Support the team, NOT Benitez

Featured Replies

Everyone has different views/opinions on how to support our club; My personal stance on the matter is I will get behind the team 100% but will not give my support to Rafa. If i feel like showing my discontent to him during the 90 minutes of a game of football, I will. I'm sick of seeing people write on different threads telling us that we shouldn't criticize Benitez whilst the players are out on the field. If you don't agree with it, just don't participate in that particular chant or try and start another chant. Against Fulham on Wednesday or at West Ham on Saturday, if people are singing anti-rafa songs let them get on with it. It doesn't mean they are not supporting the team in the slightest. WE DONT CARE ABOUT RAFA, HE DON'T CARE ABOUT US, ALL WE CARE ABOUT, IS CHELSEA FC.

I disagree. Singing anti-rafa songs will not help the club. It may affect the players and demotivate them.

Think about it. Players like Oscar who are new to the club and very young may find it difficult to cope with. They're new to the club and a new manager has just come in. He's constantly booed by your own fans, you'd find it hard to motivate yourself to play for him. Plus, he may only be here til the end of the season, which gives it more of a reason.

I'm not saying support Rafa, just leave the anti-Rafa chants out of it and cheer the team.

I agree I have no time for rafa but the team has my full support

Lets move on, people will forget Poyet moving to Spuds if he becomes our next manager and that is a whole lot worse than this geezer's antics when Liverpool boss to unsettle the better team

That's patently ridiculous. The players have a multitude of reasons to be motivated, both intrinsic and extrinsic. They're playing for each other, for the supporters, for their paychecks, etc. Booing Rafa isn't going to demotivate anybody.

Slagging off fans is just ridiculous. They care about this club. They didn't create this stink. If anyone deserves slagging off it's the people that did.

Edit: Maybe the fans who are making their point are trying to ensure it never happens again. Maybe they're sick and tired of it. Maybe they've had enough. If you don't like it don't join in but they don't deserve to be slagged off. They are doing what they think is right for the club. Roman thinks he's done what's right, now let the fans do the same. The OP is right IMO.

Double edit: I'm proud of those fans who won't let this lie without a fuss, far more than those that will.

Triple edit: What makes me laugh is that people complain that we lack passion, that it's become too gentrified, and suddenly, when the fans show they will stand up against this sort of nonsense, when they make a stand in defence of their club, they get slagged off by other people on these boards. Sorry not having it.

Booing Benitez is the only way to boo Abramovich, which is what I really want to see happen.

Lets move on, people will forget Poyet moving to Spuds if he becomes our next manager and that is a whole lot worse than this geezer's antics when Liverpool boss to unsettle the better team

I agree ......The point was made today and the sooner he is shown the door in the summer the better .

Get behind the team !!

Good chants for AC3 today .........

your right but i believe every fan has passion but they show it in different ways. sometimes that different way don't sit easy and all you can do is put your views and hope they understand and vice versa.

Sorry, I find all of this to be utterly ridiculous. Booing anyone is not going to solve the sad state of affairs the clubs front office is in. Benitez said some comments years ago while coaching a fierce rival, get over it! He managed another club at the time and was in full support of it when he made those comments. Were they offensive? Sure but it was the heat of the battle. Forgive and forget, you'll live longer.

I am not pro Rafa either but he's here and that's that. He is here to give his all to more than likely lock down a position elsewhere come this summer. I am sure he isn't happy about being booed and frankly supporters shouldn't be either. He's here to win games and trophies for Chelsea now, let the history die. Personally, I couldn't think of any better way to stick it to the Scousers than to have Rafa lead Chelsea to some trophies this season and who knows what happens after that?

It was embarrassing to see banners and people in the corners with those ridiculoslus signs today. Shows zero class and frankly its one step away from the class RA showed in giving RDM the sack...

I am sure I will be hated for posting but... I cheer Chelsea and who they have out there regardless of who it is.

Everyone boasts about how no man is bigger than the club and now its time to demonstrate that. Its about Chelsea, not fecking Rafa or Roman or anyone else...

Nice post.

I have absolutely hated the past week. Robbie is a hero of the club and delivered for us what no one else could with arguably the weakest side of the Abramovich years. The hiring of Benitez of all people to replace him was a disgrace.

However, Star said it right in another thread, Di Matteo hasn't all of a sudden become bigger than the club. We will go on, just the same as we did when Gullit, Jose and Carlo were sacked. We were outraged at Avram replacing Jose, but we didn't give up on the club. Nor should we now.

Roman bought us out when we were up a creek without a paddle and has injected 1 billion of his own money into the team. I think the ledger is still well in his favour as far as us as fans go.

I think why so many Chelsea fans feel so aggrieved this time around is the double whammy. The club not only did the dirty on a nice guy who was much loved and who only six months ago helped to win us the CL but they replaced him with a bloke who is despised. That’s why it is worse than all the times before and just leaves a really bad taste.

