just a point on drinking in the ground. I started going in 1978 but don’t remember if alcohol was sold in the shed back then. I remember queuing in the tea bar for tea/bovril and soft drinks.
 

If you get in the ground now when it opens the first 30-40 mins its half price, softens the blow if it’s not the best beer!!

Didn't know that about beer selling at half price for the first 30-40 minutes. Saying that I doubt if I'll be able to take advantage as normally don't get into the ground until about ten minutes before kick-off. Have been into the bar near the entrance into the MHU and was disappointed with the choice of beer. London Pride and Singha. Don't particularly like either.

My original post was about the beer in the West Stand which I only drank on a few occasions. Don't think I ever even drank soft drinks in the Shed as a kid / young teenager the queue for FB station after the game you could nip into the newsagent. Haven't been to Spurs new ground yet heard the food and beer is really good.

There was a great club near Wembley. I went there a few times before finals and I've heard that it's closed. For the life of me I can't remember its name. Tommy Baldwin was in the club before one game and his song was sung.

Edit: went into the Tournament a few times but that closed down donkeys years ago. Also the Goose on a few times. I know some guys that used to drink in the Pelican but I've heard that's not what it used to be.

I remember the club being big and when we went there about 250 Chelsea fans were allowed in. When I next speak to the people I go the games with I'll ask the name of the club.

 Villiers Rd social club always full of Chelsea it's just off Willesden High Road nearest tube Dollis Hill.  Don't know if you watched a show a few years called Dangerous Davies with Peter Davidson they filmed in there it doubled as his nick.

North Cheam Social was similar size and showed all the games on a dodgy beam back. Full of old faces.  

Once a month it used to host Surrey Soul Train; similar age group to the football crowd. ' Stretch Mark Night'

There's a social club on Upper Richmond Road Putney that also gets, or used to get loads of Chelsea in.

Same as me the above game 10 minutes later it was like the snowstorm never happened. Derby must have thought they had to make a show after 83 I remember the side to the left of the away end about 20 blokes giving the big un pretty embarrassing 😆

Same as the Cup except we had the side enclosure as well. We took 3 Specials there as opposed to the normal one.

Can remember everyone being really pissed off coming home; the Cup was all we had to play for. 

Games like that brought out 'sleeper' CFC fans who couldn't be arsed with run of the mill home games IMO.

There was also a smattering of nutters like my cousin who had no interest in football or Chelsea but went to the odd game with his mates that did, because he was up for punch up.

My mate wasn't a massive football fan and had a Saturday job when we were kids first game I brought him was against Liverpool Borota's debut we got badly crushed in the Shed. Second game was Derby 83 he wanted to go back to the train station when he saw the bedlam trying to get in. We bunked into the middle section which was just as well cause a lot of these seats were hitting Chelsea fans on the terrace below. He just wasn't used to the rough and tumble of football when he got used to it he loved it especially in the Shed he was the worst for starting pile on's 😆

Can’t believe I got locked out against scousers 79, 2pm and the old wooden doors closed on the Fulham Rd. Loved to know how many on that huge forecourt got through the turnstiles.
Knees up mother Brown in the shed was always great!! Finding your way back up the terrace was fun!! Now we get safe standing.

Me too. Drank in the Finborough got to the ground about 2. Gates locked! I wasn't a happy chappy!

I've always found Colin Lee (middle back) to be something of an enigma. How does one come to the club as a hot striker and end up as a defender?

Simpler times I guess.....

Kenny Swain was another Chelsea striker who turned himself into a very good right-back - but only after he left us.

I think back in the day when forwards lost pace they seem to drop back, although they wouldn’t be much use one on one!

I think their forward knowledge gave them a yard and also if they were good in the air great for set plays and cross’s
