers to Modric's to show there wasn't really much difference. Modric trounces Adam in other areas, notably his passing completion rate, Adam has the reputation for spraying it around but Modric puts in his share of long passes and has an 87% completion rate, compared to Adam's 72% which is schoolboy in comparison. Plus Modric is a better defender with a higher interception rate and giving away approximately a quarter of the fouls. That is not to mention the other unquantifiable things like movement off the ball. It also should be mentioned that Liverpool bought Adam from Blackpool who have been relegated and needed the cash where we are trying to buy Modric from a top 6 team with plenty of cash and an ambition to push on further.
August 6, 201114 yr Not a rumour, but whenever I watch Rossi I always think he could be like a Zola type figure for us. I don't understand why we don't look at him as a different option to Neymar.
August 6, 201114 yr Marin is a bit all flash, no end product. His final ball is horrid and his finishing is more Mikel-esque than Kalou-esque.
August 6, 201114 yr Anelka targeted by psg for £7m. http://www.fanatix.com/news/chelsea-striker-targeted-by-big-spending-psg-969/ That would be even better then getting 12m+ for zhirkov. With lukaku bought as replacment someone up front has to go and anelka is on the bottom of my list. This would also enable us to strengthen midfield either in wide or center (creative),

August 7, 201114 yr As the Modric thread is closed I`ll add this lovely little titbit into here. The rumour goes City, or more exactly their owner, has agreed a deal with Real Madrid and Aguero that see`s the player go to City this season but move to Madrid next summer as thats where the player really wants to go but Atletico wouldnt allow it. Now if true I think we may well have been in a similar position and ended up with a player who didnt really want to be in England, and would have been angling for a move to Madrid as soon as possible. Bullet dodged perhaps?
August 7, 201114 yr Whoops, meant to say "Aguero Thread" but cant edit it. Is this a bug mod or just something not implemented yet?

Bullet dodged perhaps? If the rumour turns out to be true, then we definitely dodged a bullet. The deals with the buy back clause are bad enough, but to work as a middle man for another club to help them sign a player that they would not be able to buy otherwise would be just sad.

