They never put a roof on the Clock End because shade would inhibit grass growth- or so a Gooner mate told me.

Not a bad ground Highbury in its day to be fair; never saw us win there till the League Cup in 99.

Edit: when I first went there both stands had enclosures at the bottom. Two big ends- they must have had one of the largest standing/ seating ratios out there when capacity was 63,000

Ps Anyone know when the last 60,000 plus gate was recorded at the Bridge?

I'm going to go with Spurs 14th November 1970 in the League. 61,277 attended. I believe I was there and have no recollection at all. Probably because we lost 2 nil.

Ah spotted a  Half in Half Ski hat. from the mid 1980s.

Very essential head gear

Game was played on 16 May 1985 and was for the Bradford Fire Appeal. We won 3-2.

My old dear refused to let me come down for the game. as I had a College exam the next morning !

I got the full  'some things in life are far more important than you watching football' lecture. :sign0195:

( Oh and I passed the exam the next morning, just for the record !)

Far more of a Glasgow Rangers away support and that's just those shown in this picture, than the usual Queens Park Rangers away support

I was at the game and remember that the crowd wasn't that large. About 10,000 if I remember correctly. Davie Cooper was injured so didn't play for Rangers. It would have been great to see him and Pat Nevin on the same pitch. I think that they only played a few times together for Scotland.

Congratulations on passing the exam. My parents used to say to me that there are more important things than football!

Cheers. If I was a betting man I’d have gone with Man Utd from that era, who were the biggest draw in football at the time.

So the last 70,000 and 60,000 plus gates were versus Rottenham, and the last 50,000 plus was Boxing Day 76 v Fulham.

I was at a game in the 70's when the Spurs fans were shaking the iron railings running down the north side of the west stand. I'm not sure if this was the same game. The railings were swaying back and forth and it looked a bit dangerous. They didn't come down but it certainly added to the atmosphere.

Are you of a vintage to remember which year this was?

I was at the game at WHL where it all went off on the pitch and just about everywhere else. I think it may have been before the '78 match.

I remember thinking I don't know who is who here. There where a lot of guys running around without colours. I was in the seats at the back of the Paxton Rd end and it was going off in the terrace direct in front. I can't remember a game with more fighting in the ground than on that day.

That was in April 75, most of us got locked out. Had we all got in, the events on the pitch would have been a lot different from what actually happened.
Fast forward to Aug 78, we filled the Park Lane end, which supposedly held 10,000.

I also used to get the lecture: " If you spent as much time on your school work, as you do thinking about Chelsea you'd do a lot better in your school exams !"

Pretty sure many others got/still get that lecture...

Just having another look at two of our games from mid 1964/65 .

On Sat, 6th March 1965 we played and beat Peterborough Utd in FA Cup 6th Rd at The Bridge in front of 63,635 !

Then on Wed 10th Mar 1965, we played and beat Spurs 3-1 at the Bridge in front of 51,390.

Just shows what the FA Cup meant back then.

Before my time but heard we did well outside the ground after in 75, when the locked out Chelsea got involved.

I took a serious dig off one of our own at WHL in 91- mistaken identity.

Looks like the 1974/75 team group, with David Hay just not long signed from Celtic.

Yes, the 74/75 team group. A few months later, Chris Garland left the club. I read a few years back that he is suffering from Parkinson's Disease.