I actually feel a tad sorry for Benitez and the situation he has come into but seeing him there yesterday – it just wasn’t right. It was a horrible game to watch with a very strange atmosphere and I just got the feeling that the players all played well below their best (bar a couple). And it’s no wonder as they must feel responsible for letting RDM down and now they are playing for a coach who they know the fans despise with a passion. Some may argue that these are highly paid professionals and things like this shouldn’t affect them but at the end of the day, they are still individuals with feelings and if they aren’t able to snap out of it, I really do fear for our season.

Just maybe a trophy-less season and missing out on CL will make Abramovich and co have a good look at themselves and hopefully avoid a disastrous turn of events like this repeating itself.

I bet all those people booing and protesting yesterday were the same fans who were singing and getting behind the team a few minutes later.

Fair play to them !

The booers remind me of those ManU wallys in their Norwich City Scarves. Having said that its their perogative to boo if they like.

I won't be booing on Wednesday though I'm not particularly happy about Benitez, but I'm glad we got a clean sheet against City and if he can sort out our defence I'll accept him until we get someone else in...(I don't really have a choice other than to accept him)

This doesn't hurt nearly as much as Jose getting replaced by Avram Grant.

Remember what happened to ManU when the fans turned on the Coolmore stud (over Fergies greed ) they got the Glazers. I've been happy to take the silverware Abramovich has brought to the club, but I do accept this comes at a price...

I wouldn't put trophies ahead of peoples lives if they sat shining on my mantlepiece, I loved this Club when they (as Benitezs favourite fans will remind us) had no history and I'll love it just as much if it doesn't win another trophy.

I won't support every decision made by an owner thats so distant from the Fans he might as well do all his interviews in Russian...interviews? explain his actions to the Fans? yeah that'd be a good idea.

I quite agree I will always support Chelsea whether we are in the 3rd division and trophyless or whether we are title winners with the fat spanish waiter in charge...He is a short term appointment (if the owners whims are anything to go by)

And as such I don't intend to spend the rest of the season stressing out over him, if you want to thats your perogative, fill your boots.

I'm not just stressing over him being here, I'm stressing over losing a legend who had the Club in his heart and having him replaced with a Liverpool legend who if he has any loyalties at all are likely still at Liverpool.

I'm stressing that there seems no end to the idiotic and badly thought out decisions that are taken at this Club, just when you think you have the makigs of a settled succesful team, a squad with some exciting players and an exciting young manager to bring them through it all gets spoilt by having to watch a smarmy twat take control because of the impatient petulant behaviour of a man we should all be eternally grateful to.

f**k em both, I'll fill my Boots.

I think practically every Chelsea fan thinks the best thing that could happen next season is Jose's return. In the current circumstances it would be a godsend. Unlikely, but a godsend. I can't think of any other top manager that would want to come. It's possible of course that Jose can't be tempted but if anyone might, Jose might. He'd have to win the CL at Madrid first and Roman would have to eat a bit of humble pie, but let's assume it's possible, let's assume Jose is considering it. He's always said he wants to return to England so why not? What might he be thinking .. ?

I have a direct line into Jose's mind and I know exactly what he is thinking ..

"Every time those beautiful Chelsea fans boo Benitez a little bit of me loves them more. I can't wait to go back to those beautiful people. I'm glad they remember. Boo him peeps."

That's what's going on in Jose's mind. I have incredible powers you see and I'm glad to share this information with you.

There are some on these boards whose views I respect, such as Zola, who don't like the booing. Fair enough. We'll have to agree to differ. I like the booing very much. I think it's right, and so does Jose.

There is nothing more beautiful than the prospect of seeing the special one coming back to the Bridge.

Whether it happens or not is another thing.

We would have our Chelsea back.

What was encouraging yesterday was the professional attitude of the players. While I understand the hurt at Di Matteo's exit and there was a bit of class in the round of applause on the 16th minute, we have to see the bigger picture. I've seen enough of Chelsea at their lowest to last a few lifetimes and am in no rush to see it again. Look what happened to Leeds.

If you support the team then you've got to support Benitez as well (and I do) - think about it.

Reports in Spain have him on a shakey peg.

They are saying they doubt he will be there for the seasons end which would make it ever stranger that we hired RB instead of just a assistant or coach till it happens.

If Pep was going to come to Chelsea it would have happened last week imo, he obviously doesnt like the way the club is run so it's a wasted venture...Jose has been here and done it while his relationship with Roman has improved as the stories go.

It's Jose or nothing.

It would be a dream come true.

I think Pep is waiting to see where we finish up. Right now we are looking shakey and could be going out of the CL. Pep will want another easy job so it wont make his time at Barca look like a fluke. I think the Chelsea job may be too much of a challenge for him. Not for our man Jose tho! Come home Jose!
