With Perreira deal falling through and PVA out on loan, does that mean Ryan is our second choice LB for the sason.

Certainly appears so.

Wouldn't be surprised if Malouda got picked before him.

I believe he could still go on loan to a championship club.

I've got to say when Pereira looked set to go through I was absolutely gutted for the lad. This will be the biggest positive I will take out of deadline day. Really happy for him and really happy that the Chelsea youth project is still alive.

It would appear so, I think we'll see more of him in Carling Cup and early Fa Cup games. Glad that he's now just one step (albeit behind Ahsley Cole) from the first team

I am happy Alvaro wasn't signed. Now its upto Berty to become the understudy to Ash and the eventual successor.

I think he could be given a chance, espically in cup games. It seemed to me that AVB favoured Ryan to Paddy in pre season before Ryan got a knock. But who knows!

Me too. He was used there against Roma that night wasn't he. But hopefully AVB has more sense than that!!

i hope Ryan will be given chances this year though if ashley is missing for an important game, its more likely that bosingwa will switch to the left, and ivan or ferreira fill in on the right.

Not signing Pereira makes me really glad. Lets see if Bertrand gets some time behind Ashley. Not sure about Luiz but I would guess PF is his main opponent for that LB spot.

If one of our right backs has to play on the left, I'm pretty sure it will be Ferreira. He's done that before and played there pretty regularly for Portugal.

dont think so mate. Hiddink used Bosingwa on the left against Barcelona in the first leg to play against Messi. He did a good job if you remember correctly. Personally i'd only use Ferreira if he was the only option i had

Last time I checked, Hiddink's not our manager. Ferreira has far more experience of playing on the left.

last time I checked, with Hiddink we shouldve been in the CL Final. Ferreira is slow, and not that good of a defender. I wouldnt be suprised if you only saw him in carling cup games this year.

I'm very glad that we didn't get Pereira. I hope Bertrand is given the chance. With Paulo being portugese I can see AVB using him on the left as well. If you look MOTD highlights from the Norwich game you see AVB joking with Paulo about something when Bossy scored...

Bosingwa was only used there against Barca because Paulo I believe wasn't registered for that stage of the tournament. I remember raging about it at the time, of course until Jose's performance in the Nou Camp. :blush2:

What does that have to do with our current situation? Hiddink's not our manager. AVB is the boss and he seems to think Bossy is our first choice right back and if he's fit to play, I don't think he would be made to play on the left.

Yes, Ferreira is slow when compared to Bossy, but defensively he's been more solid and is a better crosser than Bossy. Bossy is better at going forward, though.

I agree with you mate, but Hiddink did such a good job, and his decision to play Bos on the left was a very good one. He was strictly instructed to stay in his position and i believe defencively played better than Ferreira would've. Its up to AVB what happens and who he plays where, but im sure playing Bos on the left is something he should at least consider. Lets just hope Ashley is fit for any important game and a scenario like this will not occur.

Defensively we were very solid and I admit it was a good decision, but maybe it's because he's Portuguese, but I have a feeling that if we have to play a right back out of position, AVB will go for Ferreira. Ferreira has played on the left for Portugal when Bossy has been the right back and I don't think he's ever been played on the left for Portugal. Then again, I'd rather have someone leftfooted as our leftback and play a right back there only as the last option.

It's easy to agree with this one and I hope Bertrand will get some matches. Ryan's good enough to play at least in the early stages of domestic cups and why not some league matches as well. Ashley doesn't need to play every match. Rest him here and there and it should keep him fresh all through the season.

I wouldnt be opposed to it because I dont wanna throw the guy to the wolves, but in most other scenarios I would love to see him as a like for like replacement with A Cole (cup games, dead rubber matches in Europe, league games where ash is out)

Our current depth makes me think he will never see the bench in a league game.

This was one of the best pieces of news to come out yesterday for us. I'm glad we saved the 20 million and are now going to be forced to give Bertrand a chance. From the little I've seen he looks very promising.

Perreira mustve been some kind of smoke screen. I dont really see why we were interested in him.

I'd have him on the bench over Ferreria.

Same here, but I doubt AVB would go with that. One thing you can say about Paulo is he has the experience for every situation.