But didn't the Aguero deal include something that said that City would have to pay Atletico quite a lot of money if City sold him to Real Madrid after a few seasons or something?
August 7, 201114 yr But didn't the Aguero deal include something that said that City would have to pay Atletico quite a lot of money if City sold him to Real Madrid after a few seasons or something? I thought it was that he can't be transferred to RM for at least 2 years? Either way it somewhat reduces that rumors credibility ! Edited August 7, 201114 yr by bjd
August 7, 201114 yr I think there is a clause in their along those lines, though I`m not sure what the amount is. But Im pretty confident its an amount both City and Madrid could afford.
August 7, 201114 yr Fake Ron Gourlay's twitter saying we're signing Ribery and Kroos... can't see this move happening in a million years tbf.
August 8, 201114 yr Ganso green-light.Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has revealed that he will not stop midfielder Ganso leaving the club and Chelsea are lining up a bid, Lancenet reports. The Blues are looking for a midfielder to provide some creativity to their side if they cannot agree a deal for Luka Modric and the 21-year-old Ganso fits the bill for new manager Andre Villas-Boas. Chelsea face competition from a number of clubs across Europe including last season’s Premier League champions Manchester United and Italian giants AC Milan. Ribeiro spoke last week about Ganso’s availability and will not stand in the Brazilian’s way. The Santos president said: ‘He has already told me he wants to stay at Santos, to play in the Club World Cup at the end of the year. But if he wants to leave Santos, we will not have any objections to that. We have to respect the player’s wish. He has his dreams, his ambitions’. Ganso’s Santos teammate Neymar could also follow him out of the club, but could be open to a move in January. Chelsea are still interested in Neymar and could look into the possibility of bringing both Santos players to Stamford Bridge. LINK "Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has revealed .... " deja vu anyone?
August 8, 201114 yr It seems that Ganso has quashed anything pretty quickly. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/941208/ganso:-i-guarantee-i-will-not-leave-santos-yet?cc=3436
August 8, 201114 yr http://www.fanatix.com/news/chelsea-on-red-alert-after-danish-starlet-rejects-man-city-555/ Christian Eriksen(19) is rumoured to be on AVB radar, wich I think is a far better option then 30m+ for modric/snejder. The 19 year old attacking midfielder was named the dutch football talent of the year recently and is a starter for both ajax and denmark national team. His favoured position is as a number 10 which is becoming a rarity in European football. But in the Eredivisie most teams use a playmaker. It is one of the reasons he would prefer to stay in Holland as he says "Arsenal are the only English club that use a number 10", wich would now include chelsea (avb uses dm, 8 and 10 midfielders). Ajax manager Martin Jol compared him to the likes of Ajax youth products Westley Sneijder and Rafael Van Der Vaart and described him as a good reader of the game in the traditional "number 10" role like the two Dutch internationals and Danish legend Michael Laudrup, who also played for Ajax Eriksen wouldnt be competing with Josh M. over the number 8 spot like modric would, wich I think is the ideal position for Josh in the near future. We would then have Romeou(20) DM, Josh(18) Box to Box , Eriksen (19) Attacking midfielder/playmaker, that would be a great central midfield for several years without having to breakup their dynamic halfway through with modric/sneijder departing. Here is Eriksen in action against the best engalnd can offer: Longer version of his skills : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BA9oSsozEQ AVB buy now before he goes to real madrid/barcelona next year or worth 40mil+! Alot better then giving spuds 30 mil+ or paying insane wages for both modric and sneijder.
August 8, 201114 yr Had a look at the replay of Ajax's game this afternoon. He missed a pen but was generally good and got an assist as well. I agree about him not being in Josh's way, but I think that midfield is one area where we need a player right now. Whether or not Ericksen can step up straight away I don't know. Also I think he has said in the past he wouldn't come here, because of the experience of other young players not getting much gametime.
August 8, 201114 yr ‘If I got an offer from Liverpool now, I would reject it. If I did move, it would have to be Barcelona.’ Like the first part. Not so much the second. Also his father has claimed he won't move to England. Ah, screw him!

When he can shine against england, wich is shown in the first video, he is ready for premier leauge. AVB just need to convince him that we only have benayoun competing against him for that 10 spot and with all the competition we are in there is more then enough gametime for everyone. Him wanting to go to barcelona is maybe the biggest contradiction when it comes to gametime :).
August 8, 201114 yr I'm pretty sure Pereira's been mentioned before, and also that the following is a case of the Mail putting 2+2 together to make 5. Or maybe it's an attempt to recycle the recent "Chelsea lose out to PSG" type headlines. I wouldn't take too much notice of the "Milan chase Drogba" story tagged on at the end either: Chelsea fight PSG for £25m Porto wing back Pereira as replacement for Zhirkov Chelsea are facing a battle with big-spending Paris Saint-Germain over Porto wing back Alvaro Pereira. Manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bring in a replacement for Yuri Zhirkov, who joined Anzhi Makhachkala last week for £13million and wants Uruguay international Pereira. The 25-year-old was a regular under Villas-Boas at Porto, where he is a firm favourite, but that is reflected in the asking price with the player having a £25million buy-out clause. Liverpool enquired about Pereira after his impressive displays at the Copa America, but were put off by the £15million asking price. Chelsea would be willing to do business at that figure but PSG's interest allows Porto to auction the player to the highest bidder. Pereira, with more than 30 international caps, has an eye for goal, scoring twice during the Copa America, but is equally adept at playing left back as he is as a left-sided midfielder. Meanwhile, AC Milan are again considering a move for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. The 33-year-old, however, is hoping to sign a contract extension that will tie him to Stamford Bridge until 2013.
