Quality player. Think he's probably the last one (before Terry) to come through our youth team and actually break into the first team and become an established player. Always very underrated and didn't get anywhere near as many England games as he should have.

About 2min48sec into that clip, he scores at Selhurst Park, and a few Chelsea jump up in the home end.

His best days were at Blackburn IMO.

Edit: Just realised, I think that lob he scores against Utd was Gullit's last game in charge.

Im pretty sure Ruuds last game in charge was sometime after that game, I think it may have been a League Cup semi first leg at Highbury but can't be sure.

Anyway, LeSaux - a fine player. Scandalous we swapped him for Steve Livingstone who was a joke of a footballer and then paid £5 million for him 4 years later.

He loved Chelsea too.

Fully correct, that was it.

He was some player if you ask me, a lot of great memories of Berg...

I dont know why he got the treatment he did from some of his managers over the years not least England. When he came back to Chelsea he was great and all there was in the press was that England didn't have a left sided player, yet he was brilliant down the left defense and midfield. Very underrated in my opinion.

And of course that elbow in Robbie Fowler's face was spectacular. That little scouse scrote certainly had it coming.

To be fair Berg wasnt shy when it came to an elbow or a kick

The chapter in his book about that incident and the fallout is fasciating. The lack of support he got is stunning, even from within the club.

In fact his whole book is an interesting read.

Ashley Cole he is not.

Can anyone summarise whether he and Fowler patched things up or not?

Surprised we don't see more of Soxy on TV - very eloquent chap and always came over very well. What's he up to these days?

I believe he's currently a Chels ambassador. Allowing for the chasms in my Swiss cheese memory, I may have witnessed his last game before his departure to Blackburn. I'm fairly certain it was against Ipswich who had John Wark (the player's always the last person to know he's finished) kicking everything up in the air, viewing the game through the clouds of the East Stand, "Socks" took the ball to the corner flag (Shed End) which inspired John Wark to launch a hefty kick at what used to be called, in Doug Rougvie's day 'man and ball', that "Socks" only avoided by a spectacular jump. Shortly after Glen pulled him off, which prompted "Socks" to pull his shirt off and walk to the bench with an obvious hump and consequent rant, though a passing cloud obscured my view. Seemingly within days "Socks" was out in a not too dissimilar way to Glen Johnson/Jose. I considered he was a better player following his experience at Blackburn as he seemed to relish joining up in midfield (where he collected that woeful tackle from Gerrard in that fantastic 03/04 game which gave us the CL spot under Claudio)... though I'm the first to admit my memory is a pavement sausage... as the mothers of my children confirm far too frequently for my lasting comfort.

Super player , he scored against Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday one afternoon at home we were 2-0 down i think game was up. But he ran through them from the halfway line towards their goal (shedend!!) and put it home. He was young during his first spell and i thought he had a bit about him from them on.

Ah, but Soxy overcame his frogginess to become a true Brit

Brilliant -- and leading with his left disposes of suggestions he's not "orthodox"
