Not such a good game as as full members cup in 86, but still  proud to be at Wembley, we are so spoilt these days. Might be wrong but think the crowd was bigger than the league cup final crowd that year. What I'd give to go back to that time, nearly 21 and Italia 90 was just round the corner. Happy days

You're correct mate.

League Cup Final 29th April 1990

Nottingham Forest v Oldham

Attendance: 74,343.

Our Wembley attendance was 76,369.

I believe its the most watched domestic football game ever, excluding England v Argentina 86 and England V West Germany 90. I think its about the 10th most TV programme of all time.

Agree re the film 633 Squadron.

Found this on Wikipedia. Figures are different from the article posted above but shows the FA Cup replay is the 5th most watched programme of all time in the U.K. and to think it will be the 50th anniversary next year.

As for 633 Squadron the works to get an airworthy Mosquito flying in the U.K. are going well. It would be great to see one flying over the U.K. skies.

I remember Apollo, bit too young for 1970 v Leeds and the CWC in Athens. ( then again there were several Apollo missions and maybe I’m confusing them)

72 Olympics- Mark Spitz, Olga Corbett I remember watching, but not the League Cup Final v Stoke the same year.

First World Cup I noticed was 74.

We were on holiday in the Isle of White, and remember watching part of the West Germany v Holland Final with me old man in Sandown High St, looking at a telly in an electrical store front window.

Edit: I was born at the end of 65. First Cup Final I can clearly remember was Leeds v Sunderland in 73.

My older brother and his lot were two years older and the first game they remember seems to be 71 CWC Athens.

Maybe 7 years old seems to be the age you know what’s going on football wise?

First football match I remember was 1975 cup final Fulham v West ham, I had just turned 6, first world cup I remember was Argentina 78. Spain 82 was first one with my figurine panni world cup sticker book.

Off to Athens for the ECWC Final v Real Madrid back in 1971.

I think.

Yes, the squad travelling in style while some of the fans (me and my brother included) had to make do with an old prop driven Lockheed Constellation. Coming back, so my brother remembers, we had to circle above Gatwick for half an hour, because of a storm.

Leeds Sunderland was the first final I saw in colour at my uncles flat in Mitcham.

Totally agree about being 7 years old and being 'footballing wise'

That was the age I was when the 1974 World Cup was being played and I started following Chelsea in 1974/75.

The discussions we would have had in Primary 3 about football, would have shamed some tv 'football experts'.

Well I think we would have anyway.:laugh2:

Was that the Leeds game early 70s when due to overcrowding kids were allowed so go by the old dog track?

Not entirely sure but I think it's against Man United in the late 60's possibly the season after they won the European Cup.

I can only recognise a couple of the players: Keith Jones and I think it's Phil Priest in the front row. Anyone recognise other players?

I won a penalty shootout pre season 83/84 against that goalkeeper, Grant Lunn was his name. Terry Howard is next left to him then Perry Baldacchino there were three black players Robin Beste Ian braithwaite and stockley sawyers. Martin Nolan is by the cup. One of them will be Bobby Isaccs who was stabbed at Millwall the following year. Not bad now I’m 51!!

Def wasn't the Leeds game in Aug 72. We got on the dog track for most of the game, there were loads more on it than what that pic shows. Also the clothes worn were from the 60's, & Old Bills uniforms as well. Not a pair of Braces, Doc Martens or turned up Levis in sight!

30/05/1954 Chelsea beat New Jersey All-Stars 2-0 in a friendly

05/06/1954 Chelsea beat Glasgow Rangers 4-1 in a friendly

06/06/1954 Chelsea drew with Glasgow Rangers 0-0 in a friendly

http://www.bounder.friardale.co.uk/Summaries/1953.htm

That summer tour of 1954 must have been an amazing experience for all who went on it.

Lets face it, European travel was rare for mist people until the start of affordable foreign package holidays abroad of the mid 1970s.

Yes I fully accept many would also have been abroad in National Service or even World War Two, but you know what I mean.
