Could you hate a team more than you love Chelsea?

I don't think I could in all honesty. The closest I came was probably Liverpool from about 2005-2010 where I won't lie... I took almost as much pleasure in seeing Liverpool lose as I did us win. The combination of both often felt like a 2nd coming of Christmas. I'd often watch Liverpool games and my heart would race for the opposition almost as much as it would if it were Chelsea. It's pretty embarrassing but I was much younger at the time. The same for Arsenal as well (1997-2004) but to be fair they are a rival club and years of being taunted and laughed at by Arsenal family/mates + seeing Arsenal win trophy after trophy instilled that hatred and jealousy in me.

I only ask because it seems fans of other clubs are becoming disturbingly obsessed with Chelsea. It only takes a quick search on Twitter or a social networking site to see this. Fans often more worried about what we are doing than their own teams. This seems fairly common amongst fans of Spurs, West Ham, QPR and formely Liverpool, although I know many London-based United fans (Cockney Reds) are similar. To many of them, seeing us lose is better than their own team winning.

You'd think that in a playoff semi final West Ham fans would be giving their players all the vocal support they need to carry them over the finish line right? No. Singing about Chelsea is more important.

You'd think that whilst Spurs are playing their most important game needing a win to stand any chance of 3rd thus European qualification they'd be roaring their team on. Right? No. Singing about Chelsea is more important. As is changing club crest and signing up to Bayern forums week before the final (admittedly they had their own interests at heart but no club worth their salt would stoop that low)

You'd think that whilst QPR are in a relegation needing a win to be sure of safety they'd be bringing banners along saying "We are staying up" "We'll be back" or something like that. Right? Instead a banner wishing Bayern good luck in a competition that in no way, shape or form affects them (or ever will).

I live South of the river and many Arsenal fans I've grown up with also Arsenal supporting family members that live in West London are symptomatic of this. I don't mean to dig these clubs out I'm know we also have fans like this re: Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool but it bedazzles me how anyone can have such hatred/obsession with another club that outweighs their own

I agree with you on most fronts, but instead of Liverpool, change it to Manchester United. My dad supports Liverpool and obviously I support Chelsea and I seemed to of gained a hatred for them from mostly 2006- onwards mostly due to the arrogance of their fans and constantly getting stick off them for Moscow. Plus, I really dislike Rooney, Evra, Nani, Van Persie and Rooney and as you said, would probably get even happier over them losing than Chelsea winning.

However, I love Chelsea as much as they make me nervous and have upset me in the past, I just can't help but love them.

I think a lot of Evertonians would prefer to see Liverpool lose a major cup final than see their own team win one, the same goes for City fans with United. Probably Celtic and Rangers too. I only really hate United and Spurs.

no. i dont hate any teams, pointless. i like chelsea and football as a whole

You haven't met many Tottenham fans then.

Sure I hate some teams, but if I hate teams more than the team I love, it kind of defeats the purpose of football or even sport where I cheer FOR teams, not against. Cheering against teams is not really that fun or sporting to me.

I wouldn't say so, there are teams I enjoy to see loosing, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, QPR, West Ham, Bayern Munich, Rangers, but it's immaterial to Chelsea so it doesn't really matter a great deal.

I'll always cheer whoever is playing against one of our title rivals, United and City at the moment, but that's just a means to an end. I don't want to see them loose because I want their fans to suffer, it simply helps us.

I find the supporters of many teams insufferable, but I don't have the energy to hate them. If I lived in London and had to deal with them face to face on a regular basis, however, I might have a different perspective.

Seeing teams I hate lose is merely a slight consolation if Chelsea have already lost...or an added bonus if Chelsea had won.

My love for Chelsea and my hatred for Tottenham are equally strong. For example, if I had a choice of seeing Chelsea win the league or of Tottenham getting relegated, I'd be hard pressed to make a choice - in an ideal world both scenarios would happen in the same season and I could die happy.

In no particular order, Liverpool, Spurs, Leeds, Manure, West Ham, Arsenal and QPR.

I don't hate any of them more than I love Chelsea though...

The hate is strong in this one.

I can't agree though. I wouldn't care if Spuds/Liverpool/United or whoever finished second, as long as it was to us.

In a way I can sort of relate to what BlueBeard is saying. I took as much pleasure in seeing Arsenal have near misses to United as I did out of seeing Chelsea win for reasons I stated earlier. That 6-1 win where United beat Arsenal ranks up there with almost anything, only beaten by Barca beating Arsenal 2-1 in the CL Final.

I know Chelsea fans in general don't have much love for Barca but especially now I can't thank them enough for beating Arsenal in Paris because if Arsenal had won and become the first London club to win it I'd never have heard the end of it. So much so I'd have contemplated throwing myself into the Thames.

I hope I never live to see the day where Arsenal win the CL, Tottenham Win the League or West Ham win a trophy of any kind. I've been fortunate enough that in none have happened while I've been alive.

I find Spurs fans (generally speaking) the most deplorable people you can meet. Embodied in bitterness and obsession of Arsenal and Chelsea. I'd honestly support any London team against them (even Arsenal, which I'm going to do this season with my best mate who's a Gooner)
