The scoreboard reads 'Every picture tells a story', drawing attention to the fact Chelsea are thrashing Newcastle United 6-0 in this October 1980 Second Division fixture

Just Love this photo, it instantly transports me back in time to my early years of coming to the bridge. Newcastle to be fair were probably the most consitent away support numbers wise from outside the capital

Another pic of The Shed in all its glory.

Late 70s, perhaps and early season, judging by the fact there is so much grass on what can be seen of the pitch !

Chelsea 6 -0 Newcastle

Sat, 25th Oct 1980

Our scorers: Colin Lee with a hat-trick In the 15th, 46th and 86th mins respectively.

Our other scorers were: Mike, Fillery 34th, Clive Walker 43rd and Gary Chivers 51st mins,

In front of 22,916

Some fine football by us in that 6-0 game.

The great goal by Gary Chivers would, nowadays, be replayed time and time again

And deservedly so.

The official attendance was given as 22,916, looks like far more than that in The Bridge that day.

Just realised that Billy Rafferty was playing for Newcastle that day. He is a friend of one of my Uncles .

In his playing career, he played for eight different League clubs ! Scoring 145 goals in 468 matches.

He was 'a Bosman' a generation before it ever existed !

Went to that plus the 4-Nil. Always looked forward to playing Newcastle home and away early 80s through to the Keegan in charge era.

Anyone got an memories of the FA Cup Semi 2000?

Good pre match drink in that massive social club Willesden direction.

Remember Sir Bobby Robson, saying Chelsea had fantastic support at Wembley that day in the semi Final

Blues fans run on to the pitch to celebrate their promotion to the First Division in 1977 following a 4-0 win over Hull City. Chelsea fluctuated between the first and second tiers during the 1970s and 1980s

The second triple decker stand in the country.

What was the first?

It’s still there now- it’s not totally cantilevered like ours, there’s a few stanchions dotted around and restricted views.

Answers on a postcard.

Here's the 4-0 Newcastle United on 12th January 1980.

MOTD Highlights, with Barry Davies commentating

Our scorers: Mike Fillery 39th, Barton (O.G) 47th, Clive Walker 49th and Tommy Langley in the 74th minutes respectively.

In front of 32,281.

I've nothing against Newcastle Utd, just searching through old Chelsea footage and found these two big wins over them in 1980.

I might have mentioned on here before, but remember both games were on TV and remember at least one of them being on the big match and rushed back from Sunday morning under 11's football to watch, real treat for us to be on TV and also win.

Agreed and being a young Chelsea fan up in Scotland back then, it was great when we were on the tv highlights,

Even better when we won, of course:biggrin:

Villiers Road. They used it as the old bill station in Dangerous Davies The Last Detective.
