I went to Euro 88- when we played Holland - Kenny Samson got a marking job on Gullit ( think it might have been Samsons last game for England) I lost count of times that Ruud got the ball in a wide midfield position, and bombed past Samson as though he weren't there. Not a bad sweeper either- a bit like Hoddle with pace Edited February 6, 20188 yr by Ewell CFC

The bloke had everything, pace, height, outstanding skill, awareness and an insatiable desire to win. I just wish we could have got him earlier! I loved it when he first appeared on TV as a pundit. They didn't know what hit them. He couldn't give a f**k for no one but they gradually watered him down in time.

February 6, 20188 yr Hard to believe that this match was 33 years ago. Jan 30th 1985. One of my favourite matches, right up there with Barcelona at SB in 2000 which we won 3-1.

Every few minutes I’d do a leap as we’d scored, finally sat down when we’re 4-3 up then at my destination , then Dougie f**ks up.

And people complain about some of the defenders we have now !

Id played football meself that night- neither of us knew what the final score was. At half time he piped up with " are Chelsea gonna score 4 second half goals or am I gonna go to bed"? Luckily he stayed up. Roy Hattersley MP was in the West Stand for the home leg.

Brilliance, mediocrity, triumph, disaster anythings possible with Chelsea. Cant claim I was there, I watched it on Sportsnight without knowing the score. Funny watching it back two or three things struck me, Hillsborough was a proper old school Northern ground, I miss it be nice if they come back up. The crowd seems so much more passionate, I counted two streamers chucked on the pitch one at a Chelsea player early on, Im guessing that is a life ban these days? Rougvie was always a disaster waiting to happen all passion no brain, but actually the problem started with my Chelsea hero at the time Pat Nevin trying to take o two players on the touchline and losing it. Funny thing in my selective memory he never used to lose the ball :-)

February 7, 20188 yr 70s silk scarf Ive just refound after moving house a recently. The wife put it in the wash a couple of years ago after it was showing the effects of beer spillage, which pretty much wiped out the rampant lion imprints- if you look hard you can just see the faint impression of one. Some of the old blue and white bar scarfs used to fade light blue after a few years too. You could do a subsection on Chelsea scarfs we've owned. I've had this one, a couple of traditional bar scarfs, and a yellow and green longways striped one ( away colours circa 1980), which I managed to lose in the cup at Loftus Road in 96.
