One not so nice fact about the pic above where i stood for the first time is...I was 12...I was hanging over the metal looking down at the fans slowly coming in and up the stairs to the t bar area....I was bored as i was, and  i would be for  that year,in as soon as the turntiles opened and liked to lose myself in the space that was cfc. I remember doing the most rediculous thing  of dropping a small spit to see who i could hit on the head from above.....Yep.. Sorry to anyone i may have hit

Erskblue, the pictures of the game against Moscow Dynamo are brilliant. 100,000 in the ground according to estimates. I guy I know was at game. He bunked off school as the game was on a Tuesday afternoon. As you say, no Health and Safety then. Given what people in both the armed services and as civilians had gone through in the previous six years, climbing up to the roofs of the Shed End and old East Stand were probably child's play.

That is great.

 

Loved wee Wise.  The big stadiums and hostile atmospheres seemed to elevate him.  

 

Remember against Galatasaray, CL in 99, wasn't Wise giving it the big 'un about how they called it "Hell?" Didn't he say "so what?"  He also stuck a "who cares" sticker on the This is Anfield sign in their tunnel

Speaking of the 5-0 against Galatasaray, here's a clip.  Even Ambrosetti gettin in on the action.

 

Amazing how quiet it was at the end.  If memory serves correct, I believe even the Gala fans applauded ZOla off at the end?

Queuing up at Wembley, after beating Manure in 2000 Charity Shield, a group of fans started chanted it. Within seconds 100's more joined the choir!.

It made a few renditions in teh League this year.  I think the fans were that tired of watching the sh*te in front of them on the pitch, the just started singing about good old players.  Lampard certainly got a great few songs, and I'm pretty sure Wise had this sung too.

 

Strangely, never heard the "oh, Jimmy Jimmy..."

Boyne: My grandfather was at the Rangers v Moscow Dynamo game at Ibrox in Nov 1945. I'm sure this game was played on a Wednesday afternoon.

 

He worked in the shipyards on the Clyde and when he asked his boss for the afternoon off:  " To attend a family gathering .".

 

His boss replied: " I'll  see you there, as I'm going to your family gathering ! " 

Boyne: My grandfather was at the Rangers v Moscow Dynamo game at Ibrox in Nov 1945. I'm sure this game was played on a Wednesday afternoon.

was it as popular as our game? Great story.

RichardP: Yeah  from what I have been told and read this game caught the imagination of Scotland and not just Rangers supporters.

 

A quote attributed to his game said: 'A record number of distant relatives funerals must have been attended that Wednesday afternoon. If letters to employers and schools asking to excuse workers and pupils alike were to be believed !'

Young HCD there, still game still moody less hair.

In the 1945 game at Ibrox. A Rangers player realised that Moscow Dynamo had 12 players on the park and went to tell the ref.

The ref stopped the game, counted the players and asked the Dynamo captain to remove one of his outfield players.

This he did and the game restarted. It ended 2-2.

If that happend today, the FA would ban Chelsea, because ot the close relationship between both followers.

I took a hell of a hit to the back of the head at that UP game in 81, I remember the f**kers coming across and chucking the corner flag too.  Living in Essex it was a tough one for me as a few knew me.

Coming from Leigh on Sea, was always extremely dodgy returning after a game at Upton Pa(kistan)rk. Used to get the tube back into town with our lot, to Tower Hill, & walk round to Fenchurch St.
Even then, when the train pulled into Barking it was nigh on full of them returning to Laindon, Basildon, Pit(sh*t)sea & Benfleet.
Always hoped some of the Southend 'spammers' got on, as we all had a mutral code, in those situations.

I went to East Ham college for three years (78-81)as part of my apprenticeship. Mixed with loads of West Ham lads, good as gold there, even though they all knew I was Chelsea.

Problem came at Upton Park games, they were all looking for me, and it was a nightmare. Fun at the time though

I'm not sure if my Grand-father was there. I can't recall him talking about it and sadly he passed away in 2000. He had nine brothers and sisters so I think there is a good chance that he or one of his siblings were at the game.

 

I remember seeing a picture of the Main Stand at Ibrox with fans hanging standing in front of the middle tier of it. Will try and find it a post it.

 

So there was 92,000 at Ibrox; and estimated of 100,000 at the Bridge and according to one of the reports only 54,000 at Ibrox. Another reason why our history is greater than Arsenal's!.
