Remember that friendly at Barnet in 82 or 83? Stood next to Mike Fillery for some stage of that game - I think he might have been subbed at half time and came back out to watch the game. No chance of something like that happening these days.

I watched Fulham play Colchester united in a league game back in the mid 90s and after half time Perry Groves came and sat with the Colchester fans amidst rumours he was thinking about becoming their manager or something and he was chatting with them etc. But your right Stibbs def wouldn't happen now, players are far to important. Maybe next time Suarez gets sent off against us he can come and sit in the matt harding?

I'm off to Colwyn Bay v Chelsea U21s at 6am on friday, making a weekend of it.

Sums it up now that we've a 5hr car journey just to be able to watch a Chelsea team in pre season while the club report on their website non stop of how wonderful our fans are across Asia & how the players love meeting the fans ect, what about us over here who spend our hard earned wages week in week out, my kids would love the chance to meet the players but that'd never happen, also i'd love us to send the first team to somewhere like Port Vale, a ground we havent played at since the 1920s!

Yeah i know the money is in Asia ect blah blah blah

That is a really good point, and I read on the past players thread about the game at Wokingham in the early 90s, which I also attended.  I even walked on the pitch before the game it was so laid back in those types of games. Great days those were.  Surely we have so many players that some could stay behind and play friendlies in England, or even Wales or Scotland.  I mean these games in Asia most players will get just one and a half games out of the three.  I reckon we have about 30+ players on the books that haven't yet gone out on loan so they would all get more game time this way anyway.

I have to say those Indonesian CFC fans were sensational the other day, at least they knew the words to our songs which is unlike the Liverpool 'fans' at the MCG the other night. They had to put the words to YNWA on the screens!!!!!  Hopefully its Chelsea here next year.

Thanks...I found it...It was 1969 and the attendance was 18000...I reckon that was the most horribly boring match ive attended..Especially being only14 years old

Nice one! Sad to admit I find England games at present very boring I'm surprised it didn't put your off football for life!

Agreed on the boring. I never thought that i would one day take or leave England games but that is now the case. I dont think i missed an England game when i was a kid, getting the underground to the old Wembley and bunking in under the turnstyles. These days they arent even worth the underground fare.

Agreed mate! It all started for me when some dicks started booing our players after that i lost interest, also all that Lamps and gerrard debate just got on my nerves when most of the press critizised Frank. The players put in f**k all effort, the only one who used to play 100% every England game was JT and he would still get booed. This is the new brand of football fan guilable to the press and far to many morals!

Just back from a brilliant weekend in Colwyn Bay.

Have to say our U21s & management especially Andy Myers were 1st class yday, all posed for pics with my girl & then gave her a new home shirt worn by a player & cap, just to top it off shook my hand & thanked us for going to watch them.

Wealdstone away next saturday for me next.

Glad to hear you had a good time Carshalton and that some of our players and staff showed a little respect to your family. As mentioned above our pre season freindlies are now well out of reach for us, i used to look forward to the odd midland game, the last one i remember was at Birmingham where Zola went off early, half time i think, and spent most of the second half sitting in the stands signing autographs and chatting to youngsters, he got a round of applause all round when he finally aimed for the dressing room.

Just been looking at some of yours and Shatners earlier posts, fantastic pictures and memory joggers. I can only vaguely remember the Shrewsbury games but two stick out, a 3-0 defeat (79/80) with massive CFC support, we must have threw about a dozen balls into that river. Our train was held up too as the Police wanted to search everyone for a missing football. I think they just wanted a bit of revenge as it was chaos that day and i think a jewellers got turned over. if i remember correctly we had to hastily get together some red shirts as we had only taken blue or yellow ones which were their colours.

The other one was the game in the snow and this time we wore white, trying to camouflage ourselves maybe. Just before this game there was an incident, not sure it was CFC related though, where some fans were lured into a backstreet on the premise there was an away friendly boozer down there but instead they got a proper kicking. This happened to me and my mate on this day and as most pubs were shut on account that CFC were in town, we chanced it and were mighty relieved actually find a pub full of Chelsea. This must have been the 1-0 FA Cup win in Jan 86.

The idea of playing Shrewsbury these days is about as remote as our first team doing a UK only pre season tour.

I'm friends with a couple of ex blues and they are always first class. I was with them at a testimonial in Swindon and when they came off in the second half they stood and signed autographs and posed for pictures until everyone got their keepsake's.

No need lol My friend reckons she can knit me one

Just an update on the scarf . My friend has half finished it and it is spot on. I will post a picture wearing it when it is finished and if anyone would like to order one I will get her to give me a price

Top person, still waiting for a certain person to return mine. Mine would be priceless if forum members knew who borrowed it.

Pleased you and your family had a good time and got to mix with the players and staff. Maybe you've hit the nail on the head there Carshalton, for fans who fancy realistic friendlies maybe the under 21's are the way to go. Enjoy Wealdstone!

I've just been watching an old Chelsea video on YouTube from the 1988/89 season when we battered Walsall away 7-0. I'm sure some of you are aware of it....it is from the season review video. I had the video when I was a kid so am familiar with it. Can anyone shed any light on why Jonathan Pearce (I think) is providing post match analysis and being really sarcastic and p!ss taking towards Walsall (if you're aware of the video, you'll know what I mean). I always wondered why he was being so condescending towards Walsall. If I supported them, I wouldn't be too happy with it. Their team got smashed and the commentator who is supposed to neutral and professional, just tore into them.

Cheers mate, the whole weekend was brilliant, quite a few Chelsea travelled up from London/South East & we had loads of northern & local blues there as well, the gate was 650 which isnt bad considering loads of our players are 18 yr olds.

It was nice to do a different ground & to see a small well run non league club, we won 5.1 by the way.

Here you go mate

I've always wondered what happened to Perry Baldachinno, as far as I can remember he broke no end of goalscoring records for the juniors, bit like Neil Shipperley, and then sank without trace. Anyone know what became of him?

Thanks Carlshalton, remember sitting in the east middle. I think it was the only time we got to see Alan Hudson back in a Chelsea shirt. Good competitive match although I can't remember the result.

I was talking to Damien Matthew who is now a coach at Charlton. We were chatting about the old days.I through a few names at him like Perry, Stokley Sawyers, robin Beste, they came through same time as Dublin, jones, Jasper,Howard and the guy slashed at Millwall. The first three names he thought just drifted out the game.

2013-07-27151931.jpgThis picture appeared in a local Portsmouth paper today they say its September 1986?????,More like 1984 When Chelsea took at least 10,000 down to Fratton remember it well was in the side stand and the floor went through
