April 30, 20179 yr That 1954 picture I assume is taken late in 1953/54 or early on 1954/55. No overcoats or raincoats being worn in the picture. A fair number of collar and ties in that picture too.

May 1, 20179 yr Interesting that the Baseball game was played on a Sunday. There wasn't much sport played on a Sunday in Britain until I think the 1970s.
May 1, 20179 yr We also had the AAA Marathon Finish at The Bridge in I think 1921. Perhaps more AAA marathons finished at The Bridge too. Need to check again.

The legendary Harold Abrahams' and Eric Liddell ran at The Bridge shortly after the 1924 'Chariots of Fire' Olympics The Bridge hosted the AAA Championships before they moved to White City. I saw Seb on one of those FA Cup final matches can't recall whether it was 1994 or 1997 though seem to think it was not at Stamford Bridge. Edited May 2, 20179 yr by strider6004

May 2, 20179 yr Last time I was at the Bridge (far too long ago) we had a great back and forth between the middle and the west end of the shed.
May 2, 20179 yr I was there from the late 80's to late 90's and enjoyed the banter. I moved around a bit before deciding the Middle with the added atmosphere was my preferred spot. Once or twice I actually started a song. I noticed a link between the fans singing and the team playing well. Once up in Grimsby in a cup match (the year we won) it was rough weather and the opposition fans were up close chanting and pointing saying, 'Chelsea rent boys'. The match was 0-0 and we were struggling to not concede and our away end was quiet apart from isolated curses directed at the team. I noticed this and caught the eye of one of the opposition fans pointing and yelling Chelsea rent boy. I shouted back, 'Fxxk off fish breath! The fans around me all laughed and then someone started singing, 'We all follow the Chelsea' and we all joined in and it felt like the singing spurred the chaps to hold out for an away goalless draw and we finished the job at the bridge, 4-1. That was the year we lost in the semis to Utd.

May 4, 20179 yr I'm sure that it was in season 1983/84 that the League Cup Final (or whatever it was called, possibly the Milk Cup) was played for the first time on a Sunday. And the first one shown live on tv too ?

Found this link about it. http://carousel.royalwebhosting.net/itv/cupfinals_c.html Also found this interesting link about the history of football on TV. A game in 1960 kicked-off at 6.50pm but broadcasting of it was delayed until 7.30pm. http://www.live-footballontv.com/history-of-football-on-tv-uk.html
May 5, 20179 yr Must admit I thought that the Charity Shield being shown live was later than in that article. Good read though. Oddly enough I do remember an England v Northern Ireland European Championship qualifier being shown live in Scotland in Feb 79. Probably remember it because of it's rarity back then. England won 4-0.
