Posted September 26, 201113 yr Poyet defends Lamps and Chelsea. Respect to him for that. Also, at the end he refers to Chelsea as 'we'. I do not know how to insert videos, so here is the link.
September 27, 201113 yr I know opinion is divided on Gus Poyet. Great player for us, fell out with the club over a contract, felt harshly treated, went to Spurs, then infamously kissed their badge in front of our travelling support at sh*te Hart Lane, when they (or he) had just scored. I forgave him. He has since admitted it was a mistake, and one he regrets. He was always a passionate fellow and I think he just got caught up in the moment. Whatever. I understand those that bear a grudge. What is beyond dispute is that he was a great player for us: Bucketloads of bottle and no little quality. His comments on Chelsea are pure quality and I think he goes some way to redeem himself. Notice he still talks in the "We". As in, "We are good enough". http://www.skysports...7204614,00.html For those that can't access the link on their phones, here's the edited version that was shown on Sky Sports News, courtesy of youtube. That's right folks, you heard me correctly, SKY really did show it. Enjoy ..
September 27, 201113 yr TBH this interview and others (one where he stated that he regretted what he did to our fans) has gone a long way to redeem him. Always passionate as a player, seems to be exactly the same as a manager. Good luck to him.
September 27, 201113 yr I never forgave Gudjonson for celebrating the way he did when he scored against us for Barca.
September 27, 201113 yr I know that we have AVB in place and we are all hoping that he has a long and successful tenure but, with Poyet having a decent start to his managerial career I kind of thought he might be a future manager of Chelsea and I personally wouldn't mind if he ever was to become so.
September 27, 201113 yr I have always liked Poyet, even though he booted us in the balls a bit. Me too, almost felt like be cheated on the way he celebrated that goal. But i've forgiven him & Joe Cole (since he left the rat munching murders)
September 27, 201113 yr I did think what he did at White Hart Lane was out of order. I wasn't there but heard about it, obviously. However we all make mistakes and he has since expressed his regret over it and I think he deserves forgiveness, particularly as he was such a committed footballer for us. I didn't begrudge his move to Spurs and understood his reasons for it. We offered him one further year with us when he wanted two, and we didn't entertain the idea. He was getting on and had suffered injuries while playing for us. Hoddle offered him a three year deal and he went to Spurs, quite understandably in my view. Chelsea were quite happy to sell him, and we lost a good player, though we may have been right in thinking he only had one more good season left in him. He was very good that first year at Spurs and they reached the League Cup final, which thankfully they lost.
September 27, 201113 yr Wow, well said man! Lets face it, Joe Cole should earn nowhere near the same amount of scorn. All he was "guilty" of was not being complimentary enough* of us when he did some puff piece for his new club. Poyet's offense was much more direct. But then again, after he goes on the attack on our behalf like that, and says "we", its kind of hard to be mad about a betrayl that happened almost a decade ago and which the man himself says was a mistake. *in the eyes of some
September 27, 201113 yr I've not seen the articles or interviews where Poyet apologises for kissing the cock and so am still very bitter about it - I was there! That said he does clearly feel like Chelsea is his home in England and so I'd love to see him apologise, it would make forgiving him so much easier. I had no issue with him joining them even though at about the same time Petrescu took a pay cut to stay with us when the scum wanted him. As for Joe Cole, I have no real issue. He wasn't good enough to get a new contract and needed to get his new fans on his side.
September 27, 201113 yr I hated Poyet for what he did, mainly because I loved him so much when he was with us. He was brilliant for us, and mental and he was exactly the kind of player fans take to. Then he kissed the cock and pissed me off no end. I`m still not happy with what he did, but the more I see of him in interviews and the more I see how he has Brighton playing the more I forgive him.
September 27, 201113 yr I've also hated him ever since the badge kissing incident but if we said it was mistake and he regrets it, is backing lamprd against all these red-top media bias and still refers to CFC as we... he's forgiven in my book Edited September 27, 201113 yr by CFC_montreal
September 27, 201113 yr This is what I came across: What were your first impressions of Claudio Ranieri when he arrived at Chelsea? Is it true that you were his translator for a while? Helen Cooper, via email Six months! For six months I was his translator! [FFT: How was that?] It was difficult, let's say, especially during training. I'd be trying to focus on one thing and the next minute I was helping the manager explain something complicated. I even had to drop players for him. I hated that. I'd say, "Look, it's not me saying this!" It wasn't nice to do. You were a crowd favourite at Chelsea, Gus, so what were you thinking when you put in a transfer request and joined Spurs?! Richard Sammons, Deal Look, I'm a Chelsea fan. I think the fans know how much I gave to the club. The thing was, when I was there, Chelsea had not lost to Spurs in a long time so I didn't see them as rivals; normally, the teams fans do not like are the teams they cannot beat! I had the chance to go to Liverpool but I was keen to stay in London. But after I played against Chelsea, I remember thinking, "Oh, what have I done?" I'm not making excuses, I just didn't realise. It was my fault and I need to accept that. Yes, I celebrated by the Chelsea bench when we beat them 5-1 in the League Cup, but that was purely for Ranieri. He was why I put in a transfer request and it was personal. He's sure not winning me over with trying to smear it on Claudio. If he's a Chelsea fan as he claims to be then he had to realise who would really be hurt by his action. Is there even a turning back after kissing the cock? As a first step I think he should stop looking for excuses and take full responsibility.
September 27, 201113 yr What was Joe Cole going to say though, "I've gone to Liverpool to win league titles!" or "play in the Champions League", it was all he could say really, and I imagine he was a little bitter about not being as integral to Chelsea like Lamps and Terry, as he though he was. Really surprised that that sky showed that.
September 27, 201113 yr I loved Poyet as a player & met him a few times & he came across as a nice fella, though i just cant forgive him for that betrayal, look at it this way Gordon Durie got slaughtered so much by us Chelsea fans v us at White Hart Lane that he never played for Spurs v us again. For you younger fans Durie put in a transfer request & said he wanted to move back North(Scotland/Rangers) but he then signed for that lot in N17 & got dogs abuse in a 3.1 win for us(as usual) Poyet done worse imo kissing their badge IN FRONT of gutted Chelsea fans just isnt on, though time will proberly tell if he'll ever be forgiven. As for Joe Cole, ex Shed boy loves the club & did sign for one of the biggest clubs in England/Europe what else would he say? no different to Torres saying the same about us, i know for a fact Joe Cole supported a family who were going through a terrible time(not going in to details) he was one of the first at the situation giving his support & for that i've nothing but respect for him.
September 28, 201113 yr Regardless of what went on before, Poyet has no need to come out and defend Chelsea as he has. What he's saying isn't popular but it's true, as we all know. He's managing Brighton, he's building a reputation, and he doesn't have to involve himself in other people's business, let alone defend a club as unpopular as ours. It's about time someone set the record straight as far as our club is concerned and he's done it, and full power to him for it. Also, considering he was a popular player at Spurs, it might rankle with their fans that he says "We" in regard to Chelsea ..
October 1, 201113 yr Still a hung Jury for me on Poyet. he also used to give young Hartley pure hell on the pitch if he ever made a single mistake, I think Poyet would have endeared himself to me further if he'd taken young John under his wing and given him positive support rather than screaming at him during games. Also, if you really are a Chelsea fan, surely you HAVE to know about tottenham...surely?
