What on earth are we going to do in our defence???

Ferreria - Bosingwa - Essien - Cole?

This isn't going to be a back to the wall affair like at the Nou Camp so we won't be flooding our half again, so the cb's are going to be slightly more exposed. Excuse my negativity but do all our hopes lie within Cahill and Luiz to make a full recovery? I can see a horrible score line if not. No disrespect to Bosingwa and Essien but they have a hard time playing their own position let alone a different one.

Should we be scared?

If one or both aren't fit then yes we should be very scared!

In the even that neither make it I would play bosingwa and cole as centre backs and Bertrand on the left.

That said, I think it is quite likely Luiz will be fit. Not so sure about Cahill though.

This is a scarey thought, something which actually makes me wish I had taken my football a lot more seriously when I was a kid got picked up by the Chelsea as a kid and made it through the ranks and now a first team regular and playing centre back so I can fit in and do the business ~ god I wish I had my time machine sorted.

No matter who is playing at the back I know they will play their hearts out and try their best, lets just hope that their best is good enough.

Essien has done it before, I seem to remember made a very decent right back... Think Cole would be the person but think we will miss him and think he will do a job on either Robben or Ribery. What about:

Bos Ferreria Essien Cole

Joey I know this is the same as your team but would prefer to see Bos play RB and Ferreria play CB.

I personally think that Luiz will be fit at the very minimum. He has been out for nearly a month. Bosingwa and Ferreira will just need solid protection. Bayern will have the pressure on them to attack. I can see us sitting in the same as we have done in Europe under Robbie. Problem is without Ramires' pace we might struggle.

Romeu (sp) the Spanish Kid is use to playing at CB while playing for the Barca B team, he could slot in there very nicely. I dont think Essien is quick enough anymore to do that job. Either that or play Ash as CB and Malouda at LB.

If Luiz isn't fit they should get JT to put on a Luiz wig so he can play...

Seriously though we'd be screwed. I believe at least one of them will be fit, the way they celebrated in Barcelona and Wembley then they can't be that injured...

I think Luiz is fit already, just being rested. Cahil im sure will do everything he can to get to that game. I wouldnt be shocked if he played.

As for those saying we will be screwed, Robbie will sort something out, we have players who can play in different positions. My bigger worry is we wont have Ramie playing.

Essien made a very decent right back when he still had his legs and was a world class midfielder. Now, not so much. If we're forced to play that defense, we don't have a prayer.

Cahill will play in that game. No doubt in my mind. Unless his legs hanging off then he's better than anything else available. Essien is shocking at the minute. I've seen milk turn quicker. As for whoever suggested romeu at centre half??? After last night he would be more at home on dancing on ice. What happened to him, he looked a great players early doors now just looks the same as most of our midfield. Garbage

Some mention Essien, but what about Mikel? Decent in the air, reads the game well and wins the ball quite often. Makes some rash tackles sometimes though, but so does Luiz.

But I really do hope we have Cahill and Luiz back for the final. Would feel a bit better then. They're not JT and Ivan (I've surpressed the memory of last game), but they're good and should be able to do the job.

Mikel is needed as a shield in front on the center backs. You saw how crappy our defense was yesterday when we played the very atypical formation 1-1-1 with Bertrand cruising, Ramires boiling and Torres just chillin' up front. With Mikel, even though he's not the most popular guy in here, I don't think we would have let in so many.

However, he could do a great job as a center back, but he is more needed in the midfield.

We should try and clone him. I want him at both positions

If Luiz and Cahill aren't fit...

then we are f**ked.

This.

Even if they are is a hard ask, Bayern on their own pitch will be very tough, but with Essien and Bosingwa at CB vs Gomez, Muller, Robben etc. Will make the Anfield game look a close match.

We will not stand a chance if both are out, just be honest, we'll simply be too weak. If even one is out, I will go into the game with significant doubts. If both are playing, I'll be a lot more comfortable, but not confident (because I'll still be a pessimist lol)

I see someone has already said it (maybe tongue in cheek) but I would seriously think about playing Drogba there and torres up front. We are gonna need a physical defender to handle Gomez and Drogba is certainly that. Losing him from the front is a big price to pay though.

Posted

Firstly, lets all hope and pray that they (luiz and Cahill) make it....

Worst case scenario - if neither of them make it then i think that we would need to go with Essien and Boss at CB. with Paulo and Ash out wide.

Posted

I would be adversed to Drogba playing CB... eep!

Is Hutch eligible? Ryan?

Paulo -- Bosingwa -- Hutch -- Cole

Let's hope it's

Paulo -- Luiz -- Cahill -- Cole

At no point should Bosingwa play RB. If we nee him at CB then so be it, but not RB.

Would you not be worried about Drogba's tackling? Great in the air, really class at defending corners and set plays but with someone like Robben charging at him could he cope?
