If so, bluehaze's point that they wouldn't have reprinted the programme for the rescheduled game would explain why it says 3.15 on it. But it also surprises me that it would have been down as a 3.15 kick-off on a Saturday, as 3.00 kick offs have been the norm for decades.

Anyway, I'm 99.9% certain it was an evening kick-off! My memory for things that happened 40 years ago is a lot better than things that have happened recently.

Googling that game took me to a copy of a book all about Danny Blanchflower, who took over from Ken Shellito that year. I found an interesting quote that sums up the way the Press cover Chelsea:

Always done well there not matter how good we've been over the years. Only thing that comes to my head when we won there in 96, 1-2, is that Michael Duberry scored. He didn't discriminate though through out his career as he scored at both ends. Might be a bit of negative post, but this own goal may have cost us the title back in '99. Great, exciting season though. 

I have checked both Chelsea and Man United historical stats for season 1978/79 and both state it was a 15.15 kick off on Monday 15th Jan 79. Must have been a few holidays and or sick lines put in as the attendance is given as over 38,000! I remember that the winter of 1978/79 was a really cold and snowy one.

Oh and we were back in Manchester on Saturday the 20th January to play Man City. Highlights are on youtube. The game would never ever be played today!

It was when looking through bounder.friardale site for 1978/79 that the Man Utd Cup game caught my attention. Simply because it stated that it was played on a Monday afternoon with a 15.15 kick off time. It intrigued me. Yeah I know that the regular Saturday kick off times were 3pm and had been for decades and remained so until basically the live tv games coverage started changing some Saturday kick off times.

Im sure he had a say in getting rid of the hotdog stalls on Fulham Broadway- they seemed to survive far longer outside of other grounds.

But in all fairness, the new one probably looks the best. Took parts of the badge from the 50's to the 80's and freshened it up.

I hate it as well it looked really bad on those Chelsea collection shirts especially that jade away kit. Mind you nothing looks as awful as you pointed out as that lion from the supporters club in an above post it looks like that Griffin from the old Midland bank ad.

Decent piece on Robert Fleck (I know he isn't rated by everyone on here...) on the official site. This is ahead of tomorrow's cup replay with Norwich City. To be honest, at the time I thought he would be a great signing for us!

No 88-89 we beat them at the Bridge I was at that game 2-0 I think. We beat them at the Goldstone a real rarity Beasant had a blinder we beat them 1-0.

I'd no expert but reckon that when we changed badge in 2005, it helped sell a lot more merchandising.

I know of many fans- me included- who never bought anything which displayed the old badge because it was disliked so much.

If it was a copyright issue which led to the the " Millwall Lion" badge, which unbelievably was around for 20 odd years, I don't know why they didn't just reverse the rampant lion so it was facing the other way- as Arsenal did with their cannon?

My favourite is still the classic one which I think was adopted from Earl Cadogans coat of arms, with a slight variation being the turquoise outer rim ( Was around for a couple of years in the mid 80's)

Best atmosphere at Highbury for years, last time was when 20k Chelsea turned up in 84.
