I'm livid.

 

I was really looking forward to getting the new Thief game which came out yesterday for PS4. It looked really promising. But the reviews are hardly glowing. Mainly 6 and 7/10 from most websites.

 

I know reviews are just one person's opinion but overall it hasn't been received well. Talk of cluttered level design, dull story and protagonist, less than amazing gameplay. I played Dishonoured, and thought it was excellent. It looks like Thief isn't even as good as that.

 

Was anybody else going to get this?

 

I'm getting Dark Souls 2 and inFamous next month so was going to wait and see with this one. 

 

It's got a 69/100 score on Metacritic right now, so it's still sounds like a good game, just not an excellent one.

I never played the original Dark Souls so I think I'd be out of my depth if I played the new one. Would I? I know its famous for being extremely difficult!

 

I am definitely getting Infamous.

 

Perhaps I'll buy Thief. And if it's sh*te I'll trade it in for Infamous.

The learning curve for Dark Souls is brutal, it doesn't hold your hand through the game at all, not even at the beginning. 

 

If it wasn't for online Wiki's I would never have finished it but it's one of my all time favourite games now and I'm playing it through again at the moment with the view of getting the platinum trophy for it.

 

You won't need to have played Dark Souls to understand the new one because there isn't really much of a story line anyway but maybe pick up the first one on the cheap to see if you like it rather than dropping £40 on the new one and not liking it. 

I've retired my Xbox 360 so I think I'll just give the first Dark Souls a miss.

No idea, I've not played CoD for a few years now as the games were getting worse and winning was becoming too much to do with the quality of your connection. 

 

I've read mixed things about Ghosts but it's just another CoD from what I've heard, like with Battlefield 4 it's just an up scaled version of the PS3/360 versions and there isn't anything particularly "next gen" about them, just slightly nicer graphics. 

 

inFamous 1 and 2 were both really enjoyable on PS3 and the game play footage I've seen of the new one is pretty impressive too:

World at War and Modern Warfare 2 were they two games I clocked up serious hours on... Each release now just feels an extension/re-hash of the last and the online maps just feel like you've played them before... CoD is too centred on stats as well, it's all about your KD ratio rather than actually winning. 

 

I'm generally steering clear of FPS games nowadays. 

 

Infamous looks really good but I can't help feel I've done it all before in Prototype 1 and 2. I'll wait for the reviews and decide then.

I loved the first two inFamous games and the new one being only available on PS4 means it's not just an up-scaled version of a PS3 game or that the devs have worried about it working on the Xbox One as well, they've just been able to focus on making it look and play as well as possible as they can on the PS4.

 

Sony's got a pretty respectable track record with their exclusives so I would be surprised if the game reviews badly personally. 

 

I'm itching for Watch Dogs too, still no word on an official release date yet though! 

Waiting for Destiny. Reckon I'll be getting a PS4 instead of an Xbox this time around. Going to wait until summer though. Lot more games out by then hopefully.

Most FPS games would be a lot better if the the matchmaking system and ranking system were better. Games like COD where you rank up regardless of winning/losing/drawing have ruined FPS' because anyone that plays on a game that had a good matchmaking system now just goes for kills instead of the objective

Lack of games is annoying but they will soon start being released. Infamous looks quality.

I dont get why so many games are first person shooters. They all seem to look the same and they look dated. I much prefer 3rd person.

The people who are quick to put out new games on the new consoles are very clever because there is so little out there that most people will buy any game just to have something new to play.

I usually check it once a day but have been too busy to. I'm excited. Infamous and now Watch_Dogs to look forward to!

I wouldnt get too excited about Watch Dogs just yet, heres a comparison video doing the rounds of the difference between the Show footage and the latest build.

The early reveal stuff made it seem quite unique and interest but I'm starting to get a GTA/Assassin's Creed kind of vibe from it now.

 

I'm just worried the hacking technology side of things is going to be gimmicky rather than integral to the game play. 

The footage we saw in the Watch Dogs trailer was for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

 

The next gen versions will be graphically sweeter (hoping!).

Same here, gutted it looks so bad compared to the reveal. Also looks like the hacking and things is just a case of pressing A rather than any kind of mini game or skill. Takes away a lot from the game play for me and worries me as to what else has been dropped/downgraded. I was so looking forward to this too.

Oh dear. I can see a 6/10 rating for this one at the most. But they've had an extra 6 months to develop/polish the game, what have they been doing?

Graphics are a bonus, if you remember, graphically the old Grand Theft Auto games on the PS2/Xbox weren't even that great for the time, yet the games were brilliant.

Today I finally caved and bought an Xbox one. Got Forza, Watchdogs and Titanfall with it.

I've been a bit of a 'casual gamer' for years but with my evenings sometimes being a bit boring I'm hoping that this gives me something to do!!!

Bugger! Just got home to find that apparently you cannot stand the Xbox on it's side. It ruins the disc drive apparently. That's an issue for me as I do not have a lot of space.

The only place I can stand this this horizontally is on top of my subwoofer, which also causes a problem with the whole vibrations and magnetism thing.

So, I have two options. Stand the thing on the it's side and risk ruining the disc drive or sit the thing on my sub and risk ruining the whole unit.
