June 16, 20197 yr https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2019/06/15/whole-new-ball-game?cardIndex=0-2 Stamford Bridge opens its doors for Soccer Aid this Sunday, but this is far from the only non-Chelsea event to take place at our west London home over the years Some decent pics of non football sport in this article.
June 16, 20197 yr Olympic Champions - Britain vs USA at Stamford Bridge (1926) It states 1926 above as the heading though no Olympics took place in 1926 ! Following the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, the American athletics team delayed their journey home for the opportunity to take on the British Empire in a friendly competition at Stamford Bridge on 11 August. Although the film has a somewhat unfinished feel to it, there are some excellent shots of the Olympians as they engage in steeplechase, high jump and pole vault - often captured in slow motion. The USA won eight events to the Empire's six. This 'tradition' of USA v the British Empire had started after the Antwerp Olympics of 1920 and also took place after the 1924 Paris Olympics.
