It reached Number 5 in the charts. Was only 6 and have got a very vague memory of it, but remember much more clearly Spurs’s Cockerel Chorus Nice One Cyril which came out a year later- both songs were released pre League Cup Final matches.

Ours reached number 5 in the charts, compared to 13 with the other mobs.

Was Blue is the Colour a better song or did we have more fans than them at the time? Bit of both probably.

Also around that time to the tune or maybe slightly earlier, we used to walk around the playground singing to the tune of Jesus Christ Superstar “ Georgie Best, Superstar. Wears frilly knickers and a lady’s bra”

I remember the Georgie Best song and like you singing it in the school playground. Jesus Christ Superstar was first performed in 1970 so would be just before Blue is the Colour.

Slight variation  I seem to remember hearing. " Georgie Best, Superstar. Walks with a wiggle and he wears a bra."

Bit off topic but as a wee kid we used to sing this....

” fatty passed to skinny, skinny passed it back, fatty took a rotten shot and knocked the goalie flat. Where was the goalie when the ball was in the net. Half way round the goalpost with his bloomers round his neck”

Judging by the word bloomers, that song must have been ancient and passed down generations.

There used to be so many funny terrace songs back in the day, maybe a thread should be started to reminisce !.

To the tune of Jim Reeves 'Distant Drums'
I hear the sound ( clap clap clap clap clap clap ) of distant bums
Over there, over there, ( pointing to away fans )
And do they smell (clap x 6 again )
Like f*****g hell
Over there, over there.
Remember that clearly up to early 70's.

“ Last Train to Clarksville”

Take the last train to Chelsea.

I’ll meet you by the Station.

Be there by 2.30 cause they’ll be some aggravation.

Oh no, no no...
