April 27, 201610 yr right heres some more when we were a nobody club with no fans ..can we have a campaign to bring back the all blue and yellow socks back ....my all time fav kit,,,, remember putting it on in the area were I was in the early seventies in the leeds heartland of Yorkshire lol.... I painted my subbuteo team with that kit.
April 28, 201610 yr The shame was that most of the maverick type players didn't get the international recognition they deserved by FA. Who frowned at their lifestyles in preference for the steadier type of player. I'd hazard a guess that even Georgie if he had been English would have been overlooked. Same could be said of the greatest English manager. Gazza is a good shout for the last great English entertainer. If I remember correctly Alf Ramsey had a dislike to maverick type players. Hudson only played twice for England I think. Would have been interesting to see how England would have fared if more maverick players had been picked.

April 28, 201610 yr Good pic. Was it taken on the little terrace next to the east stand. Never really got used, was it for o a p s?
April 29, 201610 yr Chopper, Charlie and Bason the only players not sporting conspicuously 70's style barnets! Also note Bonetti's hobby, caravanning. A world away from the junkets to Dubai commonplace among footballers these days. A further amusing titbit regarding Peter Bonetti and caravans, queue a bit of classic Monty Python. Speaking of Peter's caravan... look, Peter's caravan! Chopper's son clearly not impressed with his dad's rather dapper Chelsea holdall. Finally, a young Luca Vialli no doubt dreaming of SW6. If my memory is any good only 6 of that squad came from another club, Dempsey - Fulham, Droy - Slough, Hinton - Charlton, Garner - Southend, Cooke - East Fife and Hutchinson - Cambridge, and at least 10 of those who came up through the South East Counties League went on to play a regular part in the 77 promotion team. If only the club had a little more sense with regards Eddie McReadie we may well have avoided all the misery that we went through from 78 onwards, can't imagine we'd have fared as badly as we did for the next 5 or 6 seasons if we'd held on to Ray Wilkins, Kenny Swain, Garry Stanley, Steve Wicks and Steve Finnieston as it was a pretty good team when you consider that with the exception of Bill Garner they'd cost pennies. Nice to see a picture taken within 500 yards of the house I grew up in as well.
May 4, 201610 yr Great picture there Garry, i remember watching Blue Peter when i was a kid & they had a piece on Chelsea fans ect the game was v Southampton possibly the 2nd leg, i cant remember who the presenter was but he was stood on the shed terrace doing his report, i've emailed both the bbc & Blue Peter in the past about it but to no avail. May 4, 201610 yr Author Was Peter Duncan mate...i remember it well Ive never seen it since mate have you? i'd love to have a copy of it.
May 4, 201610 yr I remember watching it as well. Strange to have football on Blue Peter, don't know the reason for the report and can't remember if they were allowed to show the goals. I was at the game and think it went into extra time. Steve Francis aged 17 played in the game at the dell and I think Borota was in goal at the Bridge.
May 5, 201610 yr Don't know in which year the photo was taken but it looks like the players are warming up before kick-off.
May 5, 201610 yr I seem to remember Peter Duncan is a CFC fan as he was born locally ,i maybe miles off the truth but somewhere in me is telling me that (useless) fact
May 5, 201610 yr Remember Xmas edition of blue peter and peter Duncan opened his present and it was a Chelsea scarf, co presenter simon groom got a derby county mug, on a side note, I fancied sarah green the other presenter on blue peter, mind you most of us boys did at school.

May 5, 201610 yr I was there, I remember the shed singing "it's f***ing hot in here"......more than 27000 there that night (big turn out for us back then). And we won!!
May 6, 201610 yr Ive never seen it since mate have you? i'd love to have a copy of it. Not since the day....and I've searched for it ☺

May 7, 201610 yr Boyne: That picture of The Bridge. Think it was taken at the 1921 FA Cup Final held at The Bridge. The attendance that day was 72,805. Not as good as the 77,952 which were at The Bridge to ser us play Swindon in an early round of the FA Cup in 1911. Not a bad crowd as we don't have any history, according to some...

Excellent crowds. As you say, not bad for a club which, according to some, lacks history.
May 8, 201610 yr Bluebosnian: Think that 1915 FA Cup Final was known as ' The Khaki Cup Final ' due to the vast numbers wearing army khaki attending it.
