The Leicester smoke bomb game was something else, friday night as they couldn't play on Saturdays during the Rugby season as it was more popular. Constant fighting during the first half in the enclosure to our left (camera side on the telly) and they pulled hundreds of Chelsea out of there, a constant stream and stuck them in the small seated stand on our right. Then toward the end it all kicked off in the Leicester pen next to us on our left where Chelsea had got in there once the gates opened, that went on for ages too.

More on that season thread. 35 years f**k me, remember watching on TV, a real treat that everyone else in the country could watch THAT team which we were becoming so proud of, I went to home games that season and was always banging on about them at school but no one else ahad seen us. Remember to this day the Saturday morning on my paper round reading every report in each paper on the City game. large, loud and boisterous were some of the words I remember reporters describing our support. My paper round took bloody ages reading those sports pages! "Pat Nevin, Pat Nevin, Pat Nevin"

Was usually in Shed Middle but had my girlfriend with me that day and whenever she went we went wither West Stand or to members enclosure as the one-time I took her in the shed, she kept getting knocked off her feet with all the swaying and I couldn't concentrate on the game. That day though, still the most gutted I have ever been watching Chelsea. Didn't blub but the eyes were definitely moist at the final whistle.
May 4, 20197 yr Funny only mentioned the game last Saturday night as met up with friends who me and my Mrs met on the evening of the Boro play off game 30 years ago, we went camping that night after I had driven down from bridge, we got pissed and I sung defiant Chelsea songs through the camp site late at night, got told to shut up from some tents, and the odd "going down going down"

"Pat Nevin, Pat Nevin, Pat Nevin" This has brought back the memory of the genuine excitement of seeing Chelsea live on tv all those years ago Agreed mate ,though it certainly doesn't feel like 35 years ! And walking so tall, the days after it.

Those programmes will be somewhere in my parents loft, unless they've binned them!! Edited May 7, 20197 yr by chi blue
May 7, 20197 yr Ok without Googling who would you say we are playing in the Kerry Dixon pic posted by Boyne and the Pat Nevin programme posted by Erks. I'm going Birmingham-Dixon, Oldham-Nevin.

The Nevin one is definitely Pompey away, that's the old fratton end before it was knocked down and then was an open terrace for a while, the sun sets behind that stand hence the sun set, remember pre season game around 97 it was evening and sun setting and it was bloody hard to see in away end due to sun being low.
May 7, 20197 yr Definitely Pompey, Pat scoring our penalty in the 2-2 draw. One of our many penalty takers that season before he missed one at Grimsby last game!!

Good shout Chi it was the previous away game after all. Must admit it looks different as how I remember it.
